Chapter 349: Meteor
Chapter 349: Meteor
"The effect of Zexal Insect, when this card is successfully summoned, send a Reptile monster with 'Insect' in its name from your deck to the graveyard."
Luca drew from his deck and quickly selected a card.
"Send 'Agon Insect' from my deck to the graveyard."
The monster card slid into the graveyard from his dueling disk, but only for a moment before it popped back out.
"Hey, and now the effect of 'Agon Insect' activates from the graveyard," Luca hummed softly.
"Agon Insect can be Special Summoned from the graveyard in face-down Defense Position when there is only one 'Zexal Insect' monster on my field.
So, I place 'Agon Insect' from the graveyard in face-down Defense Position."
The drawn monster card was slapped onto the field, a pitch-black monster card appearing on his field, seeming to harbor unknown dangers.
"Special Summoning a monster from the graveyard in face-down Defense Position?" Guiping exclaimed in surprise.
"It's too early to be surprised," Luca chuckled. "The duel with my insects will shatter your common sense."
Luca continued with a soft laugh, "Then, I activate the magic card 'Double Summon' from my hand, allowing me an additional Normal Summon this turn."
An image of the magic card appeared, creating a summoning portal on his field.
"With this opportunity, I will set another monster from my hand onto the field in face-down Defense Position."
Another face-down monster appeared from the summoning portal, lying horizontally on the field as if hiding a predator ready to pounce.
"Another set monster," Guiping wondered aloud. "Is this a deck specialized in hiding monsters to launch surprise attacks?"
Kaiba remained silent, his arms still crossed.
"Haha, you'll find out soon enough," Luca said with a deep laugh. "The Insects are no ordinary bugs. They are one of the most terrifying disasters in the universe, having conquered countless territories as they hop from planet to planet.
They always fall from the sky, riding on destructive meteors that carry their invasive embryos. When a meteor of destruction falls on a new planet, it also brings countless insects with it. The meteor's descent is the signal for the invasion of the insects to begin; no one can stop their march of conquest."
"Hmph, a boring fairytale," Kaiba scoffed.
"Hahahaha, you misunderstand, President Kaiba," Luca laughed. "What I'm describing is what you're about to face! I activate the trap card, 'W Nebula Meteor'!"
The face-down card on his field flipped up, and at the same time, a destructive meteor truly fell from the sky!
"W Nebula Meteor! Change all face-down monsters on the field to face-up Defense Position!"
The meteor crashed down, and the blast flipped both of Luca's Insects on the field.
[Apocalypse Insect: DEF 200]
[Agon Insect: DEF 1800]
"Now, an experienced duelist like you, President Kaiba, should be able to guess what's about to happen, right?" Luca asked with a smile.
Kaiba narrowed his eyes slightly. "The effects of Flip monsters?"
"Correct," Luca said. "The effects of both monsters activate when they are flipped. Apocalypse Insect, destroy a Spell or Trap card on the field when it is flipped.
Destroy the card you have set on the left side of your back row."
Kaiba's face-down card flipped up, revealing the trap card 'Attack Redirect Armor', one of Kaiba's commonly used traps that could redirect an opponent's attack to another target.
Guiping exclaimed, "Ah, my brother's trap was..."
"The Insects don't just target traps!" Luca interrupted. "'Agon Insect's' effect!
When this card is flipped, return one of your opponent's monsters on the field to their hand.
"With your defenses shattered, I declare a direct attack with 'Zexal Insect'!" Luca declared.
The insect broke through the defenses and struck Kaiba directly, causing him to stagger back slightly with a furrowed brow.
[Kaiba: LP 4000 → LP 2200]
"Hmph, so the mouse has a little trick up its sleeve," Kaiba remarked nonchalantly.
"You still maintain your confidence even after that? Impressive, President Kaiba," Luca chuckled. "Unfortunately, since 'W Nebula Meteor' changed my insects to face-up Defense Position, I can't attack this turn. So, I end my Battle Phase here."
He drew two more cards.
"Then, I set two cards and move to the End Phase. At the end of this turn, the final effect of 'W Nebula Meteor' activates," Luca continued.
A sinister wave swept over the field, causing Zexal, Agon, and Apocripos to curl up and revert to face-down Defense Position, becoming Set cards once more.
"Huh?" Guiping furrowed his brows in confusion. "Why did the insects change back to face-down?"
"It's the final effect of 'W Nebula Meteor'," Luca explained. "'W Nebula Meteor' has one more effect that activates during the End Phase of the turn it is activated. All face-up Insect and LIGHT monsters I control are changed to face-down Defense Position, and then I draw the same number of cards. Since I had three Insect monsters, I draw three cards!"
Luca drew three cards in quick succession.
"Huh? Not only do they get to reset their insects, but they also get to draw cards?" Guiping exclaimed, realizing the gravity of the situation.
When Apocripos flipped, it could destroy a card. When Agon flipped, it could return an opponent's monster to their hand. In other words, no matter what monster Kaiba summoned, as long as Luca attacked with his insects, he could use Agon's effect to return it to Kaiba's hand. Even if he didn't attack, Luca could still activate Agon's effect during his next turn and achieve the same result.
What a troublesome insect!
"Hahaha! It seems you're beginning to grasp the beauty of my insects, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Now, witness the true power of my insects!" Luca proclaimed.
"But wait, there's more! 'W Nebula Meteor' has one last effect! During the End Phase of this turn, I can Special Summon a Level 7 or higher Insect or LIGHT monster from my deck. Behold, I summon the king of insects—'Insect King'!"
A golden insect with a terrifying visage emerged. Its upper body resembled a humanoid figure with four arms, while its lower body was that of a hideous insect, complete with a menacing maw capable of devouring anything in its path.
[Insect King: ATK 2700]
"Insect King," Kaiba murmured, looking up at the colossal insect.
"Whoa, is this your trump card?" Guiping asked, his eyes widening.
Luca merely smiled, neither confirming nor denying.
"In one turn, he undid my brother's entire setup, performed a direct attack, replenished his hand, reset his back row, and now he's summoned this powerful monster," Guiping said, his gaze turning wary as he addressed Luca.
Could this guy actually be really strong?
