Chapter 352: Life Mission Rewards
Chapter 352: Life Mission Rewards
【Disciple Uchiha Obito and Kakashi Hatake worked hard to complete the commissioned mission, gaining a growth reward of +680 chakra. An additional reward of +340 chakra is given for the teacher's personal guidance.】
【Disciple Uchiha Obito's strength has increased, his reputation has risen, and his experience has grown. The probability of becoming the Hokage has slightly increased. He has gained a progress reward of +1000 chakra, a Bloodline Advancement Scroll, and Fire Style: Dragon Flame Song Technique (Mastery Level).】
In the evening, Mu Yue returned home and began to sort through the rewards from the mission.
First were the growth rewards from the mission; the two disciples together earned a total of 1,020, which was within Mu Yue's expectations. After all, the disciples didn't have much presence during the mission, and if it weren't for him finally unleashing the tempest at the end, they might not have received this much.
Then it was time for Obito's first life mission settlement.
【Name: Uchiha Obito】
【Life Mission: It's not that one must become a Hokage to gain everyone's recognition, but rather that one must be recognized by everyone to become a Hokage.】
【Main Objective: Become the Hokage of Konoha】
【Mission Progress: 12.3%】
Before the start of the mission, Mu Yue had checked Obito's life mission progress, which was at 9.8%. Mu Yue had expected it to reach 10%, but before their departure, he hadn't anticipated the tempest that was already plotting to usurp the throne, turning their mission to protect the princess into one of quelling the rebellion.
The rewards from the first settlement only heightened Mu Yue's anticipation for the subsequent ones. At just 10% progress, Obito had received a mastery-level skill and a Bloodline Advancement Scroll, an incredible item. Surely, the rewards would only get better as the progress percentage increased.
Mu Yue clicked on the Bloodline Advancement Scroll, undoubtedly the best of the three rewards and something that couldn't be obtained under normal circumstances.
Soon, a selection box appeared on the panel.
【Enhancement Options: Byakugan】
Mu Yue fell into deep thought. He had once received a reward that increased the purity of his Byakugan, so perhaps these two rewards were somewhat similar? However, one could only enhance the Byakugan, while the other allowed for a choice.
Mu Yue selected the only option—the Byakugan. He was quite satisfied with his Byakugan, so he didn't plan on saving this reward for later use.
As he used the scroll, a strange sensation arose within Mu Yue's body.
Due to his connection with the Transparent World, Mu Yue had an intimate understanding of his physical self, and he instantly sensed a benign yet unknown change occurring within him.
The most noticeable effect, to Mu Yue, was a slight increase in his chakra limit. Upon checking his panel, he found that it had increased by a thousand.
【Name: Mu Yue Yu Sheng】
【Chakra: 84,300】
Mu Yue suddenly recalled something and immediately spent some chakra to create a shadow clone before refining chakra again.
As he began the refinement process, a smile appeared on Mu Yue's face. His chakra recovery rate had increased! This improvement far outweighed the increase in his total chakra. Mu Yue made a rough comparison and found that it had gone up by a quarter.
Although the chakra recovery rate still didn't quite match his total chakra, it was much better than before.
Next, Mu Yue activated his Byakugan and looked around, spotting Tsunade walking with Shizune. After estimating the distance, he realized that his field of vision had expanded significantly.
Following the sensation in his mind, Mu Yue channeled more chakra into his Byakugan and then looked at the glass on his desk.
As he infused chakra, a formidable aura rose from Mu Yue, and under his intense gaze, cracks quickly appeared on the glass before it shattered.
Mu Yue wore a thoughtful expression. Ordinary Hyuga clan members didn't possess such an ability with their Byakugan, and he felt that he was evolving towards the Otsutsuki clan's Byakugan.
However, Mu Yue felt that he still had a long way to go. For instance, the new ability he had just discovered—the amount of chakra he had spent on the Byakugan could have been used to punch through a rock with his fist. Compared to abilities like long-distance clairvoyance, the cost-effectiveness of this new ability was rather low.
Aside from the system rewards, Mu Yue also had some practical gains, such as two Chakra Battle Armors. One was the set worn by the leader of the Snow Ninja, and the other was from the Snow Ninja Village's laboratory.
Unfortunately, the Chakra Battle Armors weren't as effective as he had hoped. When Mu Yue tried them on, he found that they offered little enhancement to his abilities unless he intentionally used very little chakra to perform ninjutsu. He planned to study the Snow Ninja's data and experiment on his own to see if he could create the external power source he desired.
