Chapter 354: Swapping Disciples
Chapter 354: Swapping Disciples
"How boring, I'm not coming to these clan meetings again." After leaving the shrine, Obito decided that he wouldn't waste his time attending the Uchiha clan meetings anymore.
He felt that the meetings were just a bunch of self-righteous adults patting themselves on the back, and any dissenting opinion was quickly shot down.
"You can still come, but you don't need to bring your true body. You can just send a shadow clone to listen in," Itachi suggested.
"Most Uchiha ninjas attend these meetings, and you can get a sense of the clan's situation through the discussions," he added.
Despite being rejected by many Uchiha members earlier, Itachi still wanted to attend the meetings to gain a better understanding of the current state of the Uchiha clan.
History was in the past, and to truly solve the present issues, he needed to be more informed about the clan's current affairs.
However, this clan meeting made Itachi realize that within the Uchiha clan, the weak had no say, even if they were geniuses.
While it was true that geniuses enjoyed certain privileges, this did not extend to having a say in the clan's major decisions.
"If I send a shadow clone, it will probably end up fighting with me. It won't want to deal with such useless information," Obito said, knowing his shadow clone's temperament well.
He had come to realize that if he didn't want to do something, his shadow clone probably felt the same way.
"Your shadow clone certainly has a mind of its own," Itachi said, trying to be diplomatic.
Obito scratched his head and laughed. Thankfully, his shadow clone didn't let him down in critical moments; otherwise, he would seriously consider learning a different clone technique.
After chatting for a while, the two parted ways at the intersection.
Upon returning home, Itachi began to cultivate. He desperately needed to increase his strength; he was no longer the top disciple among Mu Yue's students, and he had no say in the clan meetings.
"I'll just graduate after the internship. It's too slow to stay in school," Itachi thought to himself.
He had previously discussed with Mu Yue his desire to participate in an internship during their second year, but at that time, Itachi hadn't decided if he wanted to graduate early.
Now, seeing Kakashi and Might Guy's rapidly increasing strength, and considering the need to resolve the clan's issues, Itachi felt he couldn't remain in the academy any longer.
After parting ways with Itachi, Obito didn't head home immediately. Since he had left early, it wasn't his usual bedtime yet, and if he cultivated at home, he would disturb his grandmother's sleep. So, Obito found a secluded little grove to begin his training.
Obito didn't have much of an impression of the clan meeting. Although he was a member of the Uchiha clan, the only Uchiha he had a close relationship with were his grandmother and Itachi. The rest were mostly strangers to him, and he felt that their behavior was a bit excessive, as they didn't even bother to listen to Itachi before shooting down his ideas.
The next day, Obito went to the South Border Forest as usual to continue his training. However, instead of starting right away, he brought up the topic of his grandmother's health.
"How can I get Grandma to agree to go to the hospital for a check-up?" Obito asked, looking at Mu Yue with pleading eyes.
"Just tell her that the hospital is having a promotion, offering free check-ups, and she won't need to spend any money," Mu Yue suggested after a moment's thought.
Elders often had a few common reasons for refusing to go to the hospital—either they felt there was nothing wrong with their health or they didn't want to spend the money. But if it was free, they would usually be more willing to go.
"You can also add that the first fifty people will get eggs," Mu Yue added.
"Will Grandma agree to go if I say that?" Obito scratched his head, not quite understanding the intricacies. In his eyes, health check-ups didn't cost much, and eggs were inexpensive too.
"Just give it a try. If this doesn't work, I'll think of something else," Mu Yue nodded.
If even this didn't work, Mu Yue would have to ask Tsunade for help. After all, it was important to make use of the resources at hand.
"Okay," Obito said, memorizing Mu Yue's suggestions before rushing home to try them out.
On his way home, Obito happened to run into Shizune, but as they weren't very familiar and Obito was in a bit of a hurry, he didn't stop to greet her.
"Wow, that was fast. Is that Obito?" Shizune recognized Obito from his features.
"Why is Obito here, and why is Teacher Mu Yue's training place so secluded..." Shizune looked around at the towering trees and couldn't help but complain.
Shizune wandered around for a while until she was discovered by a shadow clone, who led her to Mu Yue's true body.
Shizune had expected to only find Mu Yue there, but to her surprise, there were several copies of Mu Yue, and she also saw Kakashi and Itachi.
