Chapter 350: Birth of the Young Dragons
Chapter 350: Birth of the Young Dragons
On the last day before the holiday, Liam felt early in the morning that the Dragon Eggs he had placed in the Forbidden Forest the previous week were about to hatch. He needed to hurry and make preparations.
So Liam rushed toward the Forbidden Forest, where he had already set everything up a few days earlier.
“Liam, wait up!” Hermione, who had just finished checking her final exam scores, noticed Liam running out and followed him. A few days ago, when Liam was preparing for the hatching of the young dragons, Hermione had been there helping and learning about runes in the process. So she knew that the Dragon Eggs in Liam’s possession were about to hatch.
“Are the dragons about to hatch?” After entering the Forbidden Forest, the two of them quickly made their way through the woods. Since the last enhancement, Hermione had been able to keep up with Liam’s pace in the forest.
“Yeah, that’s why we need to hurry,” Liam said as he dodged a tree. After about ten minutes, they arrived at a small, open hill deep in the Forbidden Forest. On this hill stood a massive stone Altar, adorned with a complex Magic Array. All the engravings were filled with gold, emitting a red glow.
At the five points of the pentagram on the Altar, five Dragon Eggs of different colors were placed. Like the Altar itself, the Dragon Eggs also glowed red, the light pulsing like a heartbeat.
There were already people waiting on the hill. Aunt Betty, dressed in full ritual attire, stood there with a young Centaur girl who looked to be around eight or nine years old.
“Pleased to see you,” Aunt Betty greeted them warmly, then turned to the young Centaur beside her. “Eve, say hello to them. These humans are trustworthy friends.”
The little Centaur shyly stepped out from behind Betty and whispered, “I—I’m Eve, Bettie’s apprentice. Nice to meet you.”
“Witnessing the birth of powerful creatures helps us understand nature better. So today, I brought my disciple along, hoping she could learn something from the hatching of these dragons,” Aunt Betty explained, patting Eve’s hair. “I’m sorry for not informing you in advance.”
“No problem,” Liam waved his hand. “You’ve already been a great help by watching over the Altar, so it’s only right that you use this opportunity to do something meaningful. Please don’t apologize.”
After a brief exchange, the hatching began. Liam made a few gestures with his hands, and suddenly, the sunlight seemed to be drawn to the Altar. The red glow was ignited by the concentrated sunlight, causing the entire Altar to burn like a furnace.
After the flames burned for about five or six minutes, the Dragon Eggs started to tremble. Liam immediately pulled out a bottle of Dragon Blood, uncapped it, and directed the blood to be evenly distributed over the five Dragon Eggs.
“I feel the flaws in the Dragon Eggs have been repaired, and we can proceed to the next step,” Bettie, who had been observing the Altar with Nature Magic, called out. Hearing her, Liam quickly sprinkled a large bottle of Sunlight Crystals over the Altar.
The flames on the Altar suddenly shot up, turning blue. If not for the runes around the Altar restraining the flames, the intense heat would have set everything nearby ablaze.
“Boom!” A few minutes later, the flames slowly collapsed. After condensing into the size of a baseball within the Magic Array, they exploded, transforming into five streams of light that infused the Dragon Eggs placed on the Magic Array.
At this moment, Flame completely extinguished, and Liam and the others approached to find cracks appearing on the Dragon Egg. These cracks continued to spread, as if something inside was trying to get out.
"Crack." The black Dragon Egg was the first to break open, and a small black dragon emerged from it. Soon after, the other four baby dragons also wriggled their way out. However, unlike what most novels describe, these dragons didn't eat their eggshells. Instead, they eagerly devoured the dish of minced meat that Liam had placed nearby.
Charlie Weasley's little trick had indeed proven useful; dragons needed to eat meat to replenish their strength after hatching. Thankfully, in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire, Liam had planted a large number of meat-bearing trees, providing more than enough meat to feed these five dragons.
The fruit from these trees was even more nutritious than real beef or mutton, and the yield was substantial. The only concern was whether these dragons would get used to the unseasoned, lunch meat-like texture of the plant meat.
After the baby dragons had their fill, Liam bit his fingernail and formed a Nature Ally Pact with them. Once everything was done, Aunt Betty and her apprentice bid farewell and left. Liam watched the two Centaurs disappear into the forest, finally having some free time to release the Rose Crystal and inspect the dragons from other worlds.
Under the dual influence of the Dragon Blood enhancement in this world and the will of the Harry Potter world, these dragons had gained the ancient magical abilities of the dragons in this world. This made them much more resilient, unlike the dragons in A Song of Ice and Fire that could be easily brought down by mechanical crossbows.
At least, these dragons would require two runes from a Railgun to be hit in the same spot to be taken down, far beyond the capabilities of the purely physical damage-inflicting giant crossbows that could be manufactured in the medieval productivity of A Song of Ice and Fire.
"They look so cute. Can I touch them?" Hermione asked, standing beside Liam.
"Of course." Liam stepped aside, revealing the baby dragons. Most animal offspring are incredibly adorable, like these dragons, which were about the size of chickens. Of course, once they grew larger, with their fierce faces and spiky bodies, only someone like Hagrid would find them cute.
"Have you named them yet?" Rose Crystal asked, stroking the head of the white dragon. She was very interested in these colossal beasts, which were currently smaller than she was.
"Um, I was thinking of naming them Greenie, Whitey, Blackie, Reddy, and Bluie based on their colors. Don't you think their colors resemble the Olympic Rings? We could call them the Five Rings Team."
These silly names earned Liam a look of disdain from Hermione and Rose Crystal. After some discussion, the two girls decided to rename the dragons according to their colors.
"This green one will be called Malachite", Rose Crystal said, jumping onto the altar and pointing at the dragon. Perhaps because she shared a soul with Liam, the baby dragons were very affectionate toward her, occasionally nuzzling her with their heads.
"The white one will be Opal, the black one Obsidian, the red one Carnelian, and the blue one Azurite", Rose Crystal continued, pointing out each new name.
"Alright, let's go with your suggestions." Liam agreed, finding these names much more appealing than his original choices of Reddy, Blackie, and so on. After playing with the baby dragons for a while, Liam opened a portal and sent them into the Multiverse General Store. Rose Crystal also said goodbye to the two and followed them in.
After tidying up the altar, Liam and Hermione left the small hill and walked out of the Forbidden Forest.
