Chapter 350: The Journey Home
Chapter 350: The Journey Home
Chen Chuan contemplated for a moment. He had the Xuejun Blade, which was sufficient for his needs, and the altered organ had already fused with his body, so there was no need to replace it and start familiarizing himself with a new weapon.
Although it was said that an identical weapon could be crafted, in reality, even the slightest difference could make a world of difference. Instead, he decided to acquire a close-quarters short sword, allowing him to handle any situation with the combination of long and short weapons.
"Just a short sword will do," he said.
Officer Qiu carefully noted down his request and asked some detailed questions, including his preferences for the shape, size, and weight of the weapon. After comparing it with the database and making adjustments, an image of a short sword appeared in the boundary token. Upon confirming with Chen Chuan that it was what he wanted, Officer Qiu sent the order directly to the Logistics Department.
"This weapon will take about ten days to craft, and it will be stored in Chen's personal locker, ready for collection at any time," Officer Qiu informed him.
"Thank you," Chen Chuan expressed his gratitude.
Although this was their first meeting, Officer Qiu had formed a positive impression of Chen Chuan. He was well aware that Third Limit Fighters often had their quirks, and many had extreme personalities. It was common to find those with mental issues among the system-raised fighters, but individuals like Chen Chuan, who were mentally sound, were the ones truly needed by the bureau.
However, such talented individuals were undoubtedly sought after by various parties, and Officer Qiu wondered if they would be able to retain him this time.
"Chen, we found in our records that you know how to use throwing techniques, right?" Officer Qiu inquired.
"Yes, a little," Chen Chuan replied.
"That's great!" Officer Qiu extended his hand, offering a smooth wooden box with a smile. "This is a gift from Director Wu. Take a look."
Chen Chuan opened the box and saw finely polished throwing pellets inside. At first glance, he could tell they were perfectly suited for throwing.
"These were used by Director Wu when he was younger," Officer Qiu explained.
Chen Chuan looked up at him, curious. "Director Wu knows throwing techniques too?"
Officer Qiu laughed and said, "Of course! Throwing techniques are incredibly useful for us fighters. Sometimes, they're even more convenient than guns. Many people have tried learning them, but it's challenging to master them to a high level. However, having a basic understanding is not difficult."
Chen Chuan nodded, closed the box, and said, "Please convey my thanks to Director Wu."
"I will," Officer Qiu assured him.
After wrapping up the bureau's matters, Officer Qiu stood up, extended his hand, and said, "That's all from the bureau. Since you mentioned going home, take some time to rest." He added, "There's one more important matter, but it's not urgent. We can discuss it when you return to Central City."
Chen Chuan nodded and shook hands with Officer Qiu. He then asked, "Officer Qiu, may I ask what happened to Wei Wusheng's body?"
"Oh, his teacher, Yu Hongming from the Heavenly Tolerance Gang, paid a compensation fee and took the body away," Officer Qiu explained.
Chen Chuan understood and thanked Officer Qiu.
After gathering his belongings, he left the bureau. Once outside, he looked at the bright sunlight and decided to contact Ni Xianxi. "Ni Xianxi, I'm planning to go back to Yangzhi for a while. Before I leave, I'd like to treat you to a meal. I'm not familiar with the restaurants in the city, so could you choose a place?"
"Sure, let's do it today then. Hmm, 'Tranquility' sounds good. Their old soup is excellent, and it has an old-world charm. How about there?" Ni Xianxi suggested.
Chen Chuan agreed, and after ending the call, he used his boundary token to locate the hotel. He reserved a private room and browsed through the scenic photos. The hotel, built on a mountain, was not only a highly-rated dining destination but also a renowned spot for enjoying the city's views.
Having spent most of his time in Central City dedicated to cultivation, Chen Chuan hadn't explored many recreational places. He checked the time and realized that it was less than an hour until dinner, so he decided not to return to the bureau. Instead, he retrieved his car and drove directly to the hotel.
Half an hour later, he arrived at the location. Stepping out of the car, he looked ahead and was immediately struck by the two towering white jade trees at the entrance, their light flowing within as if about to overflow. Following the mountain path upwards, he saw layers of tall pavilions hidden among the trees, each higher than the last, requiring a climb to reach them.
Of course, for those who preferred a more leisurely approach, there were sightseeing elevators on both sides of the mountain.
However, walking up the mountain offered a more authentic experience and allowed one to appreciate the scenery on both sides. For a fighter like Chen Chuan, it was an ideal choice if time was not a concern.
As he ascended, he noticed several young adults of similar age passing by.
They were students from various universities in Central City, and it was summer vacation. Many of them stopped to take photos using their boundary tokens.