Mu Yue had considered handing over the Chakra Battle Armors to Konoha for research, as they would undoubtedly make faster progress than he could alone.
However, there was a problem. While the Chakra Battle Armors were useless to him, they could enhance the abilities of a regular Jonin or even an elite Jonin. Moreover, the special ore used to create them was only found in the Land of Snow, and even their supply was limited.
If he disclosed this information, Mu Yue wasn't sure what Danzo would do. He didn't believe that Danzo would willingly spend a large sum to purchase them, especially with the ongoing Shinobi World War and Konoha's various expenses.
If this information reached the rest of the ninja world, the Land of Snow would undoubtedly be in grave danger. Cloud, a country close to the Land of Snow, was known for its propensity for theft.
Considering these potential consequences, Mu Yue decided to conduct his own research for the time being. He had obtained a substantial amount of ore from Fuuka Hayayuki, enough to sustain his research for a long while.
Aside from the Chakra Battle Armors and some other insignificant rewards from the Land of Snow, Mu Yue also received some excellent rewards from Konoha. He looked at the three scrolls on his desk.
Although Mu Yue had only requested the Flying Thunder God Technique, Hiruzen Sarutobi had given him three ninjutsu scrolls. The other two techniques were water-style jutsu—Hard Vortex Water Blade and Heavenly Tears. The water-style scroll also included training tips written by Tobirama Senju.
According to Hiruzen Sarutobi, these extra rewards were because of Mu Yue's significant contributions to the Ninja Academy.
While learning these jutsu wouldn't greatly enhance his abilities, Mu Yue was still pleased to have them, especially since they were essentially free.
Having acquired the Flying Thunder God Technique, Mu Yue spent the rest of the evening studying it instead of working on seals or developing breathing techniques.
"Is the Flying Thunder God Technique too difficult, or do I lack the talent for space-time ninjutsu?" Mu Yue wondered, holding the scroll.
For Mu Yue, the most important thing was to get a grasp of the basics. However, even after practicing all evening, he didn't see any signs of the technique's proficiency level appearing on his panel.
Before falling asleep, he read through the scroll a few more times. Obito and the others had also practiced breathing techniques for several days without any signs of proficiency, so it wasn't unusual for more complex ninjutsu to take longer to master.
Mu Yue set himself a deadline. For the next ten days, he would dedicate all his free time to learning the Flying Thunder God Technique. If he still didn't see any progress after ten days, he would allocate a third of his time to practicing it. If there was still no improvement after a month, he would give up on it entirely.
"Teacher Mu Yue, I didn't get anything dirty, did I?" Hanabi Hyuga lowered her head to check her clothes.
"No, you don't need to be so nervous. We've met before, haven't we?" Mu Yue replied with a smile.
While testing his Byakugan's capabilities, he had unexpectedly discovered that Tsunade had returned to the village. To facilitate Hanabi's growth, Mu Yue decided to ask Tsunade to teach her for a period of time.
Although he possessed the Teaching skill that accelerated his disciples' learning speed, Mu Yue was, after all, just a transmigrator. There was much medical knowledge in the ninja world that he was unaware of, and in this regard, Tsunade, as the current strongest medical ninja in the ninja world, was far ahead of him.
"After all, it's Lady Tsunade." Hanabi heaved a sigh of relief at Mu Yue's reassurance and then wore a yearning expression.
Tsunade truly was Hanabi's ideal self—possessing formidable medical ninjutsu while also having exceptional combat capabilities, ensuring she wouldn't be a burden in battles.
Even before she met Mu Yue, Hanabi had greatly admired Tsunade, so even though she had already dined with Mu Yue and Tsunade together, Hanabi still felt a bit nervous.
"If all goes well, you'll be able to see her often for quite some time." Mu Yue said with a beaming smile.
Hanabi nodded eagerly, her face full of anticipation. Although she liked Mu Yue a lot, learning from her idol was a different feeling altogether.
Mu Yue skillfully led Hanabi to Tsunade's residence.
"Lady Tsunade, are you home?" Mu Yue asked as he knocked on the door.
The door was soon opened, but it wasn't Tsunade who stood there; it was Shizune.
"Teacher Mu Yue." Shizune's face lit up with surprise as she greeted Mu Yue.
Mu Yue responded with a gentle smile and nodded. He then noticed Tsunade, sprawled out on the sofa without a care for her image.
"Did Lady Tsunade work late last night? She looks so tired," Hanabi said, her eyes filled with concern as she peered inside.
"Er... well..." Shizune hesitated but ultimately decided to put in a good word for Tsunade.
