Chapter 346: The Gradually Thinning Brock
Chapter 346: The Gradually Thinning Brock
"Really starving me to death!" Dugdale hurriedly walked to the round table, grabbed a piece of bacon and eggs, and stuffed it into his mouth. Then he gulped down a large bowl of corn porridge.
Ivan, who had been chatting with Walker, quickly asked, "Headmaster Dugdale, how did things go?"
"About as I expected! The Ministry of Magic is taking this seriously, but it’s just for show. They won’t cause much trouble. They’re still racking their brains over how to handle that ledger. They might spend a month or two just discussing it." Dugdale casually waved his hand and explained.
Ivan was completely relieved. By the time the Ministry of Magic finished their meetings, who would have the time to investigate them?
However, Ivan was very curious about Dugdale’s sources of information.
Their raid on Borgin and Burkes Magic Shop was last night. Even if the Aurors had stayed up all night and rushed to the scene, it had only been less than half a day.
Dugdale must have bribed some high-ranking official in the Ministry of Magic to get such accurate information so quickly.
"Right, what about Borgin and Burkes Magic Shop? What does the Ministry of Magic plan to do?" Ivan remembered that the magic shop was now vacant and asked.
He thought the location of Borgin and Burkes Magic Shop was quite good, right at the intersection of Diagon Alley and Knockturn Alley, and it was also a transit point in Knockturn Alley.
More importantly, Ivan knew that Borgin and Burkes Magic Shop had a damaged Vanishing Cabinet, which could directly transport someone to Hogwarts.
In the original timeline, a large number of Death Eaters entered Hogwarts Castle through there, triggering the Battle of the Astronomy Tower.
If possible, Ivan still hoped to control this place.
Dugdale saw through Ivan’s thoughts and hesitated for a moment before shaking his head and advising, "Forget about that magic shop. Many people are eyeing it now! They just think Brock is missing, not dead, so they haven’t made a move yet. We’ll just watch the show and let them fight among themselves!"
Ivan felt a bit disappointed but wasn’t too concerned. After all, the most valuable thing in that magic shop was the knowledge related to making magical items, which they could still get their hands on.
After a quick breakfast, Ivan slipped away while Aisha and Hermione were still chatting, to avoid being caught by Aisha and getting a harsh scolding. He also went to the market in Diagon Alley to buy some potion ingredients and a cauldron, and started brewing a batch of Veritaserum.
As a high-level potion, the difficulty of brewing Veritaserum was not low.
Fortunately, Ivan’s potion-making skills had improved to a very high level, and it wasn’t the first time he had brewed Veritaserum, so he could ensure the success rate of the potion.
Familiar with the process, Ivan finely ground the potion ingredients and added them to the cauldron one by one, stirring and mixing them until he covered the cauldron.
The brewing of high-level potions usually required a considerable amount of time, and this couldn’t be rushed.
During the few days while waiting for the Veritaserum to complete, Ivan didn’t idle. He began to study the book Hermione had brought, Secrets of the Darkest Art.
He also reminded Dugdale and Fren and others not to approach their magic shop casually, to avoid being seen by Dobby and causing historical fluctuations.
It’s worth mentioning that the captured Brock had been unusually stubborn over the past few days, firmly stating that he would rather starve to death than reveal any information!
Ivan had to cast a Stunning Spell on Brock every day to prevent him from regaining consciousness and attempting suicide.
However, Ivan had no good solution for the hunger strike.
After several days without food or water, Brock's body became increasingly emaciated. Fortunately, just as he was about to starve to death, the Veritaserum was finally finished.
At the same time the potion was completed, the system notification also sounded.
*Ding, after a period of practice, your Potions proficiency has improved, currently level 5 (1690/3200)!*
Ivan glanced at his system panel. Due to his frequent use of the Time Turner to study various courses and practice common Spells, most of the Spells listed in the status bar had already been raised to level 5.
This meant that even without considering special Bloodline Magic, his Spell proficiency was already stronger than that of an average adult Wizard. As for the most powerful Transfiguration Spell, it was almost at level 6.
Ivan took the freshly brewed Veritaserum and found Brock, who was tightly bound and locked in the storage room.
After several days, Brock no longer had the same appearance he had when they first met. He was filthy, covered in dust and grime, his cheeks were greenish and sunken, and he looked like a corpse except for his breathing.
Ivan drew his Wand and lifted the Stunning Spell on Brock. After a while, Brock's body moved, and he struggled to open his eyes.
Brock looked around, feeling weak and powerless, his stomach empty and painfully hungry.
When he saw Ivan, a wave of hatred surged in his eyes. He also understood why Ivan had kept him alive—only for the knowledge of Alchemy.
With this thought, Brock weakly glanced at Ivan and said defiantly, "Give up! I won't say anything!"
"Is that so?" Ivan smirked in disbelief, taking out the Veritaserum from his Wizard robe. With a look of terror on Brock's face, Ivan pried open his mouth and dripped a few drops of the potion into it.
Brock's terrified expression slowly turned calm, and his eyes lost their focus.
Ivan asked a few questions, and Brock answered each one, revealing all the details of the attack. It seemed the Veritaserum was indeed working.
"Where is the Library? I mean, the books related to the creation of magical items", Ivan finally got to the point and asked.
"It's in the secret door in the right corner of the basement. The key is the pendant hanging around my neck", Brock said dully.
Ivan pulled down Brock's collar and indeed saw a shiny silver pendant hanging around his neck, resembling a small seal.
Ivan took the pendant and hesitated for a moment before continuing, "Is there anything I should be careful about when I go there?"
Brock answered with a vacant gaze.
"The Library is set with a Light-Repelling Charm, making it pitch black. If anyone tries to cast a lighting Spell inside, the secret door will close in thirty seconds, and the Library will turn into a sea of fire, consuming everything!"
