Chapter 350: The Journey Back
Chapter 350: The Journey Back
Chen Chuan contemplated for a moment. He had Snow Lady's Sword, which was more than sufficient. This sword had accompanied him up until now, and its growth and his own body had already reached a harmonious state. There was no need to replace it, as that would mean starting over with a new weapon.
It was said that an identical weapon could be crafted, but in reality, even the slightest difference could make a world of difference. Instead, he decided to acquire a short-bladed dagger for close combat. This way, he could handle any situation with the combination of a long and short weapon.
"Just a short dagger will do," he said.
Qu Gan, the officer, carefully noted down his request and asked some detailed questions, including his preferences for blade shape, size, and weight. After making adjustments by comparing it with the database, a short dagger appeared within the Boundary Vessel. Qu Gan asked Chen Chuan to confirm, and upon receiving his confirmation, he directly sent the order to the logistics department.
"This dagger will take about ten days to forge," Qu Gan said. "It will be stored in Chen Chuan's personal storage locker, and you can come to collect it at any time."
"Thank you," Chen Chuan expressed his gratitude.
Although this was their first meeting, Qu Gan had formed a favorable impression of Chen Chuan.
He was well aware that Tier Three Fighters, to some extent, possessed certain abilities. Many of them had extreme personalities, and those who were not products of the national system often exhibited even more extreme behaviors. It was those like Chen Chuan, with his balanced mindset, that the bureau truly valuable assets for the bureau.
However, such talent inevitably attracted attention from various parties, and Qu Gan wondered if they would be able to retain Chen Chuan this time.
"Chen Chuan, we found something interesting in your records," Qu Gan said. "Do you know how to throw projectiles?"
"I know a little," Chen Chuan replied.
"That's perfect!" Qu Gan extended his hand, offering a sleek wooden box with a smile. "This is a gift from Director Wu. Take a look."
Chen Chuan accepted the box and opened it to find finely polished throwing pellets inside. He instantly recognized their suitability for throwing.
"These were used by Director Wu when he was younger," Qu Gan explained.
Chen Chuan looked up at him in surprise. "Director Wu knows how to throw projectiles?"
Qu Gan laughed. "Of course! Throwing techniques are incredibly useful. Sometimes, they're even more convenient than firearms for us fighters. Many have trained in this art, but it's challenging to master it deeply. However, achieving a basic understanding isn't too difficult."
Chen Chuan nodded and closed the box, saying, "Please convey my gratitude to Director Wu on my behalf."
"I will," Qu Gan assured him.
Qu Gan continued, "That concludes our business here. Since you're planning to return home, take some time to rest up." He stood and extended his hand, adding, "There's one more important matter, but it's not urgent. We can discuss it when you return to Central City."
Chen Chuan nodded and shook Qu Gan's hand. "Qu Gan, may I ask about Wei Wusheng's body? What happened to it in the end?"
"Oh, his teacher, Elder Yu Hongming from the Tian Shu Gang, paid a compensation fee and took the body back," Qu Gan replied.
Chen Chuan understood and thanked Qu Gan.
After gathering his belongings, Chen Chuan departed from the Processing Bureau. Stepping outside, he took in the bright sunshine and decided to contact Ni Xixi. "Ni Xixi, I'm planning to return to Yangzhi for a while. Before I leave, I'd like to treat you to a meal. I'm not familiar with the restaurants in the city, so could you choose a place?"
"Sure, let's do it today at noon," Ni Xixi suggested. "How about 'Ren Shu Tian Xia'? Their old-style soup is exceptional, and it has a unique old-world charm. What do you think?"
Chen Chuan agreed, and after ending the call, he used the Boundary Vessel to locate the restaurant. He booked a private room and examined the scenic photos. The hotel was built on a mountain, renowned not only for its highly-rated cuisine but also as a famous spot in Central City for enjoying the breathtaking views.
Chen Chuan had spent most of his time in Central City dedicated to his cultivation, so he hadn't explored many of the city's attractions. He checked the time and realized it was less than an hour until lunch. Therefore, he decided not to return to his residence but to head directly to the restaurant.
Half an hour later, he arrived at the destination. Stepping out of the car, his gaze was immediately drawn to the two white jade-colored glass trees at the foot of the mountain, their interiors shimmering with light as if it were about to flow out. Looking up the mountain path, he saw layers of tall buildings hidden among the trees, each higher than the next, requiring an ascent to reach them.
Of course, for those who preferred a more leisurely approach, there were sightseeing elevators on both sides of the mountain.
However, walking up allowed one to appreciate the scenery better. As a fighter, Chen Chuan found the experience even more captivating.