In Central City, the Da Shun government had established three higher education institutions, including Wu Yi Academy. However, many large companies also had their own universities for training employees, so it was challenging to identify which school the students belonged to without their uniforms.
As Chen Chuan walked by, these students couldn't help but give him a few extra glances and subconsciously paused their actions.
As a fighter, Chen Chuan was already physically imposing, exuding a domineering aura that towered over others. After reaching the Third Limit, his personal field seemed to influence those around him. From a distance, one couldn't help but notice him, and when passing by, people instinctively lowered their voices and became cautious.
With his hands in his pockets, Chen Chuan walked up the mountain path, and even the security guards on both sides couldn't help but feel tense.
When he reached the top of the mountain, Chen Chuan turned back to look. This spot was located right on the central axis of the city. The mountain road descended from a high point, connecting with the straight avenue ahead, like a slender white line dividing the towering buildings on either side and extending to the horizon.
Standing here, one could truly feel a sense of openness.
He stood there for a while, then, under the tense gaze of the security guards, turned and entered the hotel's lobby, which was filled with an old-fashioned architectural style.
Led by a waiter, Chen Chuan sat down in a private room he had booked. It wasn't long before Ni Xianxi arrived. As they ordered, she said, "This place is nice, isn't it? Actually, this hotel used to have the word 'Ming' in its name."
Chen Chuan pondered for a moment and said, "Ming Tranquility Universe?"
"Yes, that was its ancient name. Later, they removed it. It's said that before the Central City was established, this place was an imperial court-appointed restaurant." Ni Xianxi tapped her foot on the ground, indicating the spot where she was standing, "I think if they hadn't removed the word 'Ming,' it would perfectly describe you right now."
Chen Chuan said, "I still have a long way to go."
"Not really," Ni Xianxi replied.
Holding a soup spoon, she stirred her hot drink and said, "Do you know? Although the Central Cities are far apart, it's rumored that the government and various companies to promote the Skyline Integration Plan, connecting the domains of domestic and even global Central Cities. When something happens in one city, the whole world might know about it."
Chen Chuan thought for a moment, "If they really do this, it will require a lot of resources."
"Yes, this plan has been talked about for many years but never implemented. But if the need arises, it might happen overnight," Ni Xianxi took a sip of her hot drink, "The domestic and international situations are constantly changing. That day might come at any moment. You should be prepared."
Chen Chuan nodded slightly and looked out at the road that seemed to divide the Central City in half and extended towards the distant horizon. "I will be," he said.
After dining with Ni Xianxi, Chen Chuan drove to the Bao Guo market, where he had previously bought things, to purchase some gifts for his family. When he returned to the Mystic Palace Tower, he began packing and organizing his belongings.
This time, he planned to stay at home for a month, so he needed to bring along his martial arts cultivation drugs and Chao Ming.
Once he was almost ready, he contacted Gao Ming and asked, "Gao Ming, I'm about to set off. Is there anything I should bring for your family?"
Gao Ming replied, "No need. You know they're rarely home. Please give my regards to Auntie and Uncle when you get back."
Chen Chuan agreed and, after a brief chat, ended the call. He was ready to depart.
This time, he wore the uniform specially tailored for him by the Central Processing Bureau. The quality and design of this uniform were several notches above his previous one, making him look more spirited and valiant when he put it on and donned the wide-brimmed hat.
The uniform also came with a protective cloak that not only shielded against wind and snow but also offered a certain level of defense. However, it wasn't needed on this warm day.
After ensuring he had everything, Chen Chuan pulled his luggage and carried the Resonance Nest containing Chao Ming downstairs.
He had initially planned to drive the silver lightning car that had been parked there, but upon second thought, he realized it was flashy and fast but not ideal for carrying things. Even though he was a Third Limit fighter, it was still susceptible to theft.
The Gader car was a better choice—sturdy, practical, and spacious. No wonder the silver lightning car had rarely been driven by Youxuan.
Exiting the dormitory, Chen Chuan made his way to the parking garage, located his car, and securely placed his belongings in the trunk. He put the Resonance Nest containing Chao Ming on the back seat.
He had intended to secure it, but since it was Chao Ming's first outing, the little one seemed excited. Its head poked out, and it chirped at him. After a moment's thought, Chen Chuan gestured for it to come, and it perched on his shoulder. Only then did he sit in the driver's seat, fasten his seatbelt, and start the car.
As he was leaving the Mystic Palace Tower, Chen Chuan sensed something and glanced in the rearview mirror. He spotted Hong Fu standing on the high edge of the roof and waved to her.
Hong Fu noticed and gazed at him through her veil as his car drove away.
