Chapter 353: Nymphadora Tonks
Chapter 353: Nymphadora Tonks
Ever since Sirius Black's escape from Azkaban, everyone had been busy, including Diana.
She was out today, and the house was empty.
Chris went straight to the study upon returning home and continued working on his report. By the look of it, he would likely be pulling an all-nighter.
A "Twig" wobbled and climbed onto Kyle's shoulder...
"Long time no see, Groot."
"And you, Tom... Wait, I feel like you've gotten chubbier since last month."
Tom the Bakeneko had also intended to greet him, but upon hearing this, he turned around and walked away, leaving only his upright tail visible to Kyle.
Kyle didn't mind. After greeting the two animal members of the household, he returned to his room upstairs. He opened the box and emptied some of its contents onto the table.
This was one of the reasons he didn't want to stay at the Leaky Cauldron.
The Aurors had an array of unpredictable abilities, like Mad-Eye Moody, who possessed a magical eye that could see through objects.
Although Moody had retired long ago, one couldn't be too sure if there were other Aurors with similar capabilities.
To be safe, after they discovered the Leaky Cauldron, Kyle always set his trunk to Muggle mode, which was rather inconvenient.
Now, this was much better. At the very least, he didn't have to worry about someone suddenly barging into his room and forcibly searching his trunk.
Newt had encountered such situations when he was younger, even though it had been in other countries. It was always better to be cautious.
After all, he had a dragon in his trunk, and if that were discovered, he might receive the same treatment as Sirius Black.
Kyle sat down at the table and poured all the dragon blood he had obtained in Romania into the small vials he had purchased from Diagon Alley.
The previous bottles had been too large, and these smaller ones were more convenient to use. Kyle also sorted and organized the other materials, herbs, and magical ingredients before putting them back into the trunk.
With too many items and the interference of Bowtruckle and Niffler, it was already late by the time Kyle finished tidying up.
After being away from home for a month, Kyle finally lay down on his familiar bed, and drowsiness quickly washed over him.
The next morning, Chris, with disheveled hair, sent him off to King's Cross Station.
"Are you going to wait here for the Weasleys?" Chris asked, rubbing his eyes as they stood in front of Platform Nine. "I think we're probably ahead of them."
"In fact, Mr. Chris, they entered the platform five minutes ago."
A cheerful voice rang out from behind them.
The two turned simultaneously and saw a strange witch standing there.
"You are..." Chris frowned.
"Oh, I almost forgot." The witch quickly shook her head, and her face began to transform. Her hair changed from chestnut to a very light blue, and her face became younger.
"I should've guessed." Chris rubbed his forehead. "It's been a while, Tonks."
"Not that long," Nymphadora Tonks said with a smile. "We just saw each other last night, but you didn't recognize me."
The old witch drinking mead last night had been her.
"It's not easy to recognize a metamorphmagus in a crowd." Chris smiled and patted Kyle's shoulder. "This is my son, Kyle.
Strangely, despite the bustling crowd, no one seemed to notice this peculiar transformation.
"We've met," she said. "I was there when you were sorted into Hufflepuff, back when I was in my seventh year."
Kyle nodded in agreement.
Indeed, he had seen Tonks before, but they weren't exactly acquainted.
Although they were both in Hufflepuff, Tonks had become an apprentice Auror in her seventh year and was rarely at school.
Kyle had only seen her once during the Sorting Ceremony, and that was the extent of their interaction.
"I almost forgot, you're only six years older than Kyle," Chris rubbed his head.
Noticing his exhausted appearance, Tonks asked curiously, "Just how many reports did you write yesterday?"
"Eight," Chris sighed. "From noon yesterday until half an hour ago."
"Was it really necessary to write that many reports just for a trip to Romania?"
"I don't know. Somehow, the number of reports I have to write keeps increasing year after year."
"Same here," Tonks' hair turned a shade of gray. "I never imagined that after becoming an Auror, I'd be dealing with reports every day... I spend more time in the office than on actual missions."
Tonks continued to complain until a tall wizard approached, after which she shut her mouth and pretended as if nothing had happened.
"Kingsley!" Chris greeted the man.
This was the same person they had seen reading the newspaper at the Leaky Cauldron yesterday.
However, Kyle did not join in their subsequent conversation.
By this time, the train was about to depart, and as Kingsley walked over, Kyle had already walked through the wall and entered Platform 9.
The Hogwarts Express was still at its usual spot, billowing smoke, and the platform was packed with parents seeing off their children.
Fred and George appeared on either side of Kyle.
"You're cutting it close, the train's about to leave," Fred commented.
"We thought you might be planning to fly to Hogwarts in a car like last time," George said, draping an arm around his shoulder.
"We ran into an acquaintance outside, which delayed us a bit," Kyle explained. "Nymphadora Tonks, you know her, right?"
"Of course, the Metamorphmagus,"
"Quite the celebrity a few years back, she's famous."
"But I thought she became an Auror..." Fred pondered, "I guess it must be because of Sirius Black that she's here at King's Cross Station."
"Maybe they're worried he'll mix in with the parents?"
"That's the only explanation that makes sense."
"Do they think Black will go to Hogwarts?"
Just then, a loud whistle sounded, and Fred and George stopped discussing Tonks, hurrying alongside Kyle towards the train.
The platform guards were closing the doors one by one, and the three of them quickened their pace, just managing to board before the train started moving.
"You have to go see Percy."
In the corridor, Fred sported a mischievous grin. "We modified his badge,"
"He hasn't noticed yet, but the words on the badge have transformed into a giant head."
