Chapter 349: Annihilate – Heaven Demon Hao's Thunder Tribulation!!!
Chapter 349: Annihilate – Heaven Demon Hao's Thunder Tribulation!!!
An incredibly high recovery rate, formidable close-quarters combat skills, masterful control over Haki, and the ability to discern movements with the naked eye rather than just through observation—this was the type of opponent that Shanks struggled against.
Much like Kaido.
But compared to Kaido, this 'Calamity' was even more troublesome.
Kaido's beast-type body was known for its raw power.
While this guy's physique might not be as strong as Kaido's, his recovery abilities were astonishing.
Not only did his wounds heal in the blink of an eye, but more importantly, he could withstand the impact of Conqueror's Haki!
This wasn't good.
Sag, standing atop the dark clouds, reached up and wiped his chest, which now bore seven scars but no other injuries. He let out a hideous laugh:
"That slash was quite something. It almost made my consciousness scatter!"
Sag had experienced the power of Conqueror's Haki numerous times before.
Kaido, Big Mom, they were both formidable opponents with powerful auras.
But when compared side by side, this red-haired man truly possessed the deepest well of Conqueror's Haki.
It was normal for his Haki to be stronger than Sag's, whose own Haki wasn't particularly potent. He relied purely on his infinite Haki.
Especially when it came to the binding effect of Conqueror's Haki, this opponent could not only defend against his attacks and withstand the force of his fists, but they could also concentrate their power into their blade and break through his Haki.
And each of Sag's strikes was infused with the maximum amount of Haki.
However, unlike his previous encounters, Sag had lost to Kaido. He hadn't been able to hold his ground.
Against Big Mom, he had only managed a stalemate by using his Storm to suppress her elemental abilities.
But now, he could withstand the red-haired man's binding Haki!
No matter how proficient one was in recovery, physique, and elemental abilities, losing consciousness rendered all of that moot.
But Sag had endured, and the moment had passed.
It was impossible to make him lose consciousness with a single slash or even several slashes infused with Conqueror's Haki!
"If you enjoyed the taste, come and have another bite."
Shanks tightened his grip on Gryphon and laughed up at the sky: "I'm a gracious host."
"Hahahaha! I'm not afraid of you, but that doesn't mean I'm stupid!"
Sag threw his head back and laughed, then looked down at the people holding their weapons below. His eyes narrowed, and he reached for the flintlock pistol that had been at his waist the entire time.
"Why not use my advantages? Let me show you something new."
He gripped the flintlock pistol and aimed it at the Red Force below. "It's not just you who can use weapons. South Dipper Gun Blast!"
Six lead bullets, amplified a hundredfold, transformed into six massive cannonballs, imbued with Haki and Conqueror's Haki, and crackling with black and red lightning. They hurtled downward in a rapid assault.
Bang, bang, bang!
As soon as the lead bullets transformed into cannonballs, three gunshots rang out from the ship.
Beckman pulled the trigger of his long gun with one hand, firing a Haki-infused bullet that collided with one of the cannonballs first.
Boom!
The moment the lead bullet made contact with the cannonball, it was like lightning had struck, causing the massive cannonball to disintegrate in mid-air and explode, sending a shockwave and a brief cloud of smoke through the raging storm.
Beckman jumped high into the air after firing his shot, flipped his long gun, and used the butt of the gun to smash into another cannonball, sending it flying like a baseball and exploding into a huge splash in the sea.
Lazzi followed suit, firing a shot as well. Unlike Beckman, the bullet he fired had even more explosive power, causing an explosion upon contact with the cannonball, which then set off the cannonball's own explosion.
He lunged to the front of the deck and punched another falling cannonball with all his might, his heavy and impactful strike causing the cannonball to explode right in front of his fist. The explosion's aftermath was blocked by Haki, preventing it from reaching the ship.
Jesus Burgess, on the other hand, strode to the side of the ship, took aim at the two descending cannonballs, and pulled the trigger. His bullet pierced through both cannonballs like a thin wire, causing them to explode in mid-air.
All six cannonballs were taken care of.
"Is that all you've got?"
Beckman called out through the pouring rain, "Or are you getting tired?"
Such an intense, high-stakes battle, coupled with the opponent's incredible recovery rate, would undoubtedly take a toll.
He had stopped using hand-to-hand combat and was now relying on his abilities, even though his Haki intensity hadn't lessened. But perhaps this was a sign that he, too, was struggling to maintain his endurance.
"Hmph," Sag sneered, not bothering to reply. Instead, he raised his hand toward the sky.
Boom!
A black and red lightning bolt struck his golden vambrace, and it remained there, merging with the vambrace.
Under the thunderous lightning, Sag's vambrace began to melt and reshape.
"Thunder Forging!"
The golden vambrace elongated and took on a new form in the midst of the lightning, eventually solidifying into a pair of palm-sized, gleaming spearheads that rested in Sag's hand.
"Hundredfold!"
The spearheads rapidly grew in size in Sag's hand, transforming into a massive weapon several dozen meters long.
"Try this!"
Bang!
Sag leaned back, assuming a 'knuckle' throwing posture, and as he swung his arm, it created a piercing sound that split the air.
"Heaven Demon Hao's Void Slash!"