She felt that this way, both sides would be happy—Tsunade's pride would be preserved, and Hanabi wouldn't be disillusioned by her idol.
"You're back from your mission. I was just thinking about having some beggar's chicken today," Tsunade said, ordering her desired meal.
After returning from the Fire Country's capital, she hadn't even gone back to her own home but had directly brought Shizune to look for Mu Yue, only to find that he had gone out on a mission.
"Beggar's chicken is fine. I'll have my shadow clone go buy the ingredients later," Mu Yue agreed and then led Hanabi to sit on the sofa next to Tsunade.
Hanabi's presence didn't prompt Tsunade to change her posture; she remained lying on the sofa with her limbs spread out, having long stopped caring about her image.
"As expected of Lady Tsunade, still working tirelessly even with your current status," Hanabi said, her mind painting a picture of Tsunade working through the night.
Shizune quickly prepared tea and served it to the three of them.
"Lady Tsunade, do you remember what we discussed before?" Mu Yue took the teacup, thanked Shizune, and then brought up Hanabi's learning situation.
"About her studying with me for a while, right?" Tsunade recalled and replied.
Mu Yue had mentioned it to her when the Chunin Exams ended, but she had been busy at the time, so it was postponed.
"Let me see what level she's at first, from what you've taught her," Tsunade didn't immediately agree but instead slightly adjusted her posture and asked Shizune to catch a live fish from the yard.
Tsunade then casually took out a kunai and made a narrow, long incision on the fish's body before placing it in front of Hanabi.
"Try healing it with your medical ninjutsu," Tsunade said, crossing her arms.
Hanabi nodded and extended her hands, from which green healing light soon blossomed. With the Palm Mystic Healing Technique, the fish's wound rapidly healed, leaving no scar at all as if it had never been injured.
But Tsunade's test didn't end there; she proceeded to test Hanabi's detoxification abilities and the limits of her healing.
The consecutive tests exhausted a significant amount of Hanabi's chakra, and she panted slightly, her heart filled with apprehension. She didn't know if her performance would meet Tsunade's expectations.
She had only become a ninja a few months ago and had been learning with Mu Yue all this time, never interacting with other medical ninjas. Thus, she wasn't sure if her current level was average or excellent compared to her peers.
"Hanabi has excellent talent in medical ninjutsu and has been working hard in her studies," Mu Yue praised after the tests concluded.
Hanabi's confidence grew, and she unconsciously looked at Tsunade.
"It's evident. It's rare to see someone of your age with such proficiency in medical ninjutsu," Tsunade acknowledged Hanabi's skills.
When it came to medical ninjutsu, Tsunade believed that no one in the ninja world could surpass her understanding.
Moreover, Tsunade had taught others before, so she could easily make a comparison. She had been teaching Shizune medical ninjutsu for almost a year now, but Shizune's current level in medical ninjutsu was inferior to Hanabi's.
Shizune and Hanabi had graduated from the Ninja Academy in the same term, and this situation could generally be attributed to two possibilities: either Hanabi had exceptional talent in medical ninjutsu, or Mu Yue was a better teacher than her.
If it were before she met Mu Yue, Tsunade would have definitely attributed it to Hanabi's extraordinary talent. But now, Tsunade couldn't be so sure.
Hanabi couldn't help but reveal a delighted smile; being praised by her idol was truly exhilarating.
"Right, you should have also learned the Strength of a Hundred Technique from Mu Yue. Let me see that as well," Tsunade recalled Hanabi's performance during the Chunin Exams and requested.
Hanabi readily agreed, but the Strength of a Hundred Technique wasn't suitable to be used inside the house, so they all went to the yard.
Under Tsunade's watchful gaze, Hanabi took a deep breath and concentrated her chakra in her hands before unleashing it in a burst.
Boom!
The ground that Hanabi struck directly cracked, and within a four-meter radius, the ground was covered in fissures.
Shizune's mouth hung open slightly. This was the first time she had witnessed the destructive power of the Strength of a Hundred Technique; Tsunade had never demonstrated it in front of her.
The impact was too strong. Despite having a similar build, Hanabi had managed to shatter the ground with her punch.
"Good job, Mu Yue. It's exactly the same as my Strength of a Hundred Technique," Tsunade said, raising an eyebrow.
Hanabi didn't quite understand why Tsunade suddenly brought up Mu Yue, and she stood there, perplexed.
However, Tsunade's appetite was truly something else, and Mu Yue quickly caught on, asking directly, "Just tell me what you want to eat."
"Add a plate of spicy chicken for tonight!" Tsunade replied without hesitation.
