Chapter 353: The Vampire
Chapter 353: The Vampire
Granwhite picked up the photo and casually placed it aside, while Carrel reached out to take a look.
"I heard they said that this guy named Will might already be dead. Why are we still looking for him?" Carrel asked.
"Who can be sure he's truly dead?"
Granwhite replied, "If he's alive and falls into the enemy's hands, we'll decide whether to rescue or eliminate him based on the situation. If Dar's failure was caused by Will leaking information, we'll make him pay with his life."
"So, he's going to die either way, right?" Carrel tossed the photo aside and said, "I hope I get to meet him—this place is too boring."
"Your task is not that. You need to find a way to get close to Ved Gray, and if the opportunity arises..."
"I know, I know! You've nagged me about it several times already!"
Carrel interrupted impatiently and, seeing no change in the flowing mirror's display, turned on the television in the guest room as well.
He sat cross-legged on the bed, barefoot, looking like a mischievous child. But his good looks made this demeanor less irritating.
Granwhite muttered under his breath and stopped paying attention to him, focusing on writing on the paper.
Looking at the handmade leather-bound parchment notebook, it was obviously a Companion Ledger.
Outside the window, Ved smacked his lips.
The drawback of technological innovation is that even the inventor cannot ensure that their creation only benefits those around them without extending to others—especially their enemies.
If it were a mobile phone, there might be a way to install a background monitoring program.
But a Companion Ledger is just a piece of paper, and it's impossible for Ved to hide a monitoring charm within it without anyone noticing, especially with wizards like Dumbledore in the world whose knowledge of spells is immeasurable.
Ved wouldn't be foolish enough to challenge these lifelong researchers with his one or two years of magical experience.
So the Companion Ledgers he made were clean, without any hidden monitoring or bombs.
This was also the reason Granwhite continued to use the Companion Ledger after entering the Muggle town—Muggle phones could be easily wiretapped, but the Companion Ledger was impossible to monitor.
Therefore, Ved, the inventor, could only watch through the glass, unable to see what he was writing on the paper.
—Perhaps there's no need to wait any longer.
Ved glanced at Carrel and silently withdrew from the group of three birds, gliding towards a nearby narrow alley.
He needed to transform back into human form to use magic or potions to capture the defenseless duo in the room.
Ved didn't have any special friendship with Carrel; he just wanted to beat up this seemingly crooked kid, allowing his pitiful father to reunite with his son and entrusting Dumbledore or the elite Aurors to investigate the truth.
Carrel's actions towards Lupin were despicable, but he was not yet 14 years old, and according to Muggle law, he couldn't be held criminally responsible.
However, in the magical world, even minors of thirteen or fourteen sometimes had to pay the price for their actions.
Ved was pondering which method to use to capture the two unsuspecting individuals in the room when he suddenly heard a strange flapping sound.
He turned abruptly and saw two larger bats descending from the sky, landing directly on the guest room's window glass.
"Who's there?
"Bang!" Granwhite was startled and rushed to the window, only to see two bats.
"Niel, Clami? Aren't you two still on surveillance?"
"Yeah."
The two bats transformed into human forms, one male and one female. The woman was one of the couple from before, and the man looked vaguely familiar.
Vold tried to recall and finally remembered—this man seemed to have been in the tavern earlier, but he was rather inconspicuous, and half of his body was hidden behind the plants.
"Dumbledore has arrived, but he's currently held up by the injured. I suspect that if we stay any longer, he might catch us." Clami explained.
Granwhite frowned and then nodded, "You're right... What about the photos?"
"Here." Niel indicated the camera in his hand, "They haven't been developed yet."
Granwhite nodded, "Do it quickly! Ideally, it should make the front-page headline tomorrow."
"Understood," the man fiddling with the camera said, looking down.
Granwhite didn't mind his attitude; he just smirked and said with malicious intent, "The wizards here are too weak; even werewolves and vampires are useless. It's all because of that code—"
"The Non-Wizard Half-Human Treatment Code," Carrel suddenly said, "I think that's what it's called."
Granwhite paused and asked, "Weren't you always not paying attention in class?"
"Come on, I'm not sleeping all the time, am I?" Carrel said helplessly, "Besides, I do read books sometimes."
Granwhite was momentarily at a loss for words and decided to ignore him. He turned to the other two and said, "Once this news is published, it will definitely cause an uproar. The situation for these werewolves will become even more difficult. At that time, when we contact them again, they will know who their true comrades are!"
Carrel struggled to resist the urge to roll his eyes and muttered something under his breath.
Niel and Clami both nodded, and Clami smirked, "Then I'll report that Claire is a werewolf! Let her taste the betrayal of a trusted person!"
"It's a pity no one died," Niel suddenly said, "Otherwise, the news would have been more likely to stir up conflict."
"It doesn't matter. Find a good reporter," Granwhite suggested, "Like Rita Skeeter..."
"She's been keeping a low profile recently," Clami said, "Apparently, because she exposed the true identity of a high-ranking official in the Ministry of Magic, Rita Skeeter has been targeted and had to flee the country."
"Then go find Guff, I remember he's an editor now."
"Understood."
"Hoot, hoot."
Two voices sounded almost simultaneously.
Niel suddenly turned his head and stared at the owl outside the window. After observing for a while, he slowly took out his wand and abruptly waved it towards the window! A black beam of light hit the owl that had made the sound, and it fell straight down.
Then, the second owl hadn't even flown two meters before it followed its companion's fate.
Vold crouched in the corner of the alley, watching the man pick up the bodies of the two owls on the ground. He then looked around alertly before returning to the hotel room.
"What's going on? Why the sudden use of magic?" Granwhite scolded, "Be careful not to expose us."
"You were too careless!" Niel frowned and accused, "There was an owl outside the window, why didn't you shoo it away? Don't you know wizards can transform into animals?"
