Chapter 350: Versus Adeku!
Chapter 350: Versus Adeku!
"Hello, I'm Naoki. It's an honor to meet you," Naoki said as he approached Adeku and greeted him politely.
Adeku's initial surprise gradually faded, and he returned the greeting with equal courtesy: "Hello."
The short Nemmie jumped excitedly beside them, shouting, "Battle! Battle! Battle!"
Adeku turned to her and smiled at her enthusiasm. "Do you like Pokemon battles too?"
Nemmie nodded vigorously, her mouth stretching wide to reveal a mouthful of white teeth. "Yes! I can't battle you yet, but Mr. Naoki will battle you on my behalf!"
The thought of a championship-level battle was thrilling.
Adeku's face broke into a smile, and he turned to Naoki, his tone casual as he asked, "Would you like to battle me?"
"Is that alright?" Naoki nodded shyly. Adeku didn't seem as stern and unapproachable as he looked.
"Of course," Adeku said, his gaze shifting to the red Pokemon by Naoki's side. "Is it also a Dragon-type Pokemon?"
Coming from a family of Dragon Tamers, Adeku had a unique affinity for Dragon-type Pokemon.
"Yes, this is Garchomp," Naoki introduced his companion.
"I knew it!" Adeku exclaimed. "It must be an incredibly strong Pokemon. Then, Dragon Master Adeku, I accept your challenge!"
"I'll be the referee!" Nemmie immediately raised her small hand high and dashed ahead, leading the way for the two challengers.
Naoki couldn't help but smile. He followed Adeku, with Nemmie leading the way to the previous battle arena.
Such was the way of Pokemon trainers; even strangers could engage in thrilling battles as long as they identified themselves as fellow trainers.
Nemmie took the small flag from the banquet server and stood in the center of the battle arena, mimicking the tone of a referee as she announced: "Next, we have a Pokemon battle between Mr. Adeku, the Dragon King of Kanto, and Mr. Naoki from the Pasio region!"
"The rules for this battle are 6v6. Each trainer can only use six Pokemon, and the battle will end when all of one trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle!"
The commotion drew the attention of the surrounding trainers who had been chatting leisurely.
When Adeku, Kikuro, and Nicholas arrived, they saw Naoki already standing in the battle arena with Adeku.
Adeku exclaimed in surprise, "Oh? It's starting already?"
Kikuro took an interested glance at the red-haired young man. "That's Adeku, the Champion of Kanto, isn't it?"
Nicholas looked at Nemmie, who was jumping around the field like a Chimchar, and sighed. "This girl is so energetic."
Adeku, still mindful of their purpose, pointed at Naoki and introduced him to the others. "This is Naoki. Thanks to him, my Volcarona was able to receive treatment in time."
At his words, Kikuro and Nicholas turned their curious gazes toward Naoki.
They saw a tall, handsome young man with black hair, standing alongside his red Pokemon.
Nicholas didn't understand Pokemon battles, but he was intrigued by the electronic device called a "phone."
Kikuro, on the other hand, showed a keen interest. Any trainer who earned Adeku's praise was surely someone extraordinary!
In the arena, after Nemmie finished explaining the rules, she suddenly turned to Adeku with excitement in her voice. "Mr. Adeku, don't underestimate your opponent! Don't hold back just because Mr. Naoki isn't famous! He's just like you, very skilled with Dragon-type Pokemon! He has lots and lots of Noiverns on his ranch too!"
Naoki: "...” Nemmie was practically spilling all his secrets.
Upon hearing this, Adeku's expression turned to one of surprise. He looked at Naoki with a newfound seriousness and replied to Nemmie, "Thank you for the reminder. I will give it my all."
"Hehe!" Nemmie flashed a clever smile and then made the official announcement. "The first battle will now begin!"
Naoki, who had only wanted to compare Noiverns with Adeku: "...”
Clearly, that wasn't going to be possible now.
Nemmie, the little trickster, must have wanted to see more exciting battles between top-tier champions, so she set the rules for a 6v6 format.
Naoki sighed inwardly.
But it didn't matter!
Since he was here, he might as well give it his all! He would draw on his past life's experience and the Pokemon's hard work!
With that thought, Naoki's eyes gradually took on a determined gleam.
