Chapter 353: Warning
Chapter 353: Warning
Lu Jiaxin invited Tang Sufeng in, but not for a friendly chat or performance. She closed the book in her hand and placed it on the chair beside her before standing up.
Seeing her expressionless face, Tang Sufeng felt a sense of dread and unconsciously took a step back.
Lu Jiaxin looked up at her and said, "There's no need to put on an act in front of me. I know exactly what you're up to, Ms. Tang. You have his generous retirement money, and you live in the housing compound unit. I won't stand in your way if you want to live in the house I bought for him..."
She paused deliberately at this point.
Tang Sufeng instinctively knew that what followed would not be pleasant.
Lu Jiaxin continued, "You can live in the house, but if you plan to take sole possession of it, consider first whether you can handle it or if it will be too much for you."
"Also, there's no such thing as a free lunch in this world. In exchange for living in his house and enjoying his retirement money, you will take good care of him. Should he fall ill or become disabled, and you decide to abandon him, I will make sure you return everything you've taken, with interest."
If the Huang family took good care of Lu Hongjun, they wouldn't need to bother Lu JiaGuang and Lu JiaZong anymore.
Tang Sufeng shuddered and quickly assured, "Don't worry, I will definitely take good care of your father if anything happens to him."
Lu Jiaxin didn't take her words to heart but felt it was necessary to give a warning, "I've said what I needed to say, now you can leave."
Qian Xiaoxiao saw that Tang Sufeng didn't move and added, "If you don't leave now, I'll throw you out."
Tang Sufeng left in a fluster.
Qian Xiaoxiao was puzzled, "Sister Jiaxin, why did that woman come here?"
"She came to test the waters, to see if Father and I could be reconciled. If we were to make amends and I started living in a nice hotel, it would mean financial benefits for her and her son. If we don't reconcile, she hasn't lost anything." Lu Jiaxin explained.
After returning, Tang Sufeng did not tell Lu Hongjun about her visit to the hotel to meet Lu Jiaxin. This encounter made her realize that Lu Jiaxin was not as easy to fool as she had imagined.
Seeing her gloomy mood, Lu Hongjun took out the keys to the house and said, "Let's go see the new place tomorrow."
Tang Sufeng's mood instantly brightened. Once they moved into the new house, they could leave this place for Lao Er and his future wife. As for the house in Chaoyang, she dared not entertain any thoughts about it, as that girl was formidable. However, with both Lao Da and Lao Er having their own houses, they would only need to worry about finding a place for Lao San in the future.
The next day, the two of them went to the new house early in the morning.
Upon entering and seeing the spacious courtyard, Tang Sufeng was delighted, "Oh, Lao Lu, the courtyard is so big! We can plant some flowers, and when they bloom in summer, the courtyard will be filled with color, and it will be so pleasant."
Lu Hongjun smiled and agreed.
After inspecting the house inside and out, Tang Sufeng was very satisfied. The four rooms were not only spacious but also filled with natural light. The master bedroom even had an en-suite bathroom, and the kitchen was large. While the housing compound unit was nice, it couldn't compare to this place.
Lu Hongjun also loved the house and planned to move in after the spring.
Tang Sufeng excitedly suggested, "Lao Lu, let's move here and spend the New Year in our new home!"
Although the housing compound unit was more spacious than her previous home, the problem was the gossipy women in the compound. She knew they had been spreading rumors about her, and she didn't enjoy being the center of their attention. She wanted to move out as soon as possible.
Lu Hongjun didn't agree, "This house only has furniture in the room we'll be using. The other three rooms are empty."
Lu Hongjun and Tang Sufeng discussed the need to purchase a bed and furniture, as well as kitchen supplies. With the Lunar New Year just half a month away, they felt that moving now would be too rushed.
Hearing mention of the New Year, Tang Sufeng said, "Lao Lu, Jiaxin can stay in a nice hotel for now, but surely she won't spend the New Year in one..."
Before she could finish, Lu Hongjun interjected, "She won't be spending the New Year there. She'll be returning to Hong Kong City in a couple of days."
"So soon?" Tang Sufeng asked, surprised.
Lu Hongjun explained that Lu Jiaxin had only returned to handle the matter of the house, and now that it was resolved, she would likely go back. "Ms. Gu doesn't have any children, so Jiaxin will probably want to spend the New Year with her."
Tang Sufeng envied Lu Jiaxin's good fortune, having gained such wealth and a comfortable life.
Lu Hongjun asked, "Sufeng, what do you think? Should we have someone make the furniture, or should we just buy it from a store?"
Tang Sufeng, ever frugal, replied, "Buying ready-made furniture is too expensive, and we can't be sure about the quality of the wood they use. It's better to buy the wood ourselves and hire a master carpenter to make the furniture. That way, we'll have peace of mind."
"But that will take a long time," Lu Hongjun pointed out.
"Then let's have the bed made first," Tang Sufeng suggested with a smile. "The wardrobe and tables and chairs can wait."
"Whatever you say," Lu Hongjun agreed.
The two enthusiastically discussed their plans at length, but as the sky began to darken, they prepared to head back. However, as they were about to lock the door, they unexpectedly saw Lu An. Accompanying him was a middle-aged man in his forties.
Although Lu An disagreed with Lu Hongjun's treatment of Lu Jiaxin, he still respected his elder. "Grand-uncle, you're here to see the house too?"
Tang Sufeng knew the names of all of Lu Hongjun's family members, but she had only met Lu Shan and Xiao Qiu. The rest of the family avoided her due to the influence of Lu JiaGuang and Lu JiaZong, who didn't want their children associating with her. Nonetheless, the family resemblance was strong, and it was clear that this young man was a member of the Lu family. Tang Sufeng just wasn't sure if he was the son of the eldest brother, Lu Ping, or the second brother, Lu An.
"Lao Lu, who is this?" she asked.
Lu Hongjun sighed, feeling that this encounter was rather inopportune. "Sufeng, this is Lu An. Lu An, this is your third grandmother."
Influenced by their elders, the Lu family children from Si Jiu City all harbored negative feelings towards Tang Sufeng. However, since Lu Hongjun had already introduced them, Lu An politely greeted her as Tang Grandma.
Tang Sufeng didn't mind the formality and warmly asked, "Lu An, are you also here to see the house?"
The day before, Lu Hongjun had mentioned that Lu JiaGuang intended to buy a house close by for convenience, so he could take care of his father in the future.
Lu An nodded. "No, I'm here with Master Chen to take measurements. We plan to move in after the spring next year, so we need to have beds, wardrobes, and desks made."
The houses in the compound were small, and even with bunk beds, there was barely enough space for a tiny desk. The siblings often had to take turns doing their homework or go to the living room. Now, with a spacious new house, each of the four children could have their own room, so beds and desks were essential.
Tang Sufeng wasn't surprised. She knew that Lu JiaGuang's house wasn't much bigger than theirs, and with so many people, it would be crowded. Now that they had the opportunity to move into a larger home, it was understandable that they would want to do so as soon as possible. Curious about the size of Lu JiaGuang's new house, she suggested, "Lao Lu, let's go take a look as well!"
Lu Hongjun frowned, feeling annoyed that this secret would be revealed so soon. He had planned to wait until after the New Year to tell them. If he had known that Lu An would be bringing a carpenter to take measurements today, he would have chosen a different day to come.
