Chapter 355: Toy War (Part One)
[Feng Bu Jue, Level 29]
[Xiao Tan Zhi, Level 30]
[Your squad is joining Kill Game Mode 2v2.]
[Your team has selected opponents. Waiting for confirmation...]
[Confirmed. Scenario generation in progress...]
[Loading started. Please wait.]
Feng Bu Jue immediately felt weightless as his vision plunged into darkness.
Then, a child's piercing scream echoed in his ears: "Let your enemies tremble! Make them experience true horror! Ah——"
[Loading completed. You are now entering Kill Game Mode.]
[This mode provides a scenario overview and offers chances for side quests/hidden tasks and special world views.]
[Scenario victory reward: Puzzle Piece Card x2]
[Scenario overview will now play. The game will start immediately afterward.]
The opening CG began playing.
The screen revealed a massive building sprawling across vast land.
[By the early 22nd century, Jinyou Corporation had become Earth's largest global enterprise.]
[As everyone knows, "Jinyou" started in retail and became industry leader within five years.]
[Today, Jinyou supermarkets sell "everything." Whether clothing, fabrics, medicines, toys, household items, home appliances, jewelry, cosmetics, car parts, or small yachts—you'll find them all here. Even if you brought a ten-year-old discontinued electronic device, you could still find parts or repairs.]
As the narration reached this point, the camera rapidly zoomed from aerial view to the building's side. The exterior walls displayed five-pointed star logos with the words "Jinyou" beside them.
[This is Jinyou's largest mall worldwide.]
[Night falls. Business hours have long passed. Settlement and cleaning are complete.]
[With everyone gone, this vast structure has lost its hustle and bustle, leaving only silence and darkness.]
[But...whenever midnight bells ring...]
The CG and voice abruptly halted. A system prompt activated:
[Main Quest Triggered]
[Kill all enemy squad members]
[Side Quest Task Triggered]
[Join the Classic Faction to end the war]
"Hmm...they gave us a side quest right away..." Feng Bu Jue muttered, reading the two tasks appearing in his game menu.
Before he could ponder further, the scenario began in earnest.
Though his vision remained pitch-black, he clearly felt bodily weight and mobility returning.
Feng Bu Jue swiftly retrieved a flashlight from his satchel, first covering its light end with his hand before switching it on.
Considering Bei Ling's sniping ability, reaction speed, and analytical skills, Feng Bu Jue exercised extreme caution—even in this simplest action.
Without knowing the surroundings, that flashlight beam could easily prove lethal. Exposing his position might not kill him instantly, but it'd leave him at a severe disadvantage.
Thus, Feng Bu Jue chose to shield the flashlight while activating it, using the tiny light seeping through his palm gaps to assess his immediate vicinity.
However, a second later, a bright light source suddenly appeared beside Feng Bu Jue.
"Hey? Why are you covering your flashlight, Feng Bu Jue?" Xiao Tan asked, wearing a [Miner's Helmet], his face brimming with innocent curiosity.
"Heh...I'm just being a masochist", Feng Bu Jue replied with a cynical half-smile, then removed his hand to let the flashlight's beam shine freely.
After sweeping the area, Feng Bu Jue found himself and Xiao Tan standing inside a featureless rectangular room.
This empty space had no doors or windows. All six surfaces—front/back, left/right, top/bottom—were constructed from identical materials. Touching the walls felt like thick cardboard, though their texture was unusually coarse and unnaturally dense. Feng Bu Jue paced out the room's dimensions: approximately 8 meters long, 5 meters wide, and 3 meters high.
"By the way, Feng Bu Jue, when you mentioned Xiao Ling treating me specially earlier...what exactly did you mean?" Xiao Tan asked.
Since they were alone, Feng Bu Jue felt no need for restraint. He replied, "You really don't get it? That 'training match' she proposed was entirely for your benefit."
"For me?" Xiao Tan echoed.
"Duh, she isn't competing herself", Feng Bu Jue said. "Si Yu isn't participating either. As for me...though I wouldn't call myself battle-hardened, I've certainly accumulated considerable Kill Game Mode experience. You all know this. So for me to play such practice matches holds little value."
"Huh...I guess I haven't played enough Kill Game Modes", Xiao Tan nodded, rubbing his chin. "So it's basically you three acting as my sparring partners?"
"Not exactly", Feng Bu Jue countered. "For pure sparring, we could've chosen Free-for-All where all three of us take turns crushing you."
"Wait...there's an option like that?!" Xiao Tan exclaimed.
"But such practice wouldn't be effective", Feng Bu Jue explained. "Because once we three get serious, you'd stand no chance against any of us individually."
Xiao Tan couldn't deny this. In the few Kill Game Mode matches he'd played, he once challenged Bei Ling 1v1 for fun—only to get effortlessly defeated.
"When skill gaps are too large, the loser learns little. Worse, they might lose confidence or develop psychological trauma", Feng Bu Jue continued. "That's why having you partner with me for a relatively balanced match against them benefits you more." He elaborated, "Also, Bei Ling probably didn't expect that in just a few days, I've risen to second place on the Combat Power Leaderboard. This is good news—originally, Si Yu would've partnered with you under the balanced pairing rules, but obviously working with me is more efficient."
"That's true. Rain Sister rarely speaks, always silently clearing obstacles in her path..." Xiao Tan added.
As they conversed, they thoroughly examined the entire room but found no clues or plot triggers.
"Well..." Feng Bu Jue removed his gloves for another detailed wall inspection, finding nothing. He finally said, "Two possibilities exist. First...the system expects us to destroy the walls to escape."
Xiao Tan asked, "What's the second?"
"The second involves waiting for an event triggered by time's passage", Feng Bu Jue answered.
Coincidentally, as his words hung in the air, the second scenario occurred.
Suddenly, one ceiling side began rising. Several seconds later, the entire ceiling tilted about fifteen degrees, allowing a white light beam to pour through the elevated edge.
Feng Bu Jue and Xiao Tan Zhi looked up simultaneously. From the opened crevice above, two figures gradually emerged.
Their appearances? One was Ultraman, the other Optimus Prime...
