Chapter 351: The Proper Way for a Mage to Start a Fight (Third Update)
Chapter 351: The Proper Way for a Mage to Start a Fight (Third Update)
"Venerable One, I believe that if Carmen has come to Kamar-Taj to exchange and learn, personally experiencing Kamar-Taj's magic would be beneficial for future exchanges!"
Unlike the others, Kasliyas was not intimidated by the Ancient One's displeasure. Instead, he spoke with a casual indifference.
He had come to Kamar-Taj to find the magic that could grant eternal life and resurrect his deceased wife and child, but the Ancient One had never taught him that kind of magic.
Kasliyas suspected that perhaps the Ancient One thought he was not yet worthy, which was why she had held back.
Now, he was determined to prove to the Ancient One that he, Kasliyas, was the most outstanding and even more promising mage than she.
"Kasliyas, let me say this again, this is not a good decision!"
The Ancient One's tone grew even more stern.
Perhaps understanding the Ancient One's temperament, Kasliyas did not back down. Instead, he turned to Carmen:
"Carmen, what do you think?"
"I think you're looking for a fight!"
Jerry inwardly sneered, but on the surface, he maintained a friendly smile and said:
"Of course not, I actually enjoy exchanging magical insights with other mages. Many mages who have exchanged with me have not only gained new perspectives on magic but also on life."
Was he a good-tempered person? Certainly not. Moreover, since he planned to stay in Kamar-Taj for a while to exchange and learn magic, he needed to display some of his own strength appropriately.
Otherwise, similar incidents might happen again.
Besides, he was genuinely curious to see what Kamar-Taj's magic was all about.
"Alright, but I hope it's just an exchange!"
Seeing that Jerry agreed and that more and more mages were gathering, even her other disciple, Mordo, had walked over, the Ancient One could only leave a final warning.
Actually, she was not worried that Kasliyas would hurt Jerry. Her main concern was that her most talented and favored disciple, who had always had a smooth journey at Kamar-Taj, might suffer a severe blow to his ego.
But then again, perhaps a bit of a setback would make Kasliyas less arrogant.
"All mages, move to the sides and clear the training ground in the middle!"
Seeing that the Ancient One had approved the exchange, Mordo immediately directed the apprentice mages to clear the central training ground, which would serve as the arena for Kasliyas and Jerry's magical duel.
"Kasliyas, please!"
Jerry greeted his opponent and, with a graceful and composed stride, took his position on the opposite end of the training ground.
Kasliyas, on the other hand, wore a slight sneer as he faced Jerry.
Although he had only been studying magic for three years, his talent had already brought him to a level of magical power that rivaled Mordo and Wong, the two most powerful mages in Kamar-Taj after the Ancient One.
How could a young wild mage, who looked to be around seventeen or eighteen, be his match?
"Kasliyas, show him who's boss!"
Even before the battle began, many of the mages in the audience were already cheering for Kasliyas.
As someone who had broken multiple records and proven his magical prowess within three years, Kasliyas held a high status among many of the apprentice mages. Some were even his loyal fans or followers.
And Jerry Carmen, an outsider mage, a rogue wizard who did not belong to Kamar-Taj, how could he possibly be a match for the powerful Mage Kasliyas, even with a few tricks up his sleeve?
"Spatial Blade!"
Kasliyas extended his hands, and an invisible, formless blade, shaped by the laws of space, materialized in his grasp.
Then, with the invisible Spatial Blade in hand, Kasliyas swiftly launched an attack on Jerry.
A hallmark of Kamar-Taj mages in battle is to engage in close combat whenever possible, rather than waste mana on ranged attacks. Kasliyas had mastered this approach.
However, Jerry's fighting style was different.
"Shadow!"
He pulled out his wand and waved it lightly. The shadow beneath Kasliyas's feet suddenly came to life, grabbing the mage's legs as he ran.
Being suddenly caught by the legs while running would certainly send anyone sprawling.
But Kasliyas, currently the most talented mystic mage in Kamar-Taj after the Ancient One, reacted swiftly. Just as he was about to fall, he braced his left hand on the ground and swiftly slashed at the shadow with the Spatial Blade in his right hand.
"Rip!"
The sound of tearing filled the air as the shadow was cut in two, and Kasliyas quickly stood up again. Without a moment's hesitation, he threw the Spatial Blade like a projectile at Jerry to prevent the mage from using further magic.
Although Jerry couldn't see the Spatial Blade in Kasliyas's hand, he was well aware of the throwing motion and the spatial disturbance it caused.
So he waved his wand again, casting an enhanced Ironclad Charm to block the Spatial Blade.
"You've got some skills!"
Seeing the serious expression on Kasliyas's face, Jerry didn't initiate an attack. Instead, he waved his wand and smiled.
"Mage Kasliyas, please continue!"
"Underestimating me!"
Seeing Jerry's calm and composed demeanor, Kasliyas felt insulted. He immediately summoned two Spatial Blades in his hands.
Then, with a quick tap of his feet, he leaped into the air and began sprinting toward Jerry while airborne.
"Valto's Boots of Leaping!"
The apprentice mages below gasped in unison as they watched Kasliyas leap and move through the air.
"Leaping magic? No, it looks like an enchanted item with leaping magic!"
Jerry stroked his chin, using his magic power to instantly discern the source of Kasliyas's ability.
Kamar-Taj mages also needed to use incantations and gestures to cast spells. With both hands occupied by the Spatial Blades, Kasliyas couldn't cast a new spell.
So, the leaping magic was clearly activated by the magic shoes on his feet when he tapped them together.
"To avoid being ensnared by shadow magic again and to engage in close combat, preventing me from casting spells. Your combat awareness and adaptability are impressive, but your imagination is lacking. Wind!"
Jerry waved his wand, and a gust of green wind shot out, blowing Kasliyas, who was about to strike from above, backward.
He was sent flying and landed heavily on the roof of the hall above.
"Sorry, I used a bit too much force!"
Jerry gave the Ancient One a slightly apologetic look.
At that moment, Kasliyas's angry incantation echoed from the roof.
"Mirror Space!"