Shizune was vaguely familiar with Kakashi and Itachi. Kakashi had been in the same enrollment as her, but he had graduated before completing the first year, while she had graduated after the fourth year. As for Itachi, they had been in the same class, Class A, during the first special training session.
This level of familiarity basically meant they knew each other's names, so Shizune didn't want to disturb them and simply stood there, observing Mu Yue.
"What's your chakra nature?" Mu Yue asked.
Now that his strength was no longer a secret, Mu Yue didn't need to pretend anymore, so he brought Shizune over to cultivate with them.
"Chakra nature... I don't think I've ever tested it. Lady Tsunade said that in the end, I would be learning medical ninjutsu from her anyway," Shizune recalled.
Due to Tsunade's influence, her situation was a bit unique, and she hadn't gone through the usual process of being assigned to a team. Instead, she had graduated and immediately become Tsunade's disciple, learning only medical ninjutsu.
While Tsunade did know other ninjutsu, her medical ninjutsu was far superior, and it was only natural that she would teach her disciple what she excelled at most. However, the Yin-Yang nature couldn't be tested with chakra paper, so Shizune had never used it before.
"Let's test it now," Mu Yue said, as he had expected this and took out a piece of chakra paper to hand to Shizune.
Tsunade was known for her lack of reliability, so this wasn't surprising. Mu Yue had used his Appraisal technique on Shizune before, and as he expected, she had only learned medical ninjutsu.
"Thank you," Shizune said gratefully as she took the paper and infused it with her chakra.
As her chakra entered the paper, it quickly crumpled.
"Lightning nature..." Mu Yue furrowed his brows in thought.
It seemed a bit inappropriate to have Shizune learn the Lightning Breath technique. While it could enhance lightning release ninjutsu, that was just one of its effects, and to maximize this enhancement, one had to cultivate it to the Proficient level. Before reaching that level, the amplification of lightning release ninjutsu was only average. However, cultivating a breathing technique to proficiency was incredibly difficult, and most people couldn't do it.
The characteristic of the Lightning Breath technique was its powerful burst, but the original Shizune hadn't shown any talent in that area.
"Follow my posture and adjust your breathing," Mu Yue finally decided to teach Shizune the basic breathing technique first.
The basic breathing technique could still increase the effects of training, even if it lacked the special effects of other breathing techniques. Learning the basics first would also make it easier to pick up other breathing techniques later on.
Due to Shizune's extensive training with Tsunade, her knowledge of medical ninjutsu was already solid, so Mu Yue only needed to teach her specific jutsu.
Once Danzo had finished his training session and rested, he sought out Mu Yue to inform him about the previous day's clan meeting and his desire to graduate early.
"Teacher Mu Yue, do you think this is a problem?" Danzo looked at Mu Yue, seeking his opinion.
He believed that Mu Yue could make better and wiser choices, so even though he had decided to graduate early the day before, he wanted to consult Mu Yue once more.
"Graduating early is certainly risky. Life is full of unexpected events, but with your current strength, I believe you'll be fine." Mu Yue approved of Danzo's decision.
Danzo's current prowess surpassed that of many Chunin. While he might still encounter dangers after graduating, his chances of staying safe were relatively high.
As for absolute safety, Mu Yue himself couldn't guarantee it, not even for his disciples.
A smile appeared on Danzo's face as Mu Yue's affirmation put him at ease.
"By the way, Teacher Mu Yue, I think I've made some progress with my Body Flicker Technique." Danzo then shared his recent training achievements.
Danzo gathered his chakra and focused it into his fist, imagining an invisible armor protecting his hand. He then punched the ground, trying this several times, and among his attempts, two punches stood out as noticeably more powerful.
"I can't use it consistently yet, but I'm starting to get a feel for it," Danzo said as he retracted his fist.
Mu Yue used his Appraisal technique on Danzo, and his mastery of the Body Flicker Technique had reached seventy points.
He calculated the time; Danzo had been learning this technique for over half a year, and this progress was reasonable.
"There's no need to rush. You're close to mastering it, and unless something unexpected happens, you should be able to perfect it after graduating," Mu Yue estimated.
