Chapter 354: Training Ground
Chapter 354: Training Ground
The next morning, Liam was awakened by the sound of a phone call. It was an international call from China, where his parents had arrived safely and were now calling to let him know they were fine.
After catching up on some family news, Liam hung up the phone, got out of bed, and went to have breakfast. Now that his parents were gone, he could finally bring out some things he had been keeping hidden. He released a Handy to prepare breakfast for him, and then began to think about which worlds would be suitable for training Hermione.
After the last Traversal, Hermione had formed a Soul Bond with Liam. Thanks to this bond, he could bring her along on his Traversals. The problem was that the Deviation Points Hermione required were ten times what Liam needed, so worlds like A Song of Ice and Fire, which he had already mastered, were out of the question.
After some thought, Liam decided it would be best to choose a first or second-tier world. Hermione didn't lack combat experience; she had learned quite a bit from their regular practice sessions. What she lacked was the resolve to kill enemies on the battlefield. This was a common issue for most people who had grown up in peaceful times. It was a gift of peace, but it was also a significant disadvantage when it came to surviving on the battlefield. A low-tier world would be enough to transform her in this aspect while ensuring her safety.
With that in mind, Liam finished a hearty breakfast and then, with Handy in tow, headed to the Multiverse General Store to select a world. Rose Crystal wasn't there, leaving a note saying she had gone to find other puppets to play with.
Liam picked up the note and smiled, happy that Rose Crystal had found her own life. After sitting in a chair and thinking for a while, he decided to choose a first-tier world as their destination. Hermione needed to develop the resolve to kill, and a low-tier world would be sufficient for that.
Liam quickly ruled out the first world. The sight of Tom Hanks sitting in a chair with a small buzz cut was a clear sign that it was the world of Forrest Gump. While the movie was famous, the world was not suitable for combat. The second world was also unsuitable; Aamir Khan's face made it clear that it was the world of 3 Idiots, which was not only unsuitable for combat but also not very friendly to outsiders.
When Liam stepped through the portal into the third world, he found himself on a messy train, with English-speaking voices coming from the adjacent compartment.
"Slovakia, that's where you can find the best natural hot springs in the world." "Wait, isn't there a war going on there?" "Slovakia hasn't had a war in 50 years." Liam hid outside the door, recognizing the dialogue. As his powers grew, his memories of the past became clearer, and he realized he had heard these lines before.
Peering through the door crack, Liam saw four young women inside. Three were quite attractive, while the fourth was less so.
Liam knew where he was. It was the world of a horror movie he had watched with his roommates in college. He quickly decided to train Hermione here, as this world had plenty of deserving targets to help her understand the reality of life and death on the battlefield.
However, there was a problem: the portal would always bring him to the same place he entered from. To avoid being stranded on the train, Liam had to follow the movie's protagonists to their destination.
Using a Knockout Spell (Physical), he knocked out a few medicine vendors and threw them out of the window to clear out a compartment for himself to rest in. Since this world had no magic, Liam felt safe leaving a Dark Mark on the three female protagonists and setting up a few Magic Defense Arrays in the compartment. He then sat on the bed and began to review his knowledge.
After finishing a small application related to shadows, the sky had already brightened. The train stopped at a town in Slovakia. After casting a Disillusionment Charm on himself, Liam followed the three heroines until he saw them enter a hot spring inn. He nodded and decided to return, marking the beginning of the main plot.
Not long after returning, the doorbell rang. Opening the door, he found Hermione standing outside. "Sorry, I'm a bit late. I had to cook dinner today. Last night when you called, you asked me to come over this morning. Have you found a world where I can truly adapt to combat?"
"Yes", Liam said, ushering Hermione into the living room. "I've found a world where you can adapt to the upcoming brutal war. It's similar to our current world, but without Magic. So, let me ask you again, are you ready?"
"I'm ready", Hermione declared as soon as Liam finished speaking. "Ever since our adventure in that Temple, I've been thinking about this. When I faced the Vampire in that Underground Dungeon, I made up my mind. If we're doing the right thing, what does it matter if our hands are stained with blood? Besides, your hands are already stained. How can mine remain as clean as before?"
"Thank you." Liam embraced Hermione and gently kissed her cheek. Hermione looked a bit surprised, as Liam, due to his cultural background, rarely expressed his emotions through physical touch, unlike most British people. Fortunately, Hermione valued the connection of souls more, so she didn't mind his unique way of showing affection.
After the sudden embrace, Hermione quickly responded, feeling Liam's sincere emotions at that moment. They remained in that embrace for several minutes, both blushing before finally parting and looking away shyly.
"Alright, let's get going now. Close your eyes first", Liam finally broke the awkward silence.
"Okay." Hermione closed her eyes and extended her hand. Liam led her through two portals, arriving in the selected world.
"Alright, we're here. You can open your eyes now", Liam said. Hermione opened her eyes and curiously looked around. "We're still on Earth, and I can tell this is Europe, but which country exactly?"
"Slovakia", Liam replied simply. "I detected a strong scent of blood from the owner of this place. Eliminating these evil beings is your goal for this training session." Liam then briefly explained the nature of the establishment.
"A killing game, how terrifying. You're right; sometimes to save lives and reduce the suffering of the innocent, we can't be afraid to get our hands dirty", Hermione said after taking a few deep breaths. "By the way, do we have such people in our world?"
"Yes." "What? I always thought these evil beings were just exaggerations in art. How can they exist in reality?" Hermione was shocked. She knew that the worlds Liam visited were often derived from artistic works and were more exaggerated than the real world. She never imagined that such people could exist.
"That's because the world we're in now is also a world created by artistic works", Liam silently thought to himself. Of course, he would never voice these thoughts.
With a nod, Liam said, "Death Eaters and that person are like that. They kill any Muggle without reason and even engage in killing games. The only way to stop their evil deeds and save more lives is to end their lives."
"How terrifying! The evil in their hearts is truly the most frightening thing. Compared to this, even Dementors could be considered cute", Hermione concluded.
