Chapter 355: Yu Xuan's Unique Insights
Chapter 355: Yu Xuan's Unique Insights
"Are you Yu Xuan, isn't it?"
The man in glasses, donning a white jacket, approached directly and extended his hand.
Yu Xuan shook his hand and replied, "Mr. Francaix?"
"That's me,"
The man greeted him politely, nodding and adjusting his glasses.
"I am the lead designer, Francaix, from the International Fantasy Society's research team on the 'Winged Divine Dragon of Ra' project within the Study of the Cards of the Gods."
Yu Xuan sized up the man, feeling that he didn't quite match the mental image he had formed.
In the anime, Francaix first appeared with an air of arrogance, even dismissing their CEO, Bekkas. From the start, he boldly challenged Bekkas, saying, "Only if you can beat me will I listen," leaving Yu Xuan with the impression of a pompous and conceited individual.
And it wasn't a confidence born of self-assurance in one's abilities, like Kaiba, but rather a misplaced sense of self-worth akin to Weevil, the type who thinks they can do no wrong. He perfectly fit the stereotype of a one-off villain in a side story.
However, the man standing before him now seemed rather well-mannered and polite, which surprised Yu Xuan.
Perhaps, as the first person since Pharaoh to wield the power of the Egyptian Gods in the anime, the power had gone to his head, causing him to act out. It was only human.
Despite being a minor character in a side story and not much of a duelist, one had to admit that Francaix was gifted.
Although his methods were questionable, the man had independently developed the field spell card "Binding God's Tomb," which successfully restrained the Winged Dragon of Ra and allowed him to harness the power of the Egyptian Gods in his duels.
Regardless of whether his approach was right or wrong, he had undeniably solved a long-standing problem that had plagued even Mr. Mau and the Tomb Keepers in the past. With his mortal body and using only replica cards, he had summoned an Egyptian God, breaking two taboos, and yet, in the end, he had faced no repercussions—a feat that spoke volumes about his background.
"Yu Xuan, you've made quite a name for yourself in academia lately. I've heard about all the achievements your lab has made so far. It's impressive."
Francaix pushed up his glasses as he smiled.
"I can hardly imagine how far you'll go in the future, Yu Xuan."
"You flatter me," Yu Xuan smiled in response. "It's just a stroke of luck that I have a bit more inspiration than others."
"Hahaha, that's not being humble, Yu Xuan," Francaix said meaningfully. "Only those who have truly entered this field and dedicated themselves to this work understand that your 'bit of inspiration' is something others could never achieve no matter how hard they try."
Yu Xuan smiled but didn't deny it.
Indeed, he had come to realize deeply that finding the right direction in research could make a significant difference. When you know the supporting cards and evolutionary forms related to a particular card, having a clear goal in mind already puts you one big step closer to your objective.
"But I am surprised that you reached out to our team, Yu Xuan. The study of the Egyptian Gods is taboo. Our CEO even considered shutting down the project—he believes it shouldn't exist at all."
"Mr. Bekkas, huh?" Yu Xuan remarked. "But wasn't he the one who brought the three Egyptian Gods into the present world?"
"Yes, but he often regrets it afterward. He says it's a power that shouldn't be in human hands, that it should never have been created in the first place, and now that it's buried, it should stay that way, and so on."
Francaix shook his head as he spoke.
It was clear that while this person might not be as extreme as his anime counterpart, he and Bekkas probably never saw eye to eye.
"Of course. But Mr. Bekkas also has a point. It is a fact that everyone who has attempted to replicate the power of the Egyptian Gods thus far has suffered varying degrees of injury."
"I don't deny that there are risks involved," Francaix nodded. "But if we are to challenge the pinnacle of dueling, dangers are inevitable. How can we, as designers seeking the ultimate power, cower in fear? In fact, I already have an idea."
At this point, he frowned, a hint of displeasure in his voice.
"With this method, I'm at least eighty percent, no, ninety percent confident it will work. Even an ordinary duelist could briefly wield the power of the Egyptian Gods.
But the CEO rejected my idea."
Yu Xuan knew exactly what he was referring to.
The field spell card, "Binding God's Tomb," was a shackle to restrain the gods, suppressing their power to avoid divine punishment.
While it seemed effective in the anime, the risks were also apparent. After all, while the field could protect you during a duel, you couldn't stay hidden within it forever.
Winged Dragon of Ra: I'll be watching you, brat. Don't sleep too soundly tonight.
"Using cards that can counter the power of the gods to impose restrictions and avoid risks, that's one approach," Yu Xuan said. "But doing so still carries a certain level of risk. Secondly, the power of the Egyptian Gods would also be suppressed, and if the spirit and duelist are not in harmony, it could lead to complications."
"I understand," Francaix acknowledged. "But this is currently the only method we have found. Aside from this, no one has proposed any other viable solutions."
He paused, his eyes lighting up with excitement as he turned to Yu Xuan.
"Wait, could it be that you, Yu Xuan, have some unique insights to share?"
He had heard that Yu Xuan had provided guidance to many other departments, helping them break through bottlenecks and achieve astonishing breakthroughs.
Perhaps this young man's sudden interest in their team wasn't mere coincidence.
"Haha, I can't claim to have unique insights, but I do suddenly feel inspired," Yu Xuan smiled. "What if, instead of trying to tame the overwhelmingly powerful Egyptian God cards, we design related cards that borrow a fraction of their divine power without attempting to replicate the entire card?"
"Hmm?"
Francaix was taken aback.
As the world's leading expert in the field of Egyptian God cards, he had never heard such a perspective before.
"All the current research has been focused on replicating the Egyptian God cards and mastering their power. But after all these years, progress has been minimal, suggesting that this path may be a dead end.
So, why not change our approach?"
Francaix pondered this new idea: "You mean to fragment the power of the gods, distributing it across different derivative cards, and thereby gaining access to a portion of their power?"
"Something like that. Additionally, as an expert, you're surely aware that the 'Winged Dragon of Ra' has several different forms, right?
So, if we can't summon the complete Egyptian God, what about summoning just one of its forms?"
This novel and bold suggestion opened a whole new door for Francaix, and he fell into deep thought.
Having provided the spark of inspiration, Yu Xuan stepped aside and watched with a smile as Francaix contemplated.
Yes, that was exactly what he wanted—the egg of the Winged Dragon of Ra.
Imagine devouring three opposing monsters in one go—what a delicious treat that would be!
