Chapter 355: Red Forest Town
Chapter 355: Red Forest Town
After dealing with the thugs, Pidan turned back to the car.
The anti-gravity system of the hover car kicked in, and it moved forward toward the town ahead.
In the car, Pidan looked up at Su Yu with a pleading expression. "Master, how did I do?"
"Passable," Su Yu replied casually.
Pidan scratched his head and continued, "Master, why did you want the leader of Mercury to meet us?"
"Don't ask so many questions. You'll understand in time," Su Yu said, dismissing the query and turning to look out the window.
The hover car had now entered Red Forest Town.
Red Forest Town, a remote town on the fringes of the Solar Empire, was a dilapidated place. The quality of the houses lining the streets and the overall cleanliness were even worse than in most towns on Earth.
The Solar Empire, a stronghold of the right-wing, had a core value system rooted in selfishness and survival of the fittest, often referred to as "social Darwinism."
In the capital of the Solar Empire, Sun City, one could see towering pyramidal structures over 3,000 meters high, piercing the clouds, and single-person power mechs made of depleted uranium and tungsten steel racing through the streets.
However, in Red Forest Town, apart from the hover cars and some electronic devices being slightly more advanced, everything else was inferior to Earth. Even cell phone signals were spotty in more remote areas, highlighting the stark unevenness in regional development.
With a small population that couldn't provide sufficient profit for capital, Red Forest Town had gradually deteriorated into its current state.
Despite this, Su Yu found the atmosphere of Red Forest Town more to his liking. As a newcomer, the lack of surveillance cameras in the town made it easier for him to adapt to this new world.
Entering the town, Su Yu looked at the signs of the shops lining the streets and asked Pidan, "Pidan, where can I buy a phone around here?"
The Skrulls also had a type of electronic communication device similar to Earth's phones, so Su Yu simply referred to it as a "phone."
Pidan immediately replied, "Master, there's a phone shop at the corner of the next street. It's the largest phone shop in town."
"Alright," Su Yu nodded. "Go to the store and buy two phones. Remember, get the best ones!"
Su Yu gave Pidan an encouraging pat on the shoulder.
"Got it!" Pidan responded enthusiastically, buoyed by his master's encouragement.
...
The hover car stopped in front of the phone shop, and Pidan got out to buy the phones.
About ten minutes later, Pidan returned with two of the latest models, closing the car door behind him.
Morning Star, who had been obsessed with phones back on Earth, couldn't contain her excitement at the sight of the new devices. She leaped out of the pet space, used her Stealth ability to become invisible, and snatched one of the phones.
Seeing Morning Star's enthusiasm, Su Yu quickly reminded her, "Morning Star, don't get too carried away. Be careful when using the phone. Don't post anything online or search for sensitive information, or the Skrulls might find us."
"Don't worry!" Morning Star waved her paw and used her star magic to decipher the Skrull text.
Though Morning Star was still a kitten, she knew her limits. Su Yu watched her for a moment, satisfied that she wasn't doing anything out of line, and then opened the other phone.
Su Yu could speak the Skrull official language fluently but could only recognize a handful of basic characters, making him a functional illiterate. Fortunately, he had Pidan to help with translations.
After turning on his phone, Su Yu opened the map application and downloaded the "Offline Map Pack (Global Version)." This way, once he returned to Earth, he could provide a complete map of Skrul to humanity.
Next, Su Yu searched online for common pets on Skrul and eventually chose a yellow, furry creature that resembled a Pikachu.
Su Yu placed the Pikachu's picture in front of Chenxing. "Chenxing, once you transform into a pet, you can move around outside. Look up the habits of this pet online so you don't give us away."
Chenxing glanced at the Pikachu and was momentarily taken aback.
However, she agreed to Su Yu's suggestion.
Chenxing searched through a bunch of videos about Pikachu online, carefully observing them before transforming into a yellow, furry creature.
Seeing Chenxing's cute appearance after the transformation, Su Yu reached out to touch her, curious about how she felt.
But Chenxing quickly hopped away, turning back with a look of disgust. "Don't touch me, your green skin is too gross! You can only touch me if you return to your original form!"
Su Yu: "..."
It seemed he had been rejected.
But he knew that the Skrul people didn't have the best appearance, so he awkwardly rubbed his nose.
The hover car was still driving through the town's streets when Pidan turned to Su Yu. "Master, where are we heading next?"
Su Yu thought for a moment and replied, "We're going to your place to wait for Mercury."
Su Yu's original plan was to visit the town's electronics market and buy some advanced gadgets that were beyond Earth's technology level.
Although the government had already seized a lot of high-tech equipment from the Lingwu Mountain base, having more would always be beneficial. These items had significant research value and could even be shared with other countries for study.
However, considering that Pidan didn't have much money and his gold was difficult to convert into cash, Su Yu decided to get some money first. He planned to buy better gadgets once they reached a larger city.
Pidan obediently followed Su Yu's orders, adjusting the hover car's destination to head toward his home.
More than an hour later, a black-clad, sunglasses-wearing gang leader named Mercury arrived at 283 Spine Street, troubled. He was there to meet Pidan, who was rumored to have had a "stroke of luck."
Mercury didn't know much about Pidan, but to show his sincerity, he came alone, only carrying a concealed handgun.
Ding-dong~
He rang the doorbell.
A few seconds later, the door opened, and Pidan greeted him with a smile. "Boss Mercury, please come in!"
Seeing Pidan's smiling face, Mercury's guard slightly relaxed.
As he walked inside, he cautiously greeted Pidan. "Hello, Pidan! Where's your brother, Luna?"
Pidan smiled and shook his head. "I don't have a brother anymore, only a master."
He pointed toward the back of the house.
"Master?" Mercury was taken aback.
"Yes, our common master," Pidan replied warmly.
Mercury's face stiffened, sensing something was amiss.
Before he could react, a walnut-sized, dark purple light orb flew out from the back of the house and quickly enveloped his head.
In an instant, Mercury's thoughts were firmly controlled.
He knelt down toward the back of the house, devoutly shouting, "Master."
