The people behind him who knew these two types of magic began chanting, while those who didn't flipped through their magic tomes to find the appropriate pages.
But before they could cast their spells, an explosion sounded beneath Rod and Volian's feet.

A burst of Dark Purple flame erupted, sending Gray and Elfman, who were on either side, flying backward. Carla, who was behind them, was also knocked back.
In the center of the explosion, Rod and Volian were launched into the air by two Armored Beetles.
The beetles hadn't fully emerged from the ground before they were shattered into four mini beetles.
Although Rod and Volian were a bit shaken, they were mostly unharmed. Gray, Elfman, and Carla, on the other hand, had sustained some injuries.
