Chapter 351: My Eyes, Foretelling the Future
Chapter 351: My Eyes, Foretelling the Future
In a certain casino, at a poker table laden with towering stacks of chips, two men sat facing each other. One was a burly, bearded man donning a captain's hat, his formidable stature resembling a mountain of flesh. Across from him sat a much smaller figure with pale skin and eyes that glinted with a subtle golden hue. Within those eyes, a clock seemed to materialize, and a faint smile played at the corner of his mouth.
"My apologies, friend," the bearded man said, picking up his drink and gulping down the yellow beer. He then continued, his mouth stretching wide, "The cards on the table before you are three 7s and a K. The fact that you called my bet of two million with a K in the second round indicates that you must have had a pair of Ks. Your hand must have been a 7-K straight..."
As he spoke, he flipped over his own cards, revealing a 3 of diamonds. Together with the other cards on the table, he had four 3s and an Ace—a formidable hand in a game of poker.
"Oh wow, four of a kind!" exclaimed the onlookers gathered around the table. It was a rare occurrence to witness such a hand in a game of poker; it was the kind of hand that players might not encounter even after years of playing.
And just as the bearded man had deduced, with that hand, he had won.
There was no way Feng Ye could have had four 7s. If he did, he would have had the 7 and the K in the first round and wouldn't have called the bet of two million.
Feng Ye's hidden card could only have been a K or an A; only with an initial pair of AK or KK would he have dared to call the bet of two million berries and continue raising until the end.
The bearded man, his mouth agape, stood up to collect his winnings.
"No need to rush," Feng Ye said calmly. He took a sip of wine from the nearby wine glass and gently patted Robin, who was sitting beside him, on her head. With a casual flip, he revealed his hidden card—the 7 of clubs.
7777! Four of a kind!
The bearded man froze, his expression rigid with shock, as did the onlookers, their faces mirroring his astonishment. They stared at the revealed card, their disbelief evident.
"Four... four 7s?!''
"Impossible!!"
The bearded man's eyes widened further, and he lunged forward, incredulous. He snatched up Feng Ye's card and scrutinized it, crumpling it in his grip. But indeed, it was the 7 of clubs.
Feng Ye stood up, a smile playing on his lips. "Robin, collect the money. We're leaving."
Robin exhaled and rose to her feet. She picked up the nearby box and swiftly gathered the chips from the table, filling the box to the brim. Carrying the box with both hands, she followed Feng Ye toward the chip exchange counter.
The bearded man was left standing there, still clutching his cards, unable to process what had just happened.
He spun around, his gaze fixed on Feng Ye. "This is impossible! There's no way you could have called my bet of two million that round! It defies logic! No one would bet like that! Why?!"
All eyes in the room turned to Feng Ye, including Robin, who was walking beside him, carrying the box of chips.
Although she didn't understand gambling, her keen intellect had allowed her to grasp the basic rules after observing just a couple of rounds. Even she could sense that Feng Ye's betting strategy was peculiar.
And most crucially, as she had been sitting right next to Feng Ye, she could see his cards. She was certain he hadn't cheated in any way. In fact, aside from glancing at his cards at the very beginning, he hadn't touched them at all throughout the entire game! And it was unlikely that the dealer was colluding with him.
...
One box of chips was exchanged for two large boxes of cash.
A total of 224 million berries! Feng Ye had originally intended to win only 20 million and leave, but while betting on dice rolls, he guessed correctly seven times in a row, attracting the attention of the casino. They were then invited to the VIP area, where the previous scene unfolded.
"The future..."
As they exited the casino, Robin's gaze flickered slightly as she asked Feng Ye, "Mister, can you really see into the future?"
Feng Ye's previous statement would likely be dismissed by the other gamblers as mere bravado from a big winner. But Robin felt that there might be more to it.
"Seeing the future is actually quite boring," Feng Ye explained with a light smile. "Knowing everything that will happen takes away the excitement. That's why I usually don't use this ability."
The two left the casino and continued walking forward. Before they knew it, the streets had become deserted, with not a soul in sight.
Robin stopped in her tracks and turned to look around. From the alleys on all sides, figures emerged—nearly twenty of them, all holding firearms, their gazes cold as they focused on the pair.
The one leading them was robust, wearing a captain's hat and sporting a bushy brown beard. His beard was braided into three strands that hung down from his chin, and he held a pistol in each hand.
"Child of the Devil, Nico Robin... I'm pretty sure I've got the right person?"
Brownbeard eyed Feng Ye and Robin, a sneer twisting his lips. "But I'm not interested in your bounty; I can't claim it anyway. I'm Brownbeard, a notorious pirate with a bounty of 40 million berries! Hand over all your money!"
Feng Ye acted as if he hadn't noticed Brownbeard and the others. He continued walking forward, his gaze deep as he spoke to Robin.
"The future is not set in stone; it is ever-changing."
"Everyone has the power to choose, but once a choice is made and the future becomes the present, their future is determined. This is because most people lack the power to change the 'present.'"
Feng Ye's actions and words caused Brownbeard to furrow his brow in confusion. Before he could react further to Feng Ye's strange behavior, the young man continued walking towards him. With a cold huff, Brownbeard gave up on trying to make sense of Feng Ye and aimed his pistol at him.
"If you want to die, I'll grant your wish!"
"You brats!"
Bang! Bang! Bang!!!
At Brownbeard's command, over a dozen pirates in the vicinity crouched down, taking aim at Feng Ye and firing their guns simultaneously.
The barrage of bullets came at Feng Ye like a tempest, each black projectile seeming to bear the intent to turn his body into a sieve.
But.
The bullets couldn't seem to touch Feng Ye.
About a foot away from his body, the black bullets froze in mid-air as if they had hit an invisible wall, unable to advance any further.
