Chapter 357: Guests Arrive
Chapter 357: Guests Arrive
"Ah, finally back." Hermione let out a satisfied sigh as she stepped into the living room of Ryan's Home, as if a heavy psychological burden had been lifted.
"I feel like I've been drenched in blood for the past two months. Even after cleaning up so many times, I can still smell the blood on me. Let me go home and take a shower first, and I'll come back later." Hermione said her goodbyes to Liam and left.
After Hermione left, Liam glanced at the 15 Deviation Points they had earned and grimaced. It was indeed a low-level world; even if they had completely overturned the tables, they could only get this much. Fortunately, they had some additional gains. The world they visited was only about ten years ahead of the one they were in, so they managed to gather a lot of useful information.
For example, the general economic development trends of that world and certain technologies that could give them an edge. Hermione, for instance, collected information and knowledge about dental and dental medical equipment that hadn't been put into use yet.
Of course, these were just peripheral gains. The most significant achievement was that Hermione had truly transformed from an ordinary person into a warrior over the two months of continuous combat, preparing herself sufficiently for the impending full-scale war.
At the beginning, Hermione used long-range Magic attacks, but later, she retaliated by slitting the throat of an elderly woman who had tortured and bathed in the blood of over a dozen girls. This gradual adaptation to combat made Liam feel a slight chill, realizing that even the most mild-mannered and honest people could be terrifying when angry.
"Finally, one important task is completed", Liam stretched lazily, "I hope we can have a peaceful week. Living without parents around is precious in many ways."
Unfortunately, things did not go as planned. Just as he was about to go to the World of Ice and Fire to get some snacks, he heard a tapping on the window.
"Galleon?" Liam walked to the window and saw a brownish-yellow Owl pecking at the glass. He recognized it as one of the three Owls the Weasley Twins had bought recently for their business.
Because of their business, the Owls were given names that sounded lucky. The white one was called Sickle, and the pure brown one was named Knut. All of them sounded like names that would bring in money.
After taking the letter from the Owl's foot, Liam discovered it was from the Weasley Twins. The letter said they and their mother would be visiting Liam the next morning to discuss the partnership between the Weasley Twins and Liam in their business, where Liam was the majority shareholder.
It seemed the Weasley Twins felt they could no longer keep their business a secret, so they had decided to come clean to their mother. Thankfully, the situation didn't seem too bad. At least the letter didn't mention anything about asking Liam to withdraw his investment, indicating that Mrs. Weasley, though opposed, wasn't completely against it.
Liam immediately wrote a reply, welcoming their visit, and asked Galleon to deliver the letter back to the Weasley Twins. A few minutes after the letter was sent, Hermione, having finished packing her things, arrived at Ryan's Home with her Backpack.
Even though Liam and Hermione were now as powerful as regular Aurors and had experienced major events like Voldemort's resurrection, they still had to complete their summer vacation homework. Fortunately, they could now skillfully use shadow magic to make the shadows hold pens and write, which was much more efficient than writing by hand.
"Is this considered cheating?" Hermione asked as she watched a mass of shadow, like tentacles, wrap around several quills, scratching away on the parchment. As a good student, she wasn't fond of such shortcuts.
"Of course not. Homework is just to check how much we've learned. Each letter on the parchment is the result of our thoughts. We’re just improving efficiency to free up more time for more important things", Liam replied, his eyes fixed on the quill he was writing with.
They could use magic so openly because neither of them needed a wand to control the shadows. After they tossed their wands into the Multiverse General Store, the detection spells on the wands couldn't sense their magic anymore. Not to mention, Liam had drawn numerous runes on the walls of the house to ensure absolute safety, effectively blocking any magical fluctuations within the room.
"It looks like we can finish this homework in a week", Hermione said as she prepared to go home before bedtime. Earlier, Liam had invited her to come over and study, and even offered to have dinner with him. Initially, Hermione was concerned about causing Liam any inconvenience and planned to politely decline the invitation.
However, after Liam showed her how he retrieved various ingredients from his dimensional gate and introduced her to the household robots that prepared an excellent afternoon tea, Hermione agreed to spend the next few days at Liam’s place. This arrangement would save her a lot of time cooking.
The next morning, Liam woke up early and tidied up. After the robots finished preparing breakfast, he and Hermione enjoyed a hearty meal together. Just as they were settling down in the living room to work on their homework, the doorbell rang. They quickly dispelled the shadows writing their homework and Liam went to open the door.
"Good morning, Mrs. Weasley. Welcome to my home", Liam greeted her warmly. As he spoke, he noticed the Weasley Twins making faces behind Mrs. Weasley.
"Good morning, Liam. I must admit, this visit is a bit abrupt", Mrs. Weasley said as Liam led her to the living room. At that moment, Fred leaned in and whispered, "Liam, we’ve been arguing with Mother all morning, and neither of us could convince her. It’s up to you now."
"I think I can manage", Liam replied confidently. After all, Mrs. Weasley wasn’t a tyrannical parent. If he could present a reasonable argument, she would likely be open to her children’s choices.
"Oh, Hermione? It’s a pleasant surprise to see you here", Mrs. Weasley said, a bit taken aback when she saw Hermione working on her homework. "Good morning, Hermione."
"Good morning, Mrs. Weasley", Hermione replied, quickly tidying up her parchment, quill, and ink bottle before inviting the three guests to sit down. She then picked up the teapot and poured a few cups of tea for everyone.
"Hermione, what are you doing here?" George asked, voicing the question on everyone’s mind.
"My parents and Liam’s parents are going to China on business and might stay there for a few years. So, it’s just the two of us here. It makes sense for us to spend the day together, especially since it’s more convenient to cook for one household rather than two", Hermione explained as she placed a plate of pastries on the table.
"I see", Mrs. Weasley nodded. "You know, the Dark Lord has returned. In this situation, it’s actually a good thing your parents are going abroad. It’s much safer than staying in Britain."
After a few more pleasantries, Mrs. Weasley finally got to the main reason for her visit.