The penetrating power of Wei, the instantaneous burst of Lei Ming Bagua, the knuckle's impact technique, and Sag's own true injury, capable of piercing through any vital point, were all channeled into this spearhead that crackled with black and red lightning!
The power of Haki-infused attacks was vastly different from those without!
At its core, Saga's Empty Slash was still a Busoshoku Haki blast, an intangible technique.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have focused on hand-to-hand combat; he could have just used Haki blasts from the beginning.
Whoosh!
Faster than lightning, the attack carved a black and red line in the sky, slicing downward toward the ship.
The sheer force of the attack cleaved through the air pressure, causing the waves around the Red Force to transform into one segment after another of trenches, as if they had been cut multiple times.
Shanks' eyes widened as he raised his hand and brought it down in a vertical chop, summoning a trail of red lightning with it.
Clang!!
A crisp sound rang out from the bow of the ship, as the swung blade and thrown spear collided, creating a burst of sparks that shot up into the sky, along with a shockwave.
Under the influence of Conqueror's Haki, the sky seemed to tear open, only to be filled in by the clouds, forming a massive spiral pit.
With the force of the Haki, Shanks lifted Gryphon and sent the spear flying, spinning several times in the air before sinking into the sea.
"What a waste of gold," he said with a smile, sounding somewhat relaxed.
In terms of raw strength, he was no match for the Calamity. But when it came to the impact of Conqueror's Haki, sheer power wasn't the only factor.
"You and I are different. Our levels as pirates are completely unequal."
A malicious smile spread across Sag's face as he stretched out his hands, palms facing forward, and revealed the golden jewelry on his fingers.
'Red-Haired' Shanks, as one of the Four Emperors, likely had little of value beyond his sword if his cloak was discarded; he would be nothing more than a drunken uncle.
How could he compare to Sag?
He was a nouveau riche!
"Are we comparing wealth? Hahaha, in that case, I've lost. After all, you've taken down the City of Worldly Desires."
Shanks burst into laughter, and the people on the ship joined in.
Although they had sustained injuries and found themselves in the midst of this storm, their tension wasn't particularly high.
Even if some of them wore tense expressions.
The Calamity's performance was indeed impressive, and it was a type of opponent that Shanks struggled against. But so what?
Being one of the Four Emperors gave him a different kind of confidence.
However, the more intense the Calamity's performance was, the more excited Sag became!
The red glow in his eyes flickered, and he stretched out his fingers, clearly tensing up.
"You're quite relaxed, huh? Is this the tradition of your pirate crew? Well, let's see how long you can keep up this relaxed attitude before you start crying!"
Whoosh!
The storm raged even more fiercely.
Amidst the raging wind and rain, a countercurrent of energy suddenly appeared around Sag, steaming and turning white. The dark clouds beneath his feet expanded, casting an even deeper shadow over the Red Force.
Rumbling sounds filled the air.
Black and red lightning crackled within the cloud layer, their light illuminating the ship below.
"Hey, is it another thunder attack? Looks like we'll have to set sail to dodge it, Gab. You better be ready to steer!"
Jesus Burgess spoke up, addressing the helmsman of the Red-Haired Pirates, a battle member who also served as their helmsman.
Angro·Gab, the helmsman of the Red-Haired Pirates, opened his mouth and let out a muffled roar.
Beckman, the vice-captain of the crew, fixed his gaze on the expanding dark clouds beneath Sag, a frown creasing his face.
"Can it really be that simple?"
This opponent, who seemed unaffected by attacks, was clearly not the type to simply charge head-on. He was likely similar to Kaido in that regard, with a calculating mind.
Would someone like that not realize that relying solely on thunder attacks wouldn't be enough to take them down?
Was he trying to buy time?
That would align with Shanks' intentions as well.
They had come here to stop this Calamity from participating in the war.
"Hey, if that's all you've got, give up, Norton Sag."
Shanks called out, "Those kinds of attacks are useless. If you don't have any other tricks up your sleeve, you're just wasting time. Why don't you come down and have a drink with me instead? I'm quite curious about someone like you. How about granting me this face-saving request?"
"A drink? Sure,"
Sag grinned sinisterly, "If this ship of yours can withstand my attack, I'll have that drink with you!"
Bang!
He clenched his fingers, and the golden jewelry on them shattered into countless fragments. At that moment, the black and red lightning in the sky descended.
"Great Perfect Form of Heavenly Freedom!"
Boom!
The raging wind howled even louder, and the countless fragments of golden jewelry transformed into slender gun blades, shimmering with a black and red luster, as they were enveloped by the falling lightning.
Whoosh!
In the blink of an eye, Sag's hands disappeared, only to reappear in rapid succession as he struck out with his palms, infusing the gun blades with the same dense aura as before, turning them into streaks of black and red lightning that fell alongside the natural lightning.
Splash!
The hurricane stirred up monstrous waves, intertwining with the pouring rain, forming hurricane water dragons that merged with the falling lightning.
Gradually, the falling lightning began to deform, and as the various influences intertwined and amplified, the shapeless masses elongated, transforming into straight pillars of black and red that connected the sky and the sea.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The thunderous roars reverberated, carrying the raging wind and pouring rain with them, as if engulfing everything around the Red Force. The ship's surroundings transformed into one massive spiral trench after another, as if repeatedly cleaved by the attack.
