Chapter 350: The Admiral Springs into Action!
Chapter 350: The Admiral Springs into Action!
Mer Island, a solitary island situated in the vast expanse of the Grand Line. Having traversed the treacherous first half of the Grand Line, with only one island remaining before the final stretch to Shabondy, the journey thus far had been no easy feat.
Reaching this point in the Grand Line was already a significant milestone, and the pirates who managed to make it this far were a cut above the rest. It was commonplace to encounter pirates with bounties of over 20 million, or even 30 million berries.
Of course, those with bounties exceeding 100 million were still a rare sight.
To have a bounty of over a hundred million in the first half of the Grand Line was extraordinary, earning the title of 'Supernova'. Typically, there wouldn't be many Supernovas in a single era, and in the current age, aside from Shanks, there were only two others.
The era of Luffy, with eleven Supernovas, was an anomaly, hence the moniker 'Worst Generation'.
At the port, Feng Ye's ship docked smoothly.
"Robin, we've arrived." Feng Ye set down his book and called out to Robin, who was still engrossed in her reading. "Let's go ashore and enjoy some delicious food on the island."
While his ultimate destination was the Shabondy Archipelago, he intended to make brief stops at each island along the way. This served a dual purpose: it allowed time for the recording pointer's magnetic power to accumulate, and it provided an opportunity to replenish their supplies of fresh ingredients and meat, as well as continue cultivating Robin's cooking skills.
The Hana Hana no Mi's ability was incredibly useful for cooking, as it allowed her to wield multiple kitchen utensils and tools simultaneously, making her as efficient as ten chefs. She could also create multiple physical manifestations of her body, each with a tangible, solid presence.
In fact, this ability might have been even more beneficial for a man.
"Alright," Robin replied, marking her place in the book before closing it.
Lately, with the sense of impending danger somewhat diminished compared to before, she no longer felt the constant need to be on guard. As a result, she seemed to be gradually becoming more mature and composed.
The two disembarked and made their way onto the shore.
Not long after they left the ship, in a room aboard a vessel not far from the port, a man lowered his telescope and narrowed his eyes. He was a naval informant.
Being so close to the end of the Grand Line and the Marine Headquarters, almost every island in the area was teeming with naval informants and scouts.
"That guy..." The informant muttered, "If I'm not mistaken, that should be the Devil's Child!"
While others might not be able to recognize Robin at a glance, it was the duty of a naval informant to instantly identify famous and notorious pirates on the sea. Anyone with a bounty over 10 million berries was someone he made an effort to memorize, and upon sighting, he would immediately report it to the Marine Headquarters.
He picked up a Den Den Mushi.
"Hello, hello..."
"This is Mer Island Informant 13. I've spotted the Devil's Child, Nico Robin!"
...
At the Marine Headquarters, within the highest echelons of the organization...
Nico Robin, the Devil's Child, had a bounty of 790 million berries, surpassing the 500 million mark. Typically, a report on a pirate of this caliber would be handled by a vice admiral.
However, due to the previous incident involving Kuzan, Fleet Admiral Kong had issued a notice to all vice admirals under his command regarding the Devil's Child. Any information pertaining to her was to be reported directly to him for handling.
"So she's appeared again, has she?" Fleet Admiral Kong listened to the report and spoke in a grave tone. "Is that silver-haired man still with her?"
One of the vice admirals present in the room responded, "According to the report, yes. It seems to be just the two of them. The record pointer's magnetic power accumulation on Mer Island takes ten days, and they've only just arrived."
It was Sengoku, one of the Marine Headquarters Admirals!
"Since Aokiji can't deal with that guy, I'll go myself," Sengoku said in a low voice. "We can't keep ignoring such a dangerous existence."
"Sengoku..."
Kong looked up at Sengoku, a hint of hesitation in his eyes.
Currently, two positions among the three Marine Headquarters Admirals were vacant. One was Black Arm Zephyr, who had retained his Admiral rank but had transferred to become the chief instructor of the new recruit camp.
The other vacant position was originally intended for Garp, but he had repeatedly refused the promotion, leaving the spot unfilled.
In other words,
Out of the three Admiral positions, two were essentially unoccupied. If Sengoku were to leave as well, the Admirals would be stretched thin in the event of an emergency involving the Celestial Dragons.
"Don't worry, Zephyr is still here, and he can handle any urgent matters," Sengoku said in a reassuring tone. "If it really comes down to it, even Garp will put the greater good first."
"I understand," Kong nodded, his expression grave. "Go then, but return as soon as you've dealt with it. If you can't capture him, let him go. Don't delay too long; there are other matters here that require your attention."
"Yes, sir," Sengoku acknowledged, donning the Marine's justice cloak and striding toward the exit.
Watching Sengoku leave the office, Kong's face turned somber as he picked up a teacup from his desk and took a sip. He rubbed his temples as he looked at a file on the table, which listed several names.
World Destroyer!
Kaido of the Hundred Beasts!
BIG MOM!
Red Count!
John!
Wang Zhi!
Whitebeard, Edward Newgate!
The New World was not yet dominated by the Four Emperors, but instead, a chaotic battleground of countless pirate crews. At the pinnacle of this chaotic era stood the Whitebeard Pirates.
As one of the three legends who had ruled the previous era alongside Gol D. Roger and "Gold Lion" Shiki, Whitebeard was now recognized as the 'World's Strongest Man' after the imprisonment of Shiki and the death of Roger. The only fortunate aspect was Whitebeard's lack of interest in slaughter and conquest.
Otherwise,
The Marines would be in a dire situation, overwhelmed and unable to spare attention for other matters.
...
As Marine Admiral Sengoku
led a fleet out from the Marine Headquarters, Feng Ye and Robin began to explore Mer Island. Unlike other islands, this one did not boast scenic views but was instead a haven for gamblers, with casinos dotted across the island.
"Sir, we only have 200,000 berries left," Robin said after they finished dining at a high-end hotel. She had taken stock of their remaining funds and now turned to Feng Ye with a concerned look. "At this rate, we won't last ten days here."
"That is a bit troublesome," Feng Ye admitted, tilting his head. He had originally planned to borrow some money from the Celestial Dragons once they reached the Shabondy Archipelago, but it seemed they wouldn't even make it that far with their current funds. While they could skimp and save, it wouldn't be very dignified.
"Oh well," he continued, "let's go win a little money."
"Go to the casino?" Robin asked, slightly taken aback by Feng Ye's suggestion.
Feng Ye stretched and stood up, a confident smile on his face. "I don't like gambling, but I'm confident in my abilities. Turning 200,000 into 5,000,000 won't be a problem... Let's go."