The students from the various universities in Central City, including Wu Yi Academy, were on summer break. Many of them passed by, and they couldn't help but pause to take photos with their Boundary Vessels.
There were three universities established by the Dashi Government in Central City, including Wu Yi Academy. However, without their uniforms, it was challenging to identify which school the students belonged to.
As Chen Chuan walked by, the students couldn't help but give him extra glances and subconsciously paused in their tracks.
As a fighter, he was already physically imposing, exuding an aura that surpassed others. After entering the Third Limit, his personal field seemed to influence those around him. From a distance, one couldn't help but notice him, and when passing by, people instinctively became quiet and cautious.
With his hands in his pockets, he walked up the mountain path, and even the security guards on both sides couldn't help but feel tense.
When he reached the area near the summit, Chen Chuan turned back to look. This spot was located right on the central axis of the city. The mountain road descended from the heights, connecting with the straight avenue ahead, dividing the towering buildings on both sides like a thin white line, extending all the way to the horizon.
Standing here and gazing out, one's heart felt open and expansive.
He stood there for a good while before turning and entering the hotel's lobby, which was filled with the architectural style of bygone eras.
Led by a waiter, he sat down in the reserved private room. It wasn't long before Ni Xixi arrived. As they ordered, she said, "This place is pretty good, right? Actually, the hotel's name used to have an additional character 'Ren' in the past."
Chen Chuan's thoughts turned, and he said, "Ren Shu Tian Xia?"
"Yes, that was the ancient name from the old times. Later, they removed it. Before the Central City was established, this place was once an imperial family-owned restaurant," Ni Xixi said, tapping her foot on the spot, "I think if they hadn't removed the 'Ren', it would be a fitting description of you, Chen Xiao Ge."
Chen Chuan said, "Then I still have a long way to go."
"It's not that far," Ni Xixi said.
Ni Xixi stirred her hot drink with a spoon and said, "You know, although the Central Cities are separated from each other, it's said that the government and various companies have been promoting an initiative to link the field frequencies of domestic and even global Central Cities together. When the time comes, if something happens in one Central City, it might affect the entire world."
Chen Chuan pondered, "If they really want to do this, it'll require a lot of resources."
"Yes, they've been talking about this for many years, but it hasn't materialized. But if it's truly necessary, it might change overnight," Ni Xixi took a sip of her hot drink, "The situation at home and abroad is always in flux. That day may come when everything changes in an instant. You need to be prepared."
Chen Chuan nodded slightly. He raised his eyes to look at the road that seemed to divide the Central City in half, stretching all the way to the distant horizon. "I will."
After dining with Ni Xixi, he drove to where he had previously bought some items. Upon returning to the Xuan Gong Mansion, he began packing.
This time, he planned to stay at home for a month, so he needed to prepare the necessary drugs for his martial arts training. He also had to bring along Dawn Crier.
After packing, he contacted Gao Ming, asking, "Gao Ming, I'm about to set off. Is there anything I should bring for your family?"
Gao Ming replied, "No need, cousin. You know they're rarely home throughout the year. Cousin, please send my regards to Aunt and Uncle when you get back."
Chen Chuan said goodbye and chatted for a few more sentences before ending the call. He was ready to depart.
This time, he changed into the uniform specially tailored for him by the Processing Bureau. This outfit was several levels higher in quality and design compared to his previous one. After putting it on and donning the wide-brimmed hat, he appeared more spirited and valiant.
The uniform also came with a protective cloak, capable of withstanding snow and providing a certain level of protection. However, it wasn't needed in this weather.
After checking that he hadn't forgotten anything, he pulled his suitcase and the small nest containing Dawn Crier, heading downstairs.
Originally, he had planned to drive the Silver Lightning that had been parked there. But upon thinking about it, the car's cool appearance and speed were impressive, but it wasn't very practical for carrying things. Even though he was a Tier Three Fighter, stealing this car would be just as difficult.
The Gader Car was a better choice—sturdy, durable, and capable of carrying items. It could even be driven off-road. No wonder the Silver Lightning, which was ideal for Shadow Walking, had been driven only a few times.
Exiting the dormitory, he took the elevator to the garage, located the car, and carefully placed his belongings in the trunk. As for Dawn Crier's nest, he placed it on the back seat.
He had intended to secure it, but since this was Dawn Crier's first outing, the little guy seemed excited, poking its head out and chirping at him. After a moment's thought, Chen Chuan waved his hand, allowing it to climb onto his shoulder. Only then did he settle into the driver's seat, fasten his seatbelt, and start the engine.
As he drove, he glanced in the rearview mirror and noticed Hong Fu standing on the high corner of the building. He extended his hand and waved at her.
Hong Fu noticed, and her lively eyes above the veil gazed at him as his car drove away.
