Chapter 352: Wood Daoist Arrives Too
Chapter 352: Wood Daoist Arrives Too
There were four beautiful tigresses in the jianghu, and Xue Bing and Jiang Qingxia were two of them, both fond of biting Lu Xiaofeng.
Coincidentally, the other two tigresses shared this peculiar hobby. And not long after Lu Xiaofeng parted ways with Xue Bing in Jinling, he encountered one of them in Shandong, with plenty of days to spare before the duel on the fifteenth of September.
Talk about serendipity, right?
And so, on the morning of the thirteenth of September, Lu Xiaofeng arrived in the capital, just in time to save Li Yanbei, who was on the brink of death.
"How do you ladies manage to be so well-informed?" Lu Xiaofeng asked in exasperation. "And despite the vast distances between you, you're able to communicate as if you were next-door neighbors. Don't you find it troublesome and tedious?"
"Eighth Sister places great importance on news about you," Ouyang Qing explained with a smile. "She's willing to give up ten thousand taels of silver annually just to be kept apprised of which woman you're bedding. What can I do about it?"
Lu Xiaofeng couldn't help but reach into his now-empty pockets. "I wish she'd give that ten thousand taels to me instead. I'd gladly keep her updated on my whereabouts."
Ouyang Qing couldn't hold back her laughter. "What would you like embroidered on your shoes? A rooster, perhaps?"
"Is that allowed?" Lu Xiaofeng's eyes lit up at the idea.
"Unless you cut yourself and turn into a big hen," Ouyang Qing replied nonchalantly.
Lu Xiaofeng fell silent.
Su Shaoying clapped and laughed. "Now that's an idea! Many women in the jianghu would thank you for it."
"Even if I became a monk, I'd never opt for eunuchhood," Lu Xiaofeng huffed. "Monks can return to secular life, but once a eunuch, there's no going back."
"Monks and eunuchs aren't that different," Ouyang Qing said with a smile. "When they come to me, they both end up sitting on the floor all night."
Lu Xiaofeng was speechless. "I know that Monk Honest sought you out, but did you have eunuchs as clients too?"
"Of course," Ouyang Qing chuckled. "Just yesterday afternoon, Wang, the chief eunuch of the imperial palace, visited Yiqing House with several lamas from the Western Regions. Aside from drinking and chatting, they couldn't do much else."
"Monks and eunuchs indeed," Lu Xiaofeng sighed. "I wonder what they were thinking, visiting a brothel."
"They wanted to prove that they're still men, so they were quite generous with their spending," Ouyang Qing explained leisurely. "That's why I have the leisure and funds to go shopping."
The beautiful woman beside Ouyang Qing, who was draped around her arm, giggled. "Ouyang is the pillar of Yiqing House. Those visitors always request her specifically."
"This is my friend, Guan Huihui. She's currently Li Yanbei's concubine," Ouyang Qing introduced her to the group before asking, "Weren't you with Li Yanbei just now? Where is he?"
Lu Xiaofeng raised an eyebrow. "He's already left. He invited us to dinner at his 13th Mansion this evening."
Ouyang Qing's eyes sparkled. "What a coincidence. Guan Huihui lives in Li Yanbei's 13th Mansion."
Guan Huihui was Li Yanbei's thirteenth concubine.
Ouyang Qing turned to Su Shaoying, who nodded. "We'll be there too."
"Alright, it looks like we'll be having dinner at Li Yanbei's mansion tonight," Ouyang Qing said, pulling Guan Huihui along. "In that case, let's go buy some things to prepare."
...
As Ouyang Qing and Guan Huihui walked away, the rest of the group continued on their way.
Zhang Yingfeng looked bewildered, unsure what everyone had been talking about, but he had deduced one thing. "Second Senior Brother, you and this Miss Ouyang..."
"They're part of a secret organization," Ma Xiuzhen said with a hum, offering a vague explanation.
Zhang Yingfeng wisely chose to remain silent. He wasn't foolish, so he asked, "Are we still going shopping then?"
"Of course..."
"You've arrived as expected."
A frail, elderly voice suddenly rang out from the neighboring antique shop, interrupting their conversation. They turned to see a tall, elderly man clad in a tattered blue daoist robe striding towards them, followed by a slender, elderly man in an apricot-yellow robe.
Recognizing them, Lu Xiaofeng smiled. "I knew you'd come too."
"Greetings, Daoist," they said in unison.
"Greetings, Layman," Su Shaoying and the others greeted Wood Daoist and Ancient Pine Layman.
Wood Daoist's eyes shone with approval as he looked at them. "It's impressive that you three turned out so well-refined despite having a hot-tempered master like Dugong Yihe."
"You flatter us, Daoist," Zhang Yingfeng, as the senior disciple, graciously accepted the compliment.
Wood Daoist nodded, then turned to Lu Xiaofeng. "Since you're here, I couldn't miss this opportunity. After all, a duel between two peerless swordsmen like Ye Gucheng and Ximen Chuixue is not to be missed."
"Are you hoping to spot some flaws in their swordplay and challenge them to a duel?" Lu Xiaofeng asked nonchalantly.
In the realm of swordplay, none could surpass Ye Gucheng and Ximen Chuixue in terms of finesse and purity of their art. However, their path was not one that others could easily follow.
Thus, there were no swordsmen in the capital who could rival them. Take Dugong Yihe, for example, or Stone Yan from Wudang, or Baxian Small Gu Daoist from Bashan—even if they were present, it would be of no use, as witnessing the duel wouldn't benefit them in any way.
Moreover, the duel between these two extraordinary swordsmen was not meant to be witnessed by others, so it would be rather awkward and offensive for swordsmen of their caliber to show up uninvited.
Wood Daoist was the only peerless swordsman in the capital who could match them, and he had indeed arrived.
Lu Xiaofeng couldn't help but suspect that he had an ulterior motive.
Su Shaoying could also be counted as one, but Lu Xiaofeng subconsciously ignored him because the young man wore his intentions on his sleeve.
However, Wood Daoist didn't seem bothered by the implication at all. He merely sighed and said, "I'm already old. I have no desire to seek duels with others or compete in drinking contests. If someone wants to play chess with me, I'd be happy to oblige."
Before Lu Xiaofeng could respond, Ancient Pine Layman interjected, "Actually, we're looking for you as well."
Lu Xiaofeng blinked. "What for?"
Wood Daoist and Ancient Pine Layman had made an appointment with someone, and they invited Lu Xiaofeng to join them, maintaining an air of mystery about the matter.
Su Shaoying, of course, knew that Wood Daoist had arranged to meet with Lord Sun, the grandson of the turtle. According to the original story, after asking a few questions, Lord Sun would be killed just as Lu Xiaofeng was about to inquire about Du Tongxuan's bodyguard identity.
Having already ensured the safety of Gongsun Daniang, Su Shaoying saw no issue with doing the same for Lord Sun.
Although Lord Sun was old, ugly, crazy, and his death wouldn't stir much emotion, Su Shaoying didn't mind lending a helping hand since it was convenient. After all...
He had already crossed swords with Ye Gucheng, placing them on opposing sides, and he didn't mind causing them a little more trouble to see how they would rectify the situation.
So Su Shaoying suddenly asked, "Can I come too?"
Wood Daoist smiled and replied, "Of course!"
