Chapter 351: No One Understands Warriors Better Than Me
Chapter 351: No One Understands Warriors Better Than Me
"Kas!"
Kuro roared into the Transponder Snail, his voice echoing through the office. "Why haven't you returned yet? What slithering crap are you up to out there?"
After waiting for days without news of Kas's return, Kuro could no longer contain his frustration. His eyelid had been twitching all day, a visceral warning that something felt off. He feared that hotheaded idiot with the wild beard was stirring trouble again.
The Transponder Snail crackled with guttural screams and the wet sound of slaughter.
The now-bearded snail barked back, its voice accompanied by the sickening thok of blades burying into flesh: "Commander Kuro, we're eliminating pirates who breached our Jurisdictional Waters! Have no worries—we'll ensure the safety of Pegasus Island and the Twin-Horse Kingdom!"
What could Kuro say?
Nothing.
He couldn't exactly order them to stop fighting—how could he discourage his subordinates from protecting peace? That wasn't what a Xian Yu did.
"Carry on, then."
Kuro pressed the receiver, ending the call with a grimace.
For a moment, he felt the absurd sensation of "the front lines in chaos while the rear feasts in peace."
"Kuro", Lida drawled, crunching a potato chip between her teeth, "don't you think Kas is taking too long to deal with those pirates? Should I go check?"
"Let Klah handle it."
Kuro leaned back, his expression thoughtful. "I'll trust Klah to rein in that idiot Kas and keep him from doing anything reckless."
If not for his recent promotion to Commodore triggering this suffocating sense of duty, he'd have gone himself to sink those pirates into the sea. That would’ve solved everything quickly.
But this was a task he could delegate to Klah or Lida—not to Kas.
That hotheaded idiot would definitely report him for interference.
"Bring Klah back. He's been socializing with locals too much lately, slacking on training. With Kas away, he's the Navy base's chief instructor. He shouldn't be loafing around all day."
Lida rolled her eyes.
You have no right to talk.
Like superior, like subordinate. Spending time with Kuro had already made them all less Xian Yu-like. Kas was the real anomaly.
"Fine, I'll go."
As Lida stood, the door creaked open. Klah strode in unannounced.
"Perfect timing, Klah—"
Kuro began, but his words died when he noticed two figures trailing behind Klah.
"Ju Geng auntie!"
Lida sprang up, her chip forgotten as she raced forward to tackle Ju Geng in a hug. "You finally came! Did you change your mind about joining the Navy? I've been dying to taste your cooking again!"
"My, Lidamiss", Ju Geng chuckled, ruffling Lida's hair.
Lida didn't flinch—Ju Geng was both a woman she deeply admired and an unparalleled culinary genius.
"Wait, this person..." Lida finally released Ju Geng, her gaze falling on the middle-aged man gripping a cross spear. "You look familiar!"
"Long time no see." The man stepped forward. "I'm Donald. I—"
"Stop!" Lida's white fur bristled. She raised a hand, cutting him off.
The eccentric chatterbox who'd tried avenging his master on Moe Island—the one Kuro had slashed with his Momentum Blade.
"You again? What do you want this time?"
Kuro's brow lifted as recognition dawned. He remembered that peculiar spear-wielder—one of the few who'd made him test a new technique.
"Commander Kuro!"
Donald stepped forward, inhaling sharply before lowering his cross spear and collapsing to his knees. He prostrated himself in a full dogeza, his voice thunderous: "Please allow me to study under you!"
"Study under me?"
Kuro blinked.
"Exactly!" Donald raised his head, eyes blazing. "That blade of yours—whenever I recall it, I still feel its overwhelming aura. I must learn that technique! It’s the burning desire of every warrior! I’ll do anything for this chance! Let me join the Navy! I don’t need you to teach me—I just want to be near you, to watch you fight!"
The raw hunger in Donald’s gaze actually startled Kuro.
He’d seen strong men and those desperate for power before, but this pure, unfiltered warrior’s passion? This was new.
Kuro understood that craving all too well.
Once, he’d been consumed by his own obsession with strength—a need for safety in a world that had felt utterly alien and dangerous. Back then, he’d thrown himself into mad training sessions, much like Donald’s current fervor.
Only when he hit a plateau and realized endless training wouldn’t push him further had he tempered that madness.
Now, with threats like Akainu, Kuzan, Lucius Kro, Kaido, and Big Mom dominating the seas, Kuro knew he still lagged behind the absolute elite. These titans combined supreme mastery of Haki, unarmed combat, Devil Fruit abilities, and swordsmanship. For warriors at his level, even the smallest gap could become an unbridgeable chasm in a prolonged clash.
"Commander Kuro!"
Donald’s plea snapped Kuro from his thoughts. "Please, grant me this chance! Let me join the Navy!"
Kuro studied the kneeling man.
"Joining the Navy isn’t my decision alone—pass the screening, and anyone can enlist. I’d never stop someone from serving. If you’re serious, go through the official channels."
Donald’s skills could bolster Kuro’s forces. Perhaps he could replace Sazil—who, while reliable, lacked stability. Having Donald work with Kas might finally ease Kuro’s recent headaches.
