Chapter 355: Anti-Hulk Armor (6000+)
Chapter 355: Anti-Hulk Armor (6000+)
Walking over to the Ancient One's private bookshelf, Jerry casually picked up a book and his pupils instantly constricted.
The book was titled "Book of Cagliostro." After a quick glance at the introduction, he realized it was a specialized text on Time Magic, and it even included methods for drawing energy from the Dark Dimension.
"No wonder the Ancient One thought these books wouldn't be dangerous for me to read!"
Time Magic can cause time branches to form in the world, and if a regular mage were to learn it, it could indeed be quite dangerous. Jerry, however, already knew some Time Magic and possessed a Time-Turner.
As for drawing energy from the Dark Dimension and attracting Dormammu's attention, that was even less of a concern. Jerry used the magic power within his own body and never drew energy from the Dark Dimension.
Putting down the "Book of Cagliostro", Jerry scanned the other books on the shelf. There was "Astral Projection", a book on soul separation, and "Kafka Runes", a powerful forgetting magic that could alter the past and future.
After a cursory glance, he found that all the books contained extremely powerful and highly dangerous magic. One wrong move could bring disaster to the world. They were also incredibly profound, and even a brief look made many of the magic concepts difficult to understand.
After pondering for a moment, Jerry selected the book titled "Astral Projection."
Soul Magic has always been one of the most mysterious forms of magic, a subject many mages spend their entire lives studying without fully comprehending it. Two months ago, when the Ancient One first forced his soul out of his body, Jerry's interest in Soul Magic was reignited. He already had some foundation, having studied Sealing Magic, Soul Siphon, and Horcrux Creation, all of which were related to Soul Magic.
Therefore, he chose "Astral Projection" over the "Book of Cagliostro", which he had been studying previously, especially since the Time-Turner was currently unusable. Astral Projection would help him train and study more efficiently.
For example, he could maintain his physical body in a meditative state to enhance his magic power while his soul projected out to read and learn magic, effectively doubling his productivity in the same amount of time.
After selecting "Astral Projection", Jerry chose another seventy or eighty books related to soul magic from the regular and inner sections of the bookshelf. He then registered them and used a portal to transport them back to his villa in New York.
"Mirror Spatial!"
The first thing Jerry did upon returning to the villa was to activate the Mirror Spatial.
Building on his previous experience with the Hungarian Mirror Trap and the Hungarian Mirror World, he quickly figured out how to cast the mirror spatial magic using his own magic power.
The more magic he learned, the more he realized that many magical principles were similar. With a bit of contemplation, he could grasp the differences and make modifications without affecting the outcome.
While many mages at Kamar-Taj learned magic by rote, following incantations to create fixed energy arrays and successfully cast spells, Jerry understood the underlying principles. He could not only cast spells successfully but also make adjustments.
The Mirror Spatial was a highly practical spell. Inside it, he could practice and experiment with magic without affecting the outside world, while still being able to observe what was happening outside.
Since learning the Mirror Spatial, he rarely practiced magic in his Box Space, as it was not as safe as he initially thought. Although he had placed a Muggle Repelling Charm and an Invisibility Spell on the box, there was no guarantee that a powerful mage couldn't break through and take the box.
If the box were taken while he was inside, he wouldn't know, and he could be caught off guard when he emerged, which would be disastrous.
In the past, he had no choice but to practice and experiment outside the box, as it was inconvenient. Now, with the Mirror Spatial, things were different.
Moreover, he discovered that the Mirror Spatial and portals were a perfect combination.
From within the Mirror Spatial, he could observe what was happening in the real world, while those in the real world could not detect him. By opening a small portal, he could reach out and pull objects or people from the real world into the Mirror Spatial without anyone noticing.
He could also open a small portal behind an enemy and strike them from the Mirror Spatial, whether with a punch, kick, or a magic spell. The enemy would find it nearly impossible to avoid such attacks and would be forced to take the hits.
This combination was ideal for thievery, kidnapping, and surprise attacks.
Unless the opponent was equally skilled in spatial magic or could use overwhelming force to break the Mirror Spatial, these two spells alone would ensure his invincibility.
