Chapter 357: Testing
Chapter 357: Testing
"Professor Hup, I advise you to mind your own business", Moody said calmly. "He needs a lesson. Ambushing someone from behind is the dirtiest and most despicable behavior..."
"Fair point", Felix nodded slightly. "However, Hogwarts no longer punishes students this way. I suggest we send him to Professor Snape for detention."
"Snape?" Moody's face twisted with disdain. "Yes, Snape... I bet he doesn't want to see me... but I'm looking forward to a good chat with him. What a great idea!"
He pointed his wand at the ferret, and Felix stepped forward. "Oh, I think I should handle this—"
Bang!
A searing spell collided with the golden magic barrier, splashing golden and red sparks. Moody's wand glowed brightly, the red light casting a harsh glow on the twitching half of his face.
"Professor Moody", Felix said softly, "you used a Stunning Spell."
"Let's see what you're made of, boy!" Moody roared, the spell forming a beam of light. "Dumbledore speaks highly of you, but people like us believe in seeing is believing."
"This is quite unusual", Felix frowned, the power of his Shield Charm increasing. He had a decent opinion of Moody; having a decent person at the school was better than having a mysterious fraud or a Dark Wizard. And Moody was a supporter and friend of Dumbledore.
But—
Moody was truly mad. Severus had warned him to stay out of trouble, but trouble still found him.
The students took a few steps back, but more gathered around, their faces filled with shock. Last year, Snape and Lupin had trashed their office, but no one else knew about it. This time, it was different—two professors were openly fighting!
"Quick, get someone! Dumbledore, Professor Mcgonagall, Professor Flitwick, Snape—anyone!" Hermione shouted in panic.
Students who saw the situation turning bad had already run to get help. A Slytherin prefect dashed down the hall toward the dungeons. "I'll go find Professor Snape!" he called out hurriedly.
"You can't do this, boy!" Moody seemed to have regained his composure and even had the nerve to address the crowd. "Move back, this is a rare opportunity to see how a true wizard fights—"
"Sorry, Professor Moody. I'm not as... indifferent to the consequences as you are", Felix said.
He actually wanted to use the word "mad", but it wasn't the time to provoke Moody further. Who knew if the fight might turn serious? Felix wasn't about to lose on purpose.
The young wizards watching noticed that Professor Hup's spell colors were becoming increasingly dark and ominous. It didn't look like a Shield Charm; it resembled a rusted piece of Scabbers' iron, or perhaps a battered old shield that had been buried for years but still bore the marks of countless battles.
Its color was a blend of dark red and iron gray, with a twisted shape and a coppery sheen at the edges.
"What kind of magic is this!" the young wizards gasped, their eyes wide with shock. Professor Hup's magic looked a bit evil... but it was also incredibly powerful.
They thought only the arrival of other professors could stop this sudden conflict, but the situation changed quickly. Felix didn't want to keep this stalemate going. A single spell collision could be called a test, but if they started hurling curses back and forth, what would that look like?
He twirled his wand, and the dark red and iron-gray Shield Charm began to soften, like blood, flowing over its surface. A small spike protruded from the shield, like the branches of a Slytherin, wrapping around Moody's powerful Stunning Spell.
Moody's good eye widened, and his magical eye spun wildly. What was this? He felt a sense of unease and tried to cut off the spell, but the connection was no longer something he could sever alone.
Felix silently invaded his magic, and the two wands were now forcibly linked together.
The laser-like beam of light began to be tainted with shades of iron gray and dark red. Scabbers twitched, like a child smearing paint on a beautiful railing, leaving random marks.
These handprints were getting closer and closer to Moody.
All of this happened in a brief moment. The students could still hear the disordered footsteps of the prefect running towards the basement, but anyone could see that it might not be necessary for him to call for help.
Even Niffler Valen, who was covering his eyes, was brazenly watching Moody on the other side, snorting and baring his teeth.
"Professor Moody, I just want to end this pointless dispute."
"What kind of joke are you making!" Moody gritted his teeth. "Let go!"
"Sure, no problem..." Felix responded calmly, but he didn't release his grip; instead, he sped up the invasion.
Moody's face grew increasingly pale, and the side of his face twitched more violently. The magical eye in his eye socket spun wildly like an owl trapped in a cage, but soon, a barely noticeable smile appeared on his face. Someone was coming—
"Felix! Professor Moody! What are you doing..." Mcgonagall's surprised voice rang out. The books she was carrying scattered on the ground as she hurried over, drew her wand, but didn't know what to do, fidgeting helplessly.
"Let go, Professor Hup, I admit your prowess", Moody said calmly, all traces of madness gone from his eyes.
Felix shrugged. With Professor Mcgonagall there, the fight should be over. He manipulated his wand, and the intense magical aura subsided. Moody withdrew his wand and took a few steps back.
Everyone stared dumbfounded at the lingering beam of light in the air. Without the magic of both parties, the beam rusted and turned to ash, flaking off bit by bit, creating a haunting and awe-inspiring beauty.
Mcgonagall's gaze fixed on the residual magical traces in the air, and she remained silent for a moment. She looked at the two professors and said irritably, "Can someone explain what exactly is going on? Professors fighting in broad daylight—Hogwarts has never seen such absurdity!"
Neither of them spoke first. Moody hadn't thought of an excuse, and Felix couldn't exactly say that the new professor, being a seasoned Auror, resorted to violence at the slightest provocation.
Mcgonagall's eyes grew more dangerous, her lips pressed into a thin line, and her chest swelled like an angry balloon.
Harry felt it was his responsibility to explain the situation, as it had started with the argument between him, Ron, and Malfoy. However, he suddenly noticed the Niffler on Professor Hup's shoulder reach out a small hand and point at the ferret below.
Mcgonagall also noticed the Niffler's gesture. She had reservations about Felix keeping a Niffler, but since there had been no reports of missing items in the castle, she decided to wait and see.
Her gaze fell on the ferret, puzzled. The little creature was quite cute, all white, but it seemed quite timid, its front paws gripping Felix's trouser leg tightly, and it hadn't run away during the intense magical confrontation.
If Niffler Valen was Felix's pet and had a close relationship with him, what was the situation with this ferret?
Harry awkwardly reminded her, "It's Malfoy."
"What?"
"The ferret, he's Draco Malfoy", Harry repeated.
"Oh, my goodness!" Mcgonagall exclaimed, looking at the ferret. Felix waved his wand, and with a loud crack, Draco Malfoy returned to his human form.
He said apologetically, "I forgot about you."
