Chapter 35: The Night Song Forest's Attack
Chapter 35: The Night Song Forest's Attack
Somewhere in the Nightsong Forest.
Manclaw's blood-red eyes scanned the cowering werewolves around him, not one daring to meet his gaze. But he knew he had to leave this place.
As a werewolf standing over two meters tall and weighing three hundred and fifty pounds, he was a giant among the average werewolves who stood at one meter and nine and weighed around two hundred pounds. He was once the leader of this lowland werewolf pack, living a comfortable life.
However, in the recent duel, he had lost to another equally beastified werewolf.
The opponent was a stronger werewolf from the depths of the Nightsong Forest, standing over two meters and four inches tall with terrifying strength.
Although Manclaw was defeated, he would not die.
Not out of mercy from his opponent, but due to his own power.
His heart began to pound vigorously.
This was the scent of a human "Beastling"!
He grunted and propped himself up, still half-asleep, and looked towards the door.
He observed that every so often, a team of well-equipped guards would pass by, each wearing a chainmail suit and carrying an oak shield covered in iron and a sword.
He knew there was a human town nearby, the closest one to him, called Flashgold Town.
Although humans were generally weak, these guards would call for help. If he killed them, he would alert other guards and miss out on the delicious "Beastling" meat.
These were likely the patrolling guards, as the werewolves also had patrols.
"Dad! Tell me, what should I do?"
He wasn't afraid of these "weak" human guards, but he knew that killing them would alert others, and he wouldn't get to eat the tasty "Beastling" meat.
Freckles seemed to have found a lifeline and listened intently for any rhythmic footsteps outside.
Every so often, a small patrol of guards would pass by the servant dormitory.
Soft snores filled the room as most of the servants lay down, their arms sore from a day of archery training.
When Manclaw attacked with full force, a faint green aura surrounded him, counteracting the air's resistance.
"Yeah, Freckles, what are you doing?" the tannery son rubbed his eyes and asked.
Human meat, especially that of human females, was far more delicious than beast meat. The flesh was tender and juicy, and when bitten into, red liquid splattered, making it incredibly tasty.
Manclaw was patient when it came to hunting. Before he became the leader, he had to hunt for himself.
He immediately lay back down, but his trembling hands betrayed his inner turmoil.
". . ."
Freckles seemed mentally broken, not knowing what to do.
This gave Manclaw confidence that he could live well on his own.
The correct version is available at 69 Book Bar!
Right, there were guards!
This not only gave Manclaw a speed far superior to other werewolves but also allowed him to eliminate his body odor during attacks, providing excellent stealth.
Manclaw grunted and left his original werewolf camp, heading east towards the forest.
Freckles immediately realized that no one in the servant quarters had such a massive build. He was the largest among the servants, but he was still far smaller than the intruder.
In the western servant dormitory of the outer barracks, a group of servants lay on the large bed.
In the dim moonlight, they could barely make out a humanoid figure wearing damaged leather armor pauldrons and chainmail. The head was protruding, covered in thick fur, but it was not a human head; it was a massive hyena head! The face was hideous and ugly. At that moment, the intruder was holding a long human body, gnawing on it. Blood and chunks of flesh dripped from its huge mouth! Manclaw was unhappy. He had planned to secretly eat two "Beastlings" and then take two more for tomorrow, but a "Beastling's" scream ruined his perfect plan for the night.
In the dim light, a dark figure crouched by the door, devouring something in large mouthfuls.
Here, it caught a whiff of a dense, young, and tender human scent.
Without lackeys to command, it would have to personally hunt from now on.
Wait a minute!
The "Ironskin" was incredibly strong, some almost on par with it, and even more formidable. It didn't want to encounter them.
"I'm separated from the bed by the door by seven... no, six people. That monster should be full and leave, right?"
Only Thick Brow was hiding something, so he couldn't sleep well.
The dark figure crouching by the door was like a small mountain! This made Thick Brow think of something eerie, and a bead of sweat instantly formed on his forehead.
At this moment, he had never anticipated the arrival of the guards so much! Every minute and second felt like an eternity!
Now, it was wandering towards the forest near the human town, hoping for something different. It was a bit tired of forest meat.
Half-asleep, he seemed to hear the sound of a door opening.
Finally, he heard the slightly heavy, rhythmic footsteps, and Thick Brow shouted with all his might, "Help! There's a monster!"
Judging by the sound, it seemed to be coming from the door of the servant's dormitory.
But soon, he felt something was off, as Thick Brow heard a strange chewing sound. "Crunch, crunch!"
Unfortunately, it seemed the estate patrol had just passed by, or they hadn't arrived yet. As Thick Brow listened intently, the eerie "crunch, crunch" chewing sound became even clearer.
Manclaw had only tasted human flesh three times, and although it had been a long time, the impression left on it was profound, making it unforgettable.
The servants were awakened one after another by Thick Brow's loud shout, and they started complaining about him. But the next second, they all stared at the door, dumbfounded, like ducks with their necks pinched, at the towering figure in the doorway.
"Who's the idiot shouting so loudly!" he muttered.
Someone was eating in the middle of the night?
Dusk had long settled.
"Mother, protect me! I don't want to die yet!"
"Thick Brow, are you crazy? What are you shouting about!" Thick Brow's shouting woke up Freckles first, who was sleeping next to him.
The young Manclaw, after bypassing several humans in leather armor with swords and shields, unknowingly arrived at a large fenced but spacious area.
Apart from himself, Freckles, and a few others, which servant had such a privilege? Wasn't Rain's original spot by the door?
Who was sleeping there now? He couldn't remember, but thinking of Rain, Thick Brow got a bit annoyed, and his thoughts immediately became clearer!
This was why it headed towards the forest in the east.
The taste of a "Beastling" was usually quite delicious, causing Manclaw's thick throat to twitch a few times. It hadn't eaten much all day, so it decided to choose this place.
Before, he had been annoyed by their noise!
Just as Thick Brow was about to curse, a strong stench of blood drifted over, causing him to shudder and his entire body to break out in goosebumps, instantly waking him up.
In a moment, it would be able to eat fresh and tasty meat!
Seeing the half-eaten "Beastling" on the ground, Manclaw knew it had to leave! The human guards were about to arrive, so taking two would be too much, but one should be fine.
So, Manclaw grabbed a servant sleeping by the door, who was already terrified, and charged out, smashing through the wooden door.
The estate patrol guards, upon hearing Thick Brow's shout, immediately rushed towards the servant's dormitory. At this moment, they reached the door, preparing to burst in.
But to their surprise, suddenly, the wooden door shattered into four pieces, and the splintered wood shot towards them like arrows!
The next second, a ferocious monster over two meters tall charged out, knocking two blocking guards seven or eight meters away, and then calmly left!
Soon, the entire Habsburg Estate was brightly lit!