Sitting on the bed in the Mirror Spatial, Jerry prepared to experiment with a few Kamar-Taj spells he had been researching recently. Then, he would study "Astral Projection" for a while before beginning his daily meditation and training.
However, before the magic experiment began, he suddenly slapped his forehead:
"Almost forgot, I need to ask Tony for some help!"
He then picked up the magic mirror hanging from his waist, activated it with magic power, and redirected the connection to the mirror he had given Tony.
Meanwhile, at Stark Tower.
Tony and Dr. Banner were in the research facility, working together to study and build an enormous Iron War Armor. This armor's frame was vastly different from Tony's regular Iron Man suit, being much bulkier and about four to five times larger.
"Tony, I think you should design a super powerful pile driver on the arms of the suit. Otherwise, the regular punch won't be strong enough to hurt Hulk."
"Alright, maybe I should add an even more powerful energy cannon!"
Tony quickly adjusted the virtual projection design in front of him, half-jokingly.
Dr. Banner, standing nearby, nodded in agreement:
"I think that's a great idea!"
"Alright!"
Just as Tony felt Dr. Banner’s suggestions were getting a bit excessive, the lab doorbell rang. Turning around, he saw his bodyguard, Happy, waving a shiny, glowing mirror through the glass door.
"Jarvis, let Happy in!"
"Yes, sir!"
A mechanical voice sounded in the lab, and the transparent glass door immediately opened.
Happy quickly approached Tony, holding the glowing mirror:
"The mirror is glowing; it seems Witch is looking for you!"
"Oh, she hasn't contacted us in a while, such a heartless friend!"
Tony took the mirror and complained.
Since their last joint victory over the Extremis Warriors, he hadn't seen or heard from Witch again.
"Tony, are you busy? I need your help!"
Taking the magic mirror and pressing the connect button, a familiar yet unfamiliar voice and face appeared in the mirror.
Tony looked at the young man in the mirror, puzzled:
"It depends on who's asking. If it's Witch, I'm not busy. But who are you? Witch's brother?"
"Since you're not busy, let's meet in person!"
Jerry used the mirror's location to perform a Phantom Shift, appearing right in front of Tony.
Since they were both in New York City, using a Phantom Shift was more convenient than a portal.
"Dr. Banner is here too. Let me introduce myself again. I am Witch, my real name is Jerry Carmen. My previous appearance was mainly a magic transformation to fool S.H.I.E.L.D. and protect my family from harassment!"
"Witch!!!"
Tony and Banner were both taken aback, their mouths agape.
After a moment, Tony finally spoke:
"Alright, it's not a big deal. Your magic is pretty incredible, but it's just a bit surprising to find out you're a guy after always thinking of you as a girl."
"Yeah, your approach was right. I was chased all over by S.H.I.E.L.D. and General Ross, and even broke up with my girlfriend."
Dr. Banner nodded in agreement.
Although his relationship with S.H.I.E.L.D. had improved and they were collaborating on research to help him return to normal, he couldn't deny that his suffering over the past few years was largely due to S.H.I.E.L.D.
"By the way, what are you guys working on? Are you building a giant robot?"
Jerry looked at the large mech standing in the middle of the lab, about six meters tall, and couldn't help but show his curiosity.
Tony pointed at Banner and replied:
"This is a special suit Dr. Banner suggested for dealing with Hulk if he goes out of control. We call it the 'Anti-Hulk Armor.'"
"Right, I suggested it. That guy is too dangerous, and I don't want to be a fugitive again."
Banner didn't deny it when Tony shifted the blame to him. In his mind, Hulk was still a monster, something that needed to be eliminated.
He had been researching various serums to make Hulk disappear forever and return to a normal life.
"Ah, actually, I think Hulk is a good person. He never initiates attacks on others."
Jerry mentioned this but didn't dwell on the topic. Hulk and Banner were one, and it was Banner's decision to prevent Hulk. That wasn't why he was here today.
"Tony, I need your help with something."
"Sure, just tell me. If I can do it, I'll help you with all my might!"
Tony replied without hesitation.
Ever since he met Witch, Witch had always been helping him. It started with the life-saving potion, then dealing with the rogue robot soldiers, and finally resolving the Extremis Warriors crisis.
