Chapter 348: The Nightmarish Space Created by Lanchi
Chapter 348: The Nightmarish Space Created by Lanchi
Xide realized immediately that her Holy Son was not Loren. Otherwise, he would have helped her kill Askesan in Bandela, or if he really was Loren, it would have been impossible for Askesan and the man in the black robe to survive that battle.
Unfortunately, only a handful of people knew the specifics of that campaign.
In the eyes of the Silent Holy Son, Anielo, it would make more sense that Loren was secretly pulling the strings, allowing the two to escape despite having the upper hand.
Askesan couldn't very well tell Anielo that the reason the Cardinal Bishop escaped was due to the explosion set off by the Holy Son of Dominance, which also left him in a weakened state. He didn't want to expose his own vulnerabilities and risk inciting rebellious thoughts in the Silent Holy Son.
"Here," Lanchi said as he held up Mao Boss, who produced the [Fake Tablet-Wind] for Xide to see.
With a mournful expression, Mao Boss pulled out the white card that had plunged his feline life into an abyss.
"You're quite the talented one, aren't you?" Xide remarked as she took the [Fake Tablet-Wind] and examined it, marveling at its ingenuity. It was the first time she had heard of anyone creating a counterfeit of the [Primitive Tablet].
As a holder of one of the tablets herself, she was keenly aware of just how extraordinary such a feat was.
"So, what's your relationship with Loren?" Xide inquired as she handed the [Fake Tablet-Wind] back to the sobbing cat-headed creature, gently stroking its little black head before turning her gaze to Lanchi.
She now had a good idea about the true origins of her Holy Son—he was a visitor from the Southern Continent, which explained why he had remained unknown in the Northern Continent all these years.
The more time she spent with him, the more she felt that his talents extended far beyond what they had witnessed so far, and he shouldn't have been in obscurity for so long.
This led to a new question: in order to create the [Fake Tablet-Wind], one would undoubtedly need to have seen the original [Primitive Tablet-Wind] and perhaps even obtained its raw materials. This implied that her Holy Son must have met Loren and earned his approval.
"We were both teacher and friend to each other," Lanchi replied with a smile, a hint of nostalgia in his voice as he thought of Dean Loren.
"?" Mao Boss was unsure if Lanchi was referring to Loren or himself when he mentioned the word "teacher."
"Also, I'm not a member of the Goddess of Fate Church. Before becoming your Holy Son, I hadn't formally joined any church faction," Lanchi added, spreading his hands.
"I believe you," Xide nodded, her eyes fixed on Lanchi.
Their shared experiences through adversity were the strongest bond between them.
"Would you like to make a counterfeit of my [Primitive Tablet-Basic]?" she asked after a moment's thought.
It stood to reason that the magic craftsmen would be most eager to lay their eyes on the various primitive tablets, and her tablet, in particular, would be an impossible one for those from the Southern Continent to observe.
If word got out that someone from the Southern Continent had managed to behold the [Primitive Tablet-Basic], it would undoubtedly cause quite a stir.
"Sure, your primitive tablet is the most useless one anyway," Lanchi replied nonchalantly.
After all, observing it now wouldn't be of much use. They would have to wait for the Great Love Poet to return so he could help create a counterfeit tablet, as Lanchi lacked the carving skills and magical engineering prowess of Xide.
"...I'm going to hit you," Xide said, raising her fist in mock anger.
But despite her threat, she didn't actually land a punch on Lanchi.
"You want to see it, and I'd be happy to show it to you. After all, I've never let anyone else observe it before," she said with a cold smile, turning her head slightly to the side.
"Mhm," Lanchi nodded.
"Didn't you hear me say that I won't let you see it?"
Sied turned to Lanchi once more, emphasizing her previous statement.
"I heard you." Lanchi replied matter-of-factly.
"Beg me. I obviously want you to work hard for it, can't you tell?"
"...Then please let me observe your Primitive Tablet-Basic."
"...”
Lanchi's reluctant attitude reminded Sied of a bad actor in a play, and she fell silent for a moment.
"You're not going to see my tablet." She sighed in frustration.
She thought about it some more and was amused by his audacity.
Nevertheless, now was not the time for tablet observation; they had only temporarily escaped their crisis.
"What are you planning to do about Anielo next?" Sied asked, nudging Lanchi with her elbow.
The same trick wouldn't work twice on Anielo, and she had no idea how Lanchi would deal with the more difficult and enraged Silent Holy Son the next time they met.
And that wasn't the only challenge; the most difficult obstacle was still the Box Mountain Province, heavily guarded by the main force of the Extinction Branch.
"It's already over." Lanchi smiled and took out Mao Boss's sixth-level spell card, [Ultra Long-Range Communication Magic].
The distance was now sufficient to reach the cities of the Snowfield Province.
He contacted the independent terminal of the Snowfield Province's governor's office, and soon the secretary of the Snowfield Province connected the call.
"This is Rocky McCassy. Please transfer me to Viscount Raven Kingston." Lanchi held the communication magic card up to his chin, speaking as if he were holding a walkie-talkie.
"Yes, Your Excellency, please hold."
Without hearing Lanchi's voice, the other party was already extremely respectful upon noticing that the call was from the Governor's Ultra Long-Range Communication Magic number.
It didn't take long for the call to be transferred within the province, and soon it was connected to the Viscount's mansion in Kingston City.
"Your Excellency the Governor, have you returned? Do you have any instructions for us?"
A steady, middle-aged man's voice came from the other end.
As the strongman of Kingston City, Viscount Raven Kingston possessed Ultra Long-Range Communication Magic himself, and he was relieved to hear of the Governor's safe return from the north. As Shaya's father-in-law, he also held a deep sense of gratitude towards the Governor.
"Yes, I do need your help." Lanchi acknowledged, "I'm pursuing a powerful member of the Ghost Party, and he may escape into the Snowfield Province before noon. He has three distinctive features. First, he's an associate of Professor Mech and will pretend to be a high-ranking member of the Extinction Branch, possessing various perfectly forged seals and Imperial Army documents. Second, he suffers from mental instability and will claim that the High Priest Loren has arrived on the Northern Continent. Regardless of whether he claims to have unlock permissions or not, do not, under any circumstances, hand over the city's communication terminal to him. Third, his state is one of terror and mania, and he is highly aggressive. He urgently needs to be calmed and treated. Please set a trap and capture him within the city."
"Understood! Those damn Ghost Party members dare to try their old tricks on us again? We've already prepared for such a scenario!" Viscount Kingston's voice was filled with anger, as if he couldn't wait to set up a net to capture this despicable Ghost Party member.
Sied, standing next to Lanchi, couldn't help but twitch at the corners of her eyes! She could already imagine Anielo being played with to the point of doubting his life and the world! Indeed, she hadn't misjudged this guy!
