Chapter 353: Vampire Visit at Night
The night was overcast, the sky heavy with darkness. The Northern Wind still howled mournfully. On the towering, thick City Wall, soldiers paced nervously back and forth, tense and alert—but they could not see what lurked within the shadows.
Beneath the wall, rustling sounds echoed from the darkness. Then, one by one, pairs of crimson eyes flickered to life, glowing faintly in the blackness.
Pale as death, clad in pure black tailcoats, their chests adorned with a crimson emblem of crossed dagger and violin—these were the forces of the night: Nocturne.
But all of them here were Players.
The Player known as Darknight Wolf ran a hand along the cold stone of the wall, voice tight with unease:
"Langge, this is a full city—tens of thousands live inside. With just us, can we really take it down?"
"Who said anything about storming the gates?"
Langli BaiTiao scoffed, then gave the rookie a hard拍头.
"Ow!"
Langli BaiTiao shook his head, exasperated. "Do you even know what assassination means? We’re Vampires—the elegant killers of the night. Sneaking into the city, eliminating a few nobles? Child’s play."
"And for the love of all things holy—stop calling me Langge. From now on, it’s Boss. You’ve joined Nocturne, so start acting like it. No more backsliding."
Darknight Wolf rubbed his head, whispering:
"Boss… but if someone sees us… isn’t that still just… assassination?"
Langli BaiTiao grinned. "You’re dense. Of course not! If there’s a witness, it’s no longer assassination. It’s exposure.
According to Nocturne’s code—any mission discovered must be abandoned immediately."
Darknight Wolf pointed upward, voice hushed:
"Then… we’re already screwed. That noise we made? Someone saw us."
Langli BaiTiao’s smile froze. He snapped his head up, staring at the wall above.
A soldier stood crouched, peering down—directly into the glowing crimson eyes.
The man’s body jolted. Fear flooded his face. He opened his mouth—
"Th-there’s—"
Swoosh—
A black arrow pierced through his throat, tearing open his windpipe. No sound came out. He collapsed, dead before he hit the ground.
Langli BaiTiao lowered his hand crossbow, turning back with a chilling smile.
"Perfect. Now… it’s still assassination."
He clapped Darknight Wolf on the shoulder, voice low and serious:
"Kid, you’re still too green. In an assassination, no sound—ever. Not even a breath."
"But Boss, it was—"
"Never mind."
Darknight Wolf stopped mid-sentence, seeing that grin again—sharp, knowing, merciless. He swallowed the rest.
Langli BaiTiao scanned the dozen or so Vampire Players he’d brought, his voice dropping to a whisper:
"The sentry’s dead. Patrols will be here soon. We have to infiltrate the city—now."
"Yes, Boss."
Using their Spider Climb racial ability, the Players scaled the wall with unnatural speed.
Their movements were… less than graceful. Clinging to the stone like a swarm of giant spiders, backs arched, legs splayed—they looked like something out of a nightmare.
In moments, they reached the top. Ready to flip over the wall—
Then, disaster struck.
"George, wake up!"
"If the Captain of the Guard shows up, he’ll slap you hard. He’s in a terrible mood lately."
"George?"
A patrol soldier, lantern in hand, stepped toward the fallen figure lying on the ground.
He didn’t realize it was a corpse—just assumed the sentry had fallen asleep on duty.
Darknight Wolf, clinging to the wall, whispered:
"Boss… what now?"
"Another witness," Langli BaiTiao murmured.
But as the patrolman drew closer, the scent of fresh blood hit his nose. His instincts flared.
"Wait… George? What happened to you?"
"You hurt?"
"Kill him."
The command came from deep in Langli BaiTiao’s throat—barely a growl.
"Got it."
A Vampire Player leapt onto the wall, moving like smoke. In a blink, he slipped behind the patrolman—then a single, precise motion. A blade slid across the man’s neck.
Crack.
The soldier collapsed, falling straight into the arms of the dead sentry. Two corpses lay side by side—silent, still, blood pooling beneath them.
But the patrolman’s final gasp had echoed through the silence.
It wasn’t lost on the soldiers in the nearby watchtowers.
"David, did you hear that?"
"Sounds like Stephen’s post…"
"Enemy?"
"Anything wrong over there? We need to check."
Voices rose in alarm. Dozens of soldiers began converging toward the spot—fast.
Darknight Wolf’s hands trembled. He turned to Langli BaiTiao, voice cracking:
"B-Boss… more witnesses… what do we do? If the assassination’s exposed… does that mean we fail?"
"Who said it’s exposed?"
Langli BaiTiao stared at the approaching soldiers, jaw clenched.
"Kill them all. Then there won’t be any witnesses."
Darknight Wolf blinked. Then his eyes lit up.
"Right! Boss—you’re right! Why didn’t I think of that?"
"Eliminate all witnesses."
The order rang out.
The Vampire Players surged forward—moving like shadows, silent, swift.
With practiced precision, they fired arrows from their hand crossbows. The soldiers never saw them coming. One by one, they dropped—silent, dead.
"David?"
"Damn it—arrows! Enemy!"
The soldiers finally realized—they were under attack.
But it was too late.
The Vampires were already among them—dancing in the dark, hiding in the shadows, striking without sound.
"Huff… huff…"
Darknight Wolf panted, dagger trembling in his grip.
He closed his eyes—then lunged forward, driving the blade deep into a soldier’s right chest. The man screamed—
But he wasn’t dead.
In the next instant, an arrow tore through his throat.
Langli BaiTiao, crouched in the darkness, wiped blood from his lips with a sigh.
"Damn it… human hearts are on the left, you idiot."
Darknight Wolf chuckled nervously.
"Sorry, Boss… first kill, you know?"
The Vampire Players moved like ghosts through the chaos, using their racial advantages—darkness their ally, silence their weapon. One by one, the soldiers fell.
"Monsters! There are monsters in the shadows!"
"What are they?"
"Help me!"
"Oh God… they’re all dead!"
The soldiers screamed in terror, praying, running blindly—useless. Their panic only fed the horror, deepening the nightmare.
Soon, the air reeked of blood.
The City Wall was piled high with corpses. Not a single soldier remained standing.
"Phew… finally no witnesses. Let you meddling fools stay out of our way."
"Infiltration Mission—perfect success."
Langli BaiTiao stood atop the corpse pile, wiping a smear of boiling blood from his forehead. He spat.
"Yep… perfect."
"Right, Boss…"
"An excellent infiltration."
Darknight Wolf echoed, nodding—though something still felt… off. He couldn’t put his finger on it.
But he nodded anyway.
Yet the screams, the blood, the massacre—it had not gone unnoticed.
Below, a fresh squad of soldiers was already preparing to climb the wall, weapons drawn.
"Damn… more work."
"Everyone’s gone."
Langli BaiTiao looked down, sighed deeply.