Now, it was finally his time to repay the favor.
As a genius scientist, a billionaire, and the man who created the Iron Man suit, his pride was far stronger than that of an average person.
Owing someone a favor for too long simply wasn't his style. Fortunately, he had recently upgraded his suit, making it ready for some serious action.
"This is the plan: in a few days, I'll be on summer break, and I need you to come to my place."
Five minutes later, after Jerry explained the entire plan to Tony, Tony's spirits dropped by half. Disappointed, he asked again:
"That's it? Nothing else, like fighting a super-villain or an evil Mage?"
"Tony, if there were an enemy that even I couldn't handle, do you think I'd be asking you?"
Before Jerry could finish, Tony interrupted:
"Don't say any more. I get it. Five days from now, right? I'll be there on time, just give me the address!"
"Alright, thanks. Make sure to play your part well; my dad is a police officer and is pretty good at spotting lies."
Jerry patted Tony on the shoulder and waved to Dr. Banner before vanishing with a Phantom Shift.
Once Jerry was gone, Dr. Banner approached Tony and muttered:
"I suddenly feel that maybe if Hulk really goes out of control and Witch comes to help, it might be more useful than our Anti-Hulk Armor."
"Ouch, big guy!"
Tony's mouth twitched, and he replied:
"I don't think we need to add any energy cannons. We could just add a nuke. That would definitely take you out!"
"Nuke? You can build a nuke? No, that would kill you too and harm innocent bystanders nearby..."
Dr. Banner immediately shook his head, rejecting the idea.
Tony sighed inwardly, realizing Dr. Banner had no sense of humor, then turned to the lab's computer and said:
"Jarvis, check the address Jerry left and gather information on his family. I need to prepare, and I can't mess this up!"
After giving the order, he scratched his head:
"For some reason, I feel like the name Jerry Carmen is familiar, and Witch's face looks familiar too."
"Sir, you met him before and even gave him a miniaturized Mark IV model."
Jarvis, the AI, answered while retrieving Jerry's information.
Tony froze when he heard Jarvis's response:
"No way, Jarvis, what do you mean I know him?"
"Sir, shortly after you publicly revealed your identity, a bank robbery occurred in Queens, New York. The robbers took a school bus hostage to escape. You had Pepper send a miniaturized Mark IV model to Mr. Carmen."
Jarvis immediately pulled up the information from the database and displayed a photo of Jerry at age eleven on the virtual screen.
Looking at Jerry's childhood photo, Tony remembered everything:
"It's him. No wonder those robbers met such a terrible end. He's always been so righteous."
Thinking about it, Tony felt he and Witch had a special connection.
Five days later, at the mansion.
"Aisha, even though it's summer break, you can't spend all day running around. You should still set aside time to review your studies!"
Jerry shook his head, trying to remind Aisha, who was lying on the sofa barefoot, secretly planning her summer Magic battle strategy in a notebook.
By now, the name "Mahjong Maiden" had become well-known, and Aisha was a small but famous hero in New York. Her real identity remained a secret, known only to her two best friends, Annie and Susan.
Why was Aisha's identity so well-protected?
It wasn't because Aisha was particularly meticulous. The main credit went to her personal house-elf and the four Magic Robot Soldiers that guarded her from the sky.
The benefit was that Jerry could focus on his Magic research and still receive a steady stream of red stars daily.
"I know, Jerry. I made it into the top fifteen in math this semester!"
Aisha turned around, beaming with pride.
"Alright, that's an improvement, but you need to keep working hard!"
Jerry wanted to point out that her class only had seventeen students, but since she wasn't at the bottom anymore, it was worth encouraging her.
"Aisha, since you did well on your exams, I have a gift for you!"
"What is it?"
At the mention of a gift, Aisha abandoned her summer Magic battle plan and jumped off the sofa.
Jerry pulled a box from his pocket and handed it to her:
"I found this at a general store. The owner tried to convince me it was a Magic Crown left behind by a great Mage named Carmen. He said it could increase wisdom, but I didn't believe it.
However, seeing that it looked quite pretty and wasn't expensive, I decided to buy it!"
"Carmen the Great Mage!"