Compared to Danzo, the other disciples were lagging, partly due to the inherent difficulty of the Body Flicker Technique and partly because they hadn't spent as much time practicing it.
For example, Kakashi was currently refining his breathing technique and exploring the Transparent World, while Obito was perfecting his Fire Release Chakra Mode, and Might Guy was evenly advancing his Eight Gates Breathing Technique. As for Yahiko, he hadn't even started learning it.
It wasn't that the Body Flicker Technique was unimportant, but at their current stage, it wasn't as beneficial to Obito and the others as what they were currently learning. Their chakra reserves were already stretched thin.
Of course, mastering the Body Flicker Technique would be useful, as it would enable them to handle more situations. However, at this point, it wasn't worth investing a significant amount of time in it.
"As expected of Teacher Mu Yue!" After a morning of intense training in the Southern Border Forest, Obito gave Mu Yue a thumbs-up.
Mu Yue could guess Obito's expression and thus his findings.
"Thankfully, Grandma isn't seriously ill. It's a good thing I went early," Obito said with relief.
"Older people tend to have weaker immune systems, so keep an eye on her health," Mu Yue advised, his expression turning thoughtful.
He wondered if Uchiha Madara would use Obito's grandmother to push Obito towards darkness.
If there were a trust ranking system, Mu Yue believed that Obito's grandmother and Yahiko would rank at level four, while Kakashi's ranking was less certain. He might be at that level, but it wasn't a given.
If Obito's grandmother were to be brutally killed in front of him, Mu Yue was confident that Obito would immediately unlock the Mangekyo Sharingan. However, as long as Yahiko and he remained safe, Mu Yue thought it unlikely that Obito would turn to the dark side, though his personality might undergo changes.
But if Yahiko and Obito's grandmother were both brutally killed, Mu Yue wasn't so sure.
"I'll station a shadow clone to keep watch."
Mu Yue decided to assign a shadow clone to protect Obito's grandmother.
"Okay, if Grandma's health deteriorates, I'll use your method to take her to the hospital," Obito said before rushing off to train.
The thought of Kakashi having an extra half-day of training while he hadn't filled Obito with dread. It felt like Kakashi had gained a full day's advantage over him.
Watching his disciples train diligently, Mu Yue turned his attention to mastering the Flying Thunder God technique.
While the Flying Thunder God technique wouldn't bring about a qualitative change in his strength, it would be incredibly convenient in various ways.
To master this technique, Mu Yue even resorted to using shadow clones to learn it, sparing no effort.
However, the results were still unsatisfactory, and after two days, he hadn't gained any proficiency.
"You all work so hard; no wonder your strengths are so formidable." Shizune, who had been practicing breathing and taijutsu for most of the day, took a break and noticed that Obito and the others maintained their intense training without stopping.
This training environment was novel to Shizune, as she usually trained alone with Tsunade, with no peers around.
Now, seeing others her age or even younger working so hard, Shizune felt a sense of guilt if she stopped.
After practicing breathing and taijutsu for most of the day, Shizune moved on to learning medical ninjutsu.
Although Shizune was already exhausted from the previous training, she was surprised to find that she could still absorb the lessons effectively. She felt that she had gained a lot from Mu Yue's teaching.
"Teacher Mu Yue's teaching is indeed better than Lady Tsunade's," Shizune thought as she compared the two.
While Shizune deeply respected and admired Tsunade, she had to admit that Mu Yue was the superior teacher, even when it came to medical ninjutsu.
Shizune even felt that she was smarter and more adept at understanding and memorizing when learning from Mu Yue.
"Lady Tsunade will definitely be shocked half a year from now," Shizune said with anticipation, looking forward to seeing Tsunade's expression when she checked her progress.
After all, Tsunade often bullied her, so it wouldn't hurt to give her a little surprise.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Yahiko, who was training with Tsunade, also experienced the brilliance of the legendary Sannin's medical prowess.
It seemed that there wasn't any medical knowledge she didn't possess. No matter what question Yahiko had, Tsunade always answered effortlessly.
However, Yahiko also discovered another side of Tsunade.
"Lady Tsunade, it's time to get up," Yahiko said with a resigned look at the drunken Tsunade, who was passed out.
One of the Three Legendary Sannin, Tsunade, was supposed to be renowned throughout the ninja world, yet she couldn't even get up in the morning!
