Chapter 353: From Joy to Misfortune
Chapter 353: From Joy to Misfortune
What kind of feeling would one have upon learning that the children of the guild had united to defeat a member of the Ten Great Mages? Shock, disbelief, and then, overwhelming joy.
"As expected of the mages of Fairy Tail, ahahahaha!"
Makalov's laughter was loud and unrestrained, drowning out everyone else.
"Well done! You all did an excellent job!"
The old man's mouth was almost twisted from laughter, and his eyes were filled with pride.
After decades as the guild master, to witness such a scene before his retirement, Makalov felt it was all worth it.
This was the true strength of the guild he had strived for—not just relying on the power of an individual, but the united strength of everyone.
Listening to the children excitedly recounting the battle, Makalov thought to himself... The Assault Team fought valiantly, the Mobile Team performed splendidly, the Sniper Team's support was timely, the Command Team's instructions were clear, and the Overall Team's coordination was perfect.
How could there be such an incredible guild in this world? And it's our guild, hahahaha!
"Rod, what about the security?"
"Ask the Guild Master."
"Rod, what about the Phantom's injured members?"
"Ask the Guild Master."
"Rod..."
"Ask the Guild Master!"
Rod completely relaxed, leaning into Mila's embrace and letting go of everything. It was all the Guild Master's responsibility, not his.
But he only rested for a moment before getting up, noticing the slight frown on Mila's face.
There was something peculiar about the Absorb: Demon Huterly magic; when Mila was attacked in Demon Huterly Mode, it was her own clothes that were damaged upon recovery.
Mila's face was covered in dust, her hair was tangled, and the ends of her hair showed signs of being scorched.
The sleeve of her t-shirt was torn off, revealing a slightly injured shoulder and the strap of her black underwear. The strap had several small tears and was on the verge of breaking.
The hem of her skirt was damaged, exposing her navel and side waist. The black pleated skirt, which originally reached her knees, had a tear on one side, revealing a corner of the guild's emblem.
"That move must have hurt, right?" Rod looked at Mila with concern and handed her a shirt to drape over her.
Rod wanted to get the first aid kit, but applying medicine at this moment didn't seem very convenient.
"I'm fine. There aren't even any wounds. I'll recover in no time," Mila reassured him, not wanting him to worry.
She tightened the shirt around her body and then decided to wear it.
The sleeves were too long, and she flapped them like little wings before straightening them and extending her hand.
The hem of the shirt was also too long, almost like a skirt.
After buttoning up, the shirt still looked loose, covering her figure, but something about it felt odd.
Mila tried to tuck in the hem to show off her waist, but it just didn't look right.
Rod slightly regretted not choosing a different shirt; this one was meant for homewear.
Then, Rod was pulled away.
It seemed Elfman had started it, as a large group of people gathered, cheering as they tossed Rod into the air and caught him, over and over again.
"Hey! Are you guys done yet?"
"Don't touch my wounds, you idiots!"
"Shouldn't it be enough by now?"
No one paid attention to Rod's shouting, and they continued to toss him into the air repeatedly.
Rod found this group annoying, interrupting his sweet moment with Mila. But as they kept throwing him, he couldn't help but laugh along.
Mila watched Rod fly up and down, covering her mouth with a light smile. The long sleeves of the shirt slipped down, adding to her charm and beauty.
They had won.
After defeating a formidable opponent...
...The guild collapsed.
Makalov was delighted to have won the battle without personally intervening, and he cheerfully called everyone back to the guild for a celebration.
The already precarious guild couldn't withstand the commotion, and as the celebration began, pillars and wooden boards began to crack and fall.
The crowd rushed outside, and the first floor walls were now riddled with cracks, while the upper floors tilted at an exaggerated angle.
Although it didn't turn into a complete ruin, it was evident that the building was in critical condition.
This was the epitome of the saying, "Sorrow follows joy."
Makalov sighed in pain, "Let's rebuild later. We'll have the celebration outside."
The celebration for defeating Phantom and the commencement of the guild's reconstruction were perfectly planned.
Rod glanced at the eccentric Guild Master, wondering if his sigh was a lament for having to hold the celebration outside.
The Motor Engine Squad hobbled over, and Levy asked with concern, "Is everyone okay?"
Troy leaned on a crutch, "It seems we arrived too late!"
Jet, with his arm in a cast, added, "The guild is in such a state..."
"Levy, Jet, Troy..." Lucy looked at them apologetically, "I'm sorry..."
Levy hugged her, "It's not your fault, Luce."
Marcus approached Jet, "You guys must have sneaked out of the hospital, right?"
"We wanted to help, but we didn't make it in time."
Gray looked at the injured trio, "You should be resting in the hospital in that condition."
"You're the one wrapped in bandages too!"
"These are injuries from the previous mission! Not from those Phantom scumbags!" Gray felt a bit guilty as he spoke, having been slightly injured by the Four Elements.
"Welcome back." Makalov smiled at the three kids who had escaped from the hospital, "Anyway, let's start the banquet first!"
"Oh!!!"
...
However, the banquet never materialized.
The Enforced Arrest Squad from the Council arrived, citing the Fairy Tail Guild and Phantom's violation of the 'Treaty Prohibiting Armed Conflict'. They demanded both sides submit to an investigation.
As both the Fairy Tail and Phantom headquarters were already damaged, and it was inconvenient to handle matters in the city, the group was taken to the squad's base outside the city.
The Fairy Tail members gathered on one side, while the Phantom members were separated on the other.
Even the unconscious Joseph was carried away, bound, with the considerate addition of magic-sealed stone handcuffs.
The leader of this operation was the familiar Lahar.
Upon arrival, his demeanor was stern, and he seemed determined to severely punish both guilds.
However, once at the base, his attitude improved.
"Call the medical team to treat the injured," Lahar instructed, noticing the high number of casualties. "Send someone to the city hospital to request assistance in the name of the Assembly."
Natsu tugged at Rod's clothes nervously, "We might be sent to prison. Let's think of a way to escape."
Rod pushed him away in disgust, "Don't be ridiculous. If we escape, we'll be held fully responsible."
After a moment's thought, Rod pulled Natsu back, "I estimate it's just a procedure, and at most, we'll get a couple of reprimands...
"Don't cause trouble. I'm thinking of how to minimize our losses. Whether the guild faces an economic crisis depends on the Guild Master's performance."