Aisha's eyes widened when she heard Jerry's words, and she quickly grabbed the box.
Jerry smiled slightly and looked at Aisha.
"Yeah, it even has the same last name as me. I suspect the shop owner just made it up after asking my name, Aisha, don't you think?"
"Of course! There aren't that many Mages in this world, hahaha, hahaha."
Aisha laughed along, trying to sound natural.
Now, she couldn't let anyone connect the superhero "Mahjong Maiden" to herself. After all, the criminals she often dealt with weren't exactly good people. If they found out her real identity, it could endanger her brother and father.
Despite the laughter and jokes, Aisha's hands didn't hesitate. She quickly tore open the packaging on the box and took out the Magic Crown.
"Wow, it's so beautiful!"
Aisha was immediately captivated the moment she saw the Ravenclaw Crown.
The entire Ravenclaw Crown was shaped like an eagle spreading its wings, with the eagle's head at the center. The eagle's chest held a blue Magic gemstone the size of a dragon's eye. Below the dragon-sized gemstone, two smaller but identical gemstones hung.
The wings, which formed the crown's structure, were made of a Magic metal similar to platinum. Each feather on the wings was adorned with sparkling diamonds.
Even without considering the Magic effects the crown brought, it was a priceless treasure just by itself.
"The gems and diamonds are probably fake, but they look quite real. Do you like it?"
Jerry said this with a show of nonchalance.
Aisha carefully placed the crown down and then threw herself into Jerry's arms.
"Brother, you're the best!"
"Calling me 'brother' now, not Jerry?"
Jerry playfully let Aisha go.
"I'm going to my room first!"
After letting go of Jerry, Aisha picked up the crown and rushed to her room. She wanted to have the little green dragon verify whether the crown was indeed a magical item left by Carmen the Great Mage.
At that moment, the sound of footsteps came from the doorway. It was Has and Teacher Berry returning from the supermarket with groceries.
Jerry glanced at the time; it was 10:00 AM.
"It should be about right."
"Dad, I need to talk to you about something!"
Has had just walked in with the groceries and hadn't even had time to change into slippers when he heard Jerry's voice.
"Wait a moment, son. I'll put the groceries in the fridge first, and then I'll come over."
"Jerry, what is it you need to talk about with Dad?"
After helping Teacher Berry put all the groceries in the fridge, Has, with his slightly pudgy belly, wiped the sweat from his forehead and sat down on the sofa opposite Jerry.
It was rare for his son to seek his advice, so he took it seriously.
Jerry smiled and slowly said,
"Here's the thing. You know I've been accepted to Columbia University in Manhattan, so I thought I'd use the summer break to get a part-time job. It'll be good for me to gain some experience and earn some pocket money."
"Summer job? Jerry, Dad doesn't think it's necessary. You're already very talented, and you can relax during the summer. Besides, we're not short of money. Dad has been promoted to Deputy Commissioner. If you want anything, I can buy it for you or give you the money directly!"
Has was against Jerry's decision to work a summer job.
He felt that although Jerry was growing fast and was highly intelligent, his age meant he didn't need to start working so early, especially since the summer break had only just begun.
"Dad, you got promoted to Deputy Commissioner?"
Hearing Has's response, Jerry didn't continue the previous topic but asked in surprise.
Has immediately stroked the beard he had grown, looking proud.
"Haha, I just got the promotion. I'm now the Deputy Commissioner of the Queens Division. I was planning to tell you this good news during lunch!"
"Was it S.H.I.E.L.D.'s doing?"
Jerry smiled and congratulated him while secretly guessing.
Has had been a sheriff for so many years without getting promoted, mainly because he was too honest and lacked connections.
This sudden promotion, especially to a higher rank, was definitely not without some backing.
However, it was actually a good thing. As a Deputy Commissioner, he would be in an office all day, reducing the risk of fieldwork.
Originally, Jerry had planned to find time to talk to the Vice President to help boost Has's rank in the police force.
"Alright, don't change the subject, Jerry. I don't agree with you taking a summer job. We can talk about it when you start college!"
In the end, Has firmly opposed Jerry's plan to work during the summer.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
"Perfect timing!"
Jerry's face lit up with a smile when he heard the doorbell.