In the first round, Adeku might not necessarily send out his ace Pokemon, Noivern.
Naoki wasn't familiar with Adeku's Pokemon, but after a moment's thought, he decided to let Pupitar take the field first and test the waters.
On the right stood a formidable Gyarados, its menacing face twisted into a savage expression.
On the left, a cute and cuddly Budew with pink fur, holding an inconspicuous little hammer, and wearing a red cape, stood ready.
The onlooking trainers gasped in surprise at this unexpected sight.
"What kind of Pokemon is that? It's so adorable, and is that a weapon in its hand?" one trainer asked, intrigued.
Another trainer's face contorted in disbelief as he exclaimed, "A Budew from the Pasio region? No! How is that possible?"
"What do you mean?" someone asked hastily.
The man explained, "As far as I know, a typical Budew has yellow fur like Pikachu, and it doesn't have any sort of cape or use weapons. More importantly, a normal Budew can't fly!"
The gathered trainers were no novices; they immediately understood the implication of these words and directed astonished gazes at the unusual Budew.
"There it is! Mr. Naoki's ace, Budew!" Nemmie cried out.
On the battlefield, Naoki and Adeku issued commands almost simultaneously.
"Gyarados, Dragon Rage!"
"Budew, Thunder Shock!"
Gyarados roared, its body surging with Dragon-type energy that transformed into a terrifying tornado, sweeping towards Budew.
Budew's red cape fluttered wildly in the wind, but it nimbly shifted its stance, skillfully dodging the tornado. Then, with its left hand, it created a ball of crackling electric energy and threw it at Gyarados.
Gyarados' massive size made it impossible to avoid the Thunder Shock, which moved at incredible speed.
The super-effective Thunder Shock heavily damaged Gyarados.
Adeku's brow furrowed slightly as he realized the type disadvantage.
He had never seen this Pokemon before, and from its previous performance, it seemed to have an advantage in speed. Additionally, its small size made it difficult to hit unless using a wide-range move.
After a moment's thought, Adeku decided to switch from offense to defense to observe the opponent's tactics further. "Gyarados, stay alert and maintain your guard!" he instructed.
Naoki, however, continued his aggressive strategy. "Dragon Breath!" he called out.
"Ba-mu!" Budew responded.
Budew's body surged with crackling electricity, and it brandished its tiny hammer as it charged towards Gyarados.
"Waterfall!" Adeku commanded, attempting to stop the opponent's advance.
At the command, Gyarados opened its fearsome maw, and a powerful Water-type energy gathered within, only to be released as an incredibly thick beam of light.
Budew anticipated the move and nimbly shifted its position, dodging the Waterfall attack.
The attack, imbued with strong electric currents, struck Gyarados.
Electric-type energy instantly spread throughout Gyarados' body, penetrating its scales and seeping into its flesh, as if tens of thousands of ants were ravaging its insides.
Gyarados' face contorted in pain, and its massive body crashed to the ground with a thunderous sound.
Was that... the end?
The spectators couldn't believe their eyes.
This was the Gyarados of Adeku, the Dragon Master of Kanto, defeated in just two turns by an unknown opponent! Who was this challenger, and why had they never heard of him before?
"Gyarados was at a severe type disadvantage," Kiku remarked, impressed.
Adeku nodded in agreement, his eyes sparkling with anticipation. "This is just the appetizer. The real show is yet to come!"
On the battlefield, they waited for about thirty seconds, but Gyarados didn't get up.
Nemmie rushed forward to check on Gyarados and then announced, "Gyarados is unable to battle! Budew wins the first round!"
"Ba-mu!" Budew flew back to Naoki's side, celebrating its victory with a high-five.
Unfazed, Adeku recalled Gyarados into its Poke Ball and took out a second one. "The battle isn't over yet! You are a worthy opponent, and at this point, there's no need for words. Let our Pokemon decide who is stronger!"
"Bring it on!" Naoki nodded, about to continue the battle with Budew when the Poke Ball containing Eevee suddenly shook a few times.
Eevee popped out of the ball, eager to join the fight. "Ve!"
Budew paused, slightly taken aback. "Ba?"
Eevee looked at Budew, its eyes sparkling with stars, and pleaded, "Ve! Veon!"
"Ba-mu~" Budew understood and retreated to Naoki's side.
