Chapter 357: Children Can't Have Malicious Thoughts
Chapter 357: Children Can't Have Malicious Thoughts
Feng Xuanrui was also startled, and although he was young and the head of the household, he knew he had to step up and take responsibility.
So, he quickly took charge, first comforting the Ying brothers, then soothing the other crying children, and simultaneously sending for a physician.
The Ying brothers' wounds needed proper attention and dressing.
Feng Xuanrui promptly had them brought to the south court, where they resided. Liu, the physician, carefully examined, cleaned, and bandaged their injuries, finally easing Feng Xuanrui's worries.
Sui'an busied herself attending to everyone, and seeing that her two older brothers had stopped crying, she, too, felt relieved.
Qingzhi, witnessing her brothers' injuries, lost interest and felt rather glum.
Feng Youdan, for once, refrained from causing trouble and quietly pitched in, helping wherever she could.
Knowing that the Ying brothers were going to be fine, Feng Youdan also breathed a sigh of relief.
As the initial panic subsided, Feng Youdan, pouting her chubby cheeks, grumbled, "It's all the fault of those Xu family members!"
Hearing this, Feng Xuanbin nodded in agreement. "Yes, it's their family's fault. Why did they have to bring up the topic of concubines?"
Feng Xuanbin was still young and didn't fully understand the concept of concubines, but he joined in, echoing his brothers' sentiments.
However, his curiosity got the better of him, and he whispered a question to He Dai, "What are concubines?"
He Dai furrowed her adorable eyebrows slightly at the question. "They are wives kept outside the main household."
Feng Xuanbin's eyes widened as he understood, and he nodded.
With the Ying brothers injured, they couldn't continue running around.
Upon learning that the Grand Princess had retired to the back garden to rest, Yingzhi wanted to take her brothers to see her.
But Yingning, who had injured his leg and was in pain, had no desire to move. He lay on Feng Xuanrui's bed, shaking his head. "I don't want to move. My leg hurts."
Sui'an, ever practical, looked around and suggested, "We have small pushcarts!"
There were carts available, big and small, suitable for pushing one or even two children.
Intrigued by the idea of the pushcarts, Yingzhi's eyes lit up. "Where are they? Let me see!"
Feng Xuantan, who had been whispering complaints about Xu Mingxian with Feng Xuanbin, also became excited at the mention of the carts. "Where are the carts?"
Everyone's interest was piqued, and their gazes turned to Sui'an, who suddenly felt a bit overwhelmed by the attention.
Feng Xuanrui stepped forward to shield his sister, speaking loudly, "I've already sent someone to get the carts."
Although the children were young, they each had several servants attending to them.
So, finding someone to push the carts wouldn't be an issue.
Soon enough, Qing Shan brought two small pushcarts.
The children gathered around, chattering excitedly.
They were more fascinated by the carts than anything else, and they momentarily forgot that the initial purpose of the carts was to take Yingning to see the Grand Princess.
Upon seeing the carts, Feng Youdan eagerly climbed into one and gestured for someone to push her. "Let's go for a spin first."
The princess had quite the entourage, including her aunt, maids, and two guards.
Pushing the cart was a simple task that anyone could handle.
Without delay, one of the guards stepped forward.
Feng Youdan, in no hurry to depart, turned to Sui'an and held out her hand. "Sui'an, come join me!"
Sui'an often rode in the small pushcarts and was delighted by Feng Youdan's invitation. She looked at Feng Xuanrui, her tiny hand tugging gently on his sleeve. "Brother, shall we go?"
Sui'an waited for her brother's decision instead of acting on her own.
This pleased Feng Xuanrui, who proudly lifted his head, resembling a victorious rooster.
With a grand gesture, Feng Xuanrui cheerfully said, "Alright, alright, as long as my little sister is happy."
Sui Sui happily joined Feng Youdan in one of the larger pushcarts, leaving the smaller one for the others.
The children gathered around the smaller cart, bickering over who would get to ride first, their voices rising in a chaotic chorus. Despite the commotion, they managed to maintain a semblance of civility, refraining from resorting to physical altercations.
Yingning, half-reclined on the bed, watched the lively discussion unfold with a darkening expression. He had initially suggested the pushcarts as a means to visit their grandmother, but it seemed like everyone had forgotten about that.
"Hey, aren't you all forgetting something?" he called out, his voice tinged with annoyance.
Unfortunately, no one paid him any heed.
Caught up in their excitement, the children quickly forgot about the two brothers lying on the bed.
Although Yingzhi was concerned about her brothers, the allure of the pushcarts proved too tempting, and she soon joined the others, leaving the brothers behind.
Ying brothers: ...
Oh well, it could be worse. At least they hadn't been completely abandoned.
Feng Youdan, the mischievous princess, found the pushcarts fascinating, a novel experience for someone her age.
The guard, blessed with immense strength, effortlessly pushed the cart, carrying the two children with ease.
As the cart rolled along, a devious idea formed in Feng Youdan's mind. She leaned over, intending to whisper her plan to Sui Sui, but paused, realizing the younger girl might not understand.
Instead, she confided in Feng Xuanrui and Yingzhi, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "What do you say we let this cart go out of control and crash into someone? It would be an accident, an unintentional mistake, right?"
Her round eyes twinkled with mischief as she conveyed her meaning with a subtle glance. The other two immediately grasped her intention, a plot brewing in their young minds.
Still seething from the earlier incidents involving Xu Mingxian, Wei Lanqiao, and the others, they sought to teach them a lesson.
Feng Xuanrui, particularly displeased with the baseless accusations made by Ren Zinan and his cohorts, readily agreed, his adorable eyebrows furrowing in determination. "Of course, it would be an unintentional accident. Who would hold a grudge against children?"
Unlike Feng Xuanrui, Feng Youdan didn't hold a long-standing grudge against Xu Mingxian and the others for the previous incident. To her, it was water under the bridge—a squabble resolved and forgotten.
However, she hadn't forgotten the hurtful words of Ren Zinan and his group, and now, she was plotting her revenge.
The three children huddled together, whispering and plotting, their eyes gleaming with excitement. After finalizing their plan, they prepared to set it in motion.
As the princess, Feng Youdan understood the weight of her status. She knew that her actions carried significance, and so, she took the lead, emboldened by her position.
Feng Xuanrui, ever the responsible older brother, initially wanted to join them, but Feng Youdan waved him away. "Stay here and protect our little sister. We'll bring you news of our triumph!"
Feng Youdan was well aware of the power her royal status held. She also recognized that as the head of the household, Feng Xuanrui needed to maintain a certain level of decorum and couldn't afford to act too rashly.
She had given it some thought and concluded that as a princess and a young girl, she had more leeway to act on her whims without being judged too harshly.
And so, she and Yingzhi set off on their mission, leaving Feng Xuanrui behind.
Yingzhi, ever the supportive friend, readily went along with the plan.
The two girls climbed into the pushcart, their eyes sparkling with anticipation. With a nod to the guard, they signaled for him to start pushing, faster this time.
The pushcart, with its wheels, gained momentum as it rolled forward, and the girls had instructed the guard on exactly how to manipulate this momentum to their advantage.
There was no need to push it directly at their target; that would be too obvious. Instead, they intended to utilize the cart's inertia to their advantage, creating a terrifying, yet unintentional, collision.
