Chapter 348: Unexpected Changes
Chapter 348: Unexpected Changes
At the Academy Outpost.
Gearjack, a Second Circle Wizard, and Gloria, the Shadow Witch, soared above the Wizard Tower, gazing into the distance at the oncoming horde of abyssal creatures.
"There are quite a lot of them!" Gearjack rubbed his chin, his head composed of countless gears spinning rapidly, and a faint blue light shone from his eyes. "Fortunately, we have the Demon Hunter Corps and the Black Wizard Tower's assistance. Otherwise, we might not be able to hold them off on our own."
"Yes," Gloria nodded, a puzzled look on her face. "How did the Abyssal Cottage release so many abyssal creatures? Could it have been corrupted by the Abyssal Will already?"
Although the wizards of the Abyssal Cottage cultivated using the power of the abyss, it didn't necessarily mean they were Dark Wizards.
On the contrary, they were suppressing the abyssal power from leaking out, actively resisting the Abyssal Will.
The Abyssal Cottage and the Abyssal Rift were in a special relationship, mutually restraining yet interdependent.
After all, once corrupted by the Abyssal Will, one would become a puppet of the abyss, a fate no wizard desired.
For this reason, other forces allowed the existence of the Abyssal Cottage, sometimes even forming alliances to explore the abyss together.
But the power of the abyss was pervasive and tempting, and wizards would often be secretly enticed by it.
In a sense, the wizards of the Abyssal Cottage were all potential abyssal creatures, which was why they didn't gain the trust of other wizards.
"Roar!"
A hundred-meter-long draconic behemoth burst through the clouds, its terrifying dragon roar shaking the heavens.
The Second Stage power of the beast shattered the outpost's defenses with ease, and several figures collapsed, overwhelmed by the ensuing wave of abyssal creatures.
"Hmm!"
Gloria, the Shadow Witch, let out a light hum, and beneath the dragon, numerous black shadows suddenly appeared.
These shadows, as if tangible, transformed into ropes that bound the draconic beast, even penetrating its body.
Second Circle Wizard - Shadow Animation!
"I'll hold the front line." Gloria glanced at her companion. "You keep an eye on the Wizard Tower."
"Mhm." Gearjack nodded. "Be careful. If a Third Stage creature appears, retreat immediately; it's beyond our capabilities."
"Understood," Gloria replied. "If the Abyssal Cottage dares to release a Third Stage creature, then that force doesn't deserve to exist."
The master of the Abyssal Cottage was a Fourth Rank Wizard, but Fourth Rank wasn't the pinnacle of Calim's power.
On the contrary,
For those truly powerful ancient beings, Fourth Rank was merely the beginning.
"Swish!"
Gloria's figure flickered, vanishing from her original spot and reappearing beside the Second Stage draconic beast as if she had teleported.
With a wave of her hand, the shadows transformed into spinning blades, slicing through the beast's body.
Despite the beast's tough hide, it couldn't withstand the attack, and its flesh was torn apart, its blood splattering as it roared in agony.
"Roar!"
"Gloria, I'll assist you!"
A Second Circle Wizard from the Demon Hunter Corps controlled a puppet, rushing forward to pin down the struggling draconic beast.
The chaos was short-lived, and soon, the situation calmed.
"Phew..."
Charlotte, in the midst of the battlefield, exhaled in relief, her tense expression relaxing slightly.
"These creatures are truly insane."
"The nature of abyssal creatures is madness and chaos. Having sanity is the real anomaly." A wizard from the Black Wizard Tower smiled faintly. "Who would've thought, Charlotte, that you've reached the late First Circle. In a few decades, you'll undoubtedly become a Second Circle Wizard."
Charlotte smiled, not commenting on the time frame.
A few decades? For the relatively young Charlotte, it was a long time, but there were ways to shorten that duration.
"Careful!"
Suddenly, a shout of alarm echoed from not too far away.
Charlott subconsciously turned her head, sensing something amiss. Before she could react, a sharp pain pierced her heart.
"Pfft!"
A bloodied spearhead pierced her chest, protruding from her front.
Uh...
Confusion, pain, and bewilderment flashed in Charlott's eyes, and she let out a piercing howl that shook the surroundings.
"Demon Hunter Corps!"
"Ah!"
"Boom, boom, boom..."
Violent gusts of frostwind erupted from his body, spreading recklessly in all directions.
Wherever the frostwind passed, everything froze.
At the same time.
"Pfft!"
Shadow Witch Gloria, who was battling abyssal creatures, suddenly stiffened, spitting out blood.
What's going on?
"Poison!"
Her body, enhanced by wizardry, was immune to almost all toxins, even neurotoxins.
Unless...
It was the poison of the Demon Hunter Corps!

Gloria's body trembled as she slowly turned to face the Tier 2 Wizard who had come to assist:
"You..."
"It was me."
The other party shrugged:
"To be honest, your strength isn't that impressive, but your unique tradition makes it a bit tricky to take you down."
"Charge!"
With a light wave of his hand, he rushed forward alongside the abyssal creatures.
Charles's body lay on the ground, his eyes wide open in death, filled with resentment and despair.
Maggie was busy scavenging for spoils of battle nearby and glanced back at Linen, a hint of surprise on her face.
"You're that strong?"
"Even without my help, Charles probably wouldn't have escaped," Linen estimated.
"Lucky," Linen smiled, "My bloodline has advanced to the Second Rank."
"Second Rank!" Maggie's voice held a hint of envy. "No wonder. It seems you'll have no problem becoming a Tier 2 Wizard. It's hard to believe."
A few months ago,
Linen was just an Apprentice Wizard who couldn't even pass the academy's assessment. Now, he was on the verge of becoming a Tier 2 Wizard.
It was unbelievable!
Even though Maggie had witnessed his progress, she couldn't help but wonder if Linen had been replaced by someone else.
Her suspicion was understandable.
While it was conceivable that his strength had improved, the rapid enhancement of his combat power without any signs of adjustment was baffling.
For instance,
In theory, Linen, with his Second Rank bloodline, could maintain his transformation for ten breaths using his psychic power.
This was purely theoretical.
In reality, the Second Rank bloodline ravenously devoured psychic power, causing immense discomfort and wasting several breaths.
Additionally, controlling the Second Rank body with his feeble psychic power was equally challenging, hindering the full display of its power.
However, Linen,
Seemed naturally adapted to the Flame Scale Wyrm of the Second Rank, showcasing his full strength within the ten breaths.
Despite being limited by his cultivation, during that brief moment, he could overpower a First Circle Mid-stage Wizard.
"It's strange,"
Linen was pondering a different question: "How did Charles contact the wizard from the Abyssal Cottage? And why would the Demon Hunter Corps collaborate with them?"
"It's not unusual to have connections. I also know a wizard from the Abyssal Cottage," Maggie straightened up and said.
"But it's odd that they teamed up to target us."
Linen didn't bring it up.
After all, Maggie was one of Viper Academy's top wizards, and Skin Wizard Xize dared to attack her.
They showed no regard for her status, as if they had some hidden advantage.
"Hmm?"
Both of them looked down and took out the message scrolls issued by the academy. The news on the scrolls made their faces pale.
"The outpost has been destroyed!"
"Is Shadow Witch Gloria dead?"
"The Demon Hunter Corps colluded with the Abyssal Cottage to raid the academy!"
