Chapter 35: The Clever Asuma
Chapter 35: The Clever Asuma
"That's not right! Even if you didn't give me the money, it's still our family's money. How can you say we're earning it?" Asuma cleared his thoughts and retorted.
"In that case, you're indeed very clever." Mu Yue smiled and praised.
Although he was flattered, Asuma felt a strange discomfort.
"Anyway, go and resign from the old man. I don't need a tutor," Asuma laid back against the tree, bluntly stating his decision.
"Since you don't want me to teach you, you can simply not follow me or tell the Third Hokage that you don't want a tutor." Mu Yue suggested.
"Do you think I'm stupid? If I do that, all the blame will fall on me." Asuma lifted his head slightly, his face proud.
He didn't mind the Third Hokage, but he was afraid of his mother, Biwako, getting angry.
Mu Yue nodded inwardly. As expected, Asuma was rather naive. If he resigned by giving the reason that Asuma was uncooperative, then Asuma would be the one bearing the consequences.
However, he had no reason to do so, as manipulating a nine-year-old like Asuma was too easy.
"Why are you so resistant to having a tutor?" Mu Yue didn't rush Asuma to start cultivating and instead continued their conversation.
"You wouldn't understand even if I told you." Asuma shook his head, implying that Mu Yue wouldn't understand since she wasn't his age.
"Why wouldn't I understand? It's simply because you don't like your father's arrangement." Mu Yue stated directly.
Based on Asuma's identity and personality, it was easy to deduce the reason for his rebelliousness.
Asuma was talented; while he might not be on par with those who had cheats, he was still a genius. In terms of cultivation, he didn't seem to be slacking, and Mu Yue could tell that Asuma had a solid foundation.
However, due to his identity as the son of the Third Hokage, his efforts might eventually be dismissed lightly with a comment like, "As expected of the child of the Third Hokage."
His hard work would be taken for granted, and any lack of effort would be met with criticism.
With this dynamic, it was no wonder that the father-son relationship between Asuma and the Third Hokage was strained.
Having graduated from the Ninja Academy and feeling like he had grown up, Asuma was naturally upset when the Third Hokage decided to hire a tutor for him, making him feel completely looked down upon.
"You can only see the surface." Asuma maintained an expression that said Mu Yue wouldn't understand, until she spoke again.
"Isn't it because, no matter how hard you cultivate, in the end, all you get is a comment like, 'As expected of the child of the Third Hokage'?" Mu Yue said with a smile.
Asuma's expression changed drastically, and the look he gave Mu Yue was filled with fear. This was something he had never told anyone, and now that Mu Yue had pointed it out, he felt as if his flesh had been torn open, exposing his inner fears.
"I don't understand what you're saying." Asuma tried to remain stubborn.
However, his restless hands gave away his inner anxiety.
"If you want to prove yourself, you should accept the tutor and strengthen your own abilities. Prove yourself with your strength." Mu Yue continued.
"After all, you can't be considered excellent in your current state." Mu Yue directly refuted Asuma's strength.
Having his inner thoughts exposed and his entire being negated, Asuma became flustered and argued, "I was often the top student in the Ninja Academy. How can you say I'm not excellent?"
Mu Yue smiled and said, "Do you believe me if I say that I can easily find a student who just enrolled in the Ninja Academy, and even they could defeat you?"
Asuma was so angry that he laughed. If Mu Yue had said it was a graduate, he might have believed it, but a student who had just entered the Ninja Academy? Even if it was the newly enrolled Kakashi, Asuma wouldn't be afraid.
"Then it's a deal," Mu Yue said with a smile.
Mu Yue then sent her shadow clone to fetch Itachi.
Asuma eyed Itachi for a moment and felt that Mu Yue was telling the truth; he was indeed a child who had just enrolled in the Ninja Academy.
"His name is Itachi Uchiha, he's a student in my class, and he just turned six this year and is in the first grade," Mu Yue introduced.
"And his name is Asuma Sarutobi, a genin who graduated this year," she continued.
"So, you're Itachi Uchiha. Let me tell you something. If you can't handle me, admit defeat quickly to avoid getting hurt. I won't go easy on you," Asuma said.
"I'll be careful, Sarutobi-senpai," Itachi said seriously.
"Begin!" Mu Yue wasted no time and announced the start as soon as the two had taken their stances.
As soon as Mu Yue's voice fell, Asuma rushed forward, swiftly throwing punches at Itachi.
Itachi remained calm and composed, engaging Asuma in close-quarters combat.
The two exchanged blows, but Asuma's taller and more mature physique didn't seem to give him an advantage.
Asuma's expression changed as he realized that Itachi was no ordinary child; he was tougher than he expected.
Not only was he unable to gain the upper hand, but Asuma also found himself at a disadvantage due to his eagerness to take control. Itachi seized the opportunity and landed a powerful Wood Style Whirlwind Kick that sent Asuma stumbling back three meters.
However, Itachi did not press his advantage, as Mu Yue had instructed him to comprehensively defeat Asuma.
Having been kicked back by a student who had just enrolled in the Ninja Academy, Asuma felt his pride as a graduate taking a hit. Even though Mu Yue was the only spectator, Asuma felt embarrassed and his face reddened.
Without pausing to consider why Itachi hadn't pursued him, Asuma's mind was now set on one goal: to defeat Itachi, salvage his pride, and prove himself.
"Fire Style: Grand Fireball Technique!" Asuma quickly formed the necessary hand seals, causing his chakra to erupt and spew forth a massive fireball.
"Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!" Itachi also began forming seals, gathering a large amount of chakra in his mouth, and then exhaling it and transforming it into flames.
The two fire techniques collided, and Itachi's larger and more intense flames quickly overwhelmed Asuma's technique, continuing to advance toward him.
Asuma was stunned by the turn of events. He stood frozen in place as the fireball rushed toward him, unable to react.
He couldn't understand why he was losing so badly to a child who had just entered the Ninja Academy.
He had been bested in taijutsu and was now being overwhelmed in ninjutsu.
Asuma questioned his self-worth, wondering if he was truly worthless beyond his title as the son of the Third Hokage.
As the fireball drew closer, Asuma finally snapped out of his daze, feeling the heat of the flames. He attempted to dodge, but his speed was not enough to evade the fireball completely.
Just then, Mu Yue intervened, her chakra surging as she swiftly formed a series of hand seals.
"Water Style: Water Wall Jutsu!"
A thick wall of water appeared in front of Asuma, blocking the massive fireball.
"Teacher..."