Naoki was surprised. "You want to battle, too?"
"Wow! It's a Pokemon I've never seen before!" Nemmie's eyes lit up with excitement.
The onlookers shifted their gazes toward Ergui Peng, their curiosity piqued.
"Yet another unfamiliar Pokemon!"
"Hey! You from Pasio, what's with all these unfamiliar Pokemon you have?" someone asked, intrigued.
"No, not at all! I've never seen this Pokemon before either!" Naoki replied.
"Does that mean it's a Pokemon that hasn't been discovered by humans yet?!" someone exclaimed in shock.
"Mr. Naoki, what's this Pokemon's name?" Nemmie asked eagerly.
"Ergui Peng. Its name is Ergui Peng," Naoki answered with a smile as he watched Ergui Peng's retreating figure.
"Poni~" Ergui Peng chimed in.
"Ergui Peng?" Adeku's interest was sparked. "In that case, I shall use this Pokemon as well!"
With that, Adeku threw a Poke Ball.
A bright flash of light signaled the appearance of a fiery Pokemon with intense, bright eyes—a Salamence.
"Looks like a type disadvantage!" Kiku remarked from a distance.
The green-colored Pokemon was obviously a Grass type. Against Salamence's Flying and Fire types, it had no advantage at all.
However, in the next moment, the crowd witnessed the green Pokemon perform a strange action.
It reached into its green coat with its small hands and pulled out a blue mask with a sorrowful expression, as if it were weeping. It then donned the mask.
Immediately, the color of its body changed from green to blue.
Kiku: "???"
Adeku: "???"
Nicholas: "?"
Nemmie's eyes widened in shock. "What's going on? Did it change forms?"
Naoki facepalmed. It wasn't very polite of Ergui Peng to shift forms right in front of their opponents...
But it was too late, as the battle had already begun.
Facing the Grass-type Ergui Peng, Nicholas went straight for an aggressive move. "Flamethrower!"
Naoki wasn't sure about Ergui Peng's true strength, but given that it could take on four opponents and emerge victorious, it had to be powerful.
Thus, Naoki gave a tentative command. "Use your Thorny Stick?"
"Poni!"
Ergui Peng responded immediately.
It waved its small hands happily, and a large stick covered in thorns materialized in its grasp.
The Thorny Stick was enveloped in a dense Water-type energy.
Facing Salamence's Flamethrower, Ergui Peng excitedly waved its Thorny Stick and charged forward.
Naoki's heart skipped a beat as he watched this unfold.
That's too reckless!
But the next moment, something incredible happened.
Ergui Peng held the Thorny Stick horizontally in front of it, waving it back and forth. The scorching flames from Flamethrower turned into fiery snakes that coiled around the stick, only to be extinguished by the Water-type energy that emanated from it.
Salamence was taken aback by this turn of events, unsure if it should continue its attack.
Nicholas frowned. "Increase the intensity!"
Salamence focused its energy, intensifying the Flamethrower.
However, Ergui Peng charged straight into the flames, shifting its position at the last moment to avoid a direct hit. It then raised the Thorny Stick high, catching Salamence off guard.
"Poni!"
With a loud thump, Ergui Peng slammed the stick onto Salamence's head.
The force of the blow knocked Salamence to the ground. Its pink tongue lolled out helplessly, and it lay there, dazed and unable to continue the battle.
The crowd: "???"
Kiku: "It ended in one round?"
Wasn't it supposed to be a type disadvantage? What move was that? How could it take down Nicholas's Salamence so quickly?
A sharp gleam flashed in Adeku's eyes. He hadn't misjudged Naoki!
Everyone except Adeku was stunned by what they had just witnessed.
What had they just seen?
A single blow had knocked out Salamence?
That cute-looking Pokemon was so fierce? What was its story?
"Poni poni!"
Ergui Peng, proud of its victory, put away its Thorny Stick and ran back to Naoki's side, seeking praise. Its starry eyes asked, "Poni?"
Naoki was momentarily at a loss for words, so he reached out and patted Ergui Peng's head, his estimation of this Pokemon's strength rising.
He looked at Nicholas, who was also taking a moment to recover from the surprise.
It took a while for Nicholas to react, but when he did, a serious expression crossed his face. "Whoa... Amazing! Naoki, you're truly formidable!"
