Chapter 345: Red-Haired Shanks
Chapter 345: Red-Haired Shanks
Feng Ye had already planned his travel route for this journey.
He intended to sail around the Grand Line, starting from this island near the entrance and heading towards the Shabondy Archipelago, the midpoint of the first half. Then, he would cross the New World and return to the other side of Reverse Mountain, effectively circumnavigating the globe.
Whether or not this journey would equate to becoming the Pirate King held little interest for him. He was more curious about the different paths that lay ahead and where they would lead.
Nevertheless, there were a few places he wanted to visit: Skypiea, Fish-Man Island, Marineford, and even the holy land of Mariejois.
One simply couldn't pass up the opportunity to explore such iconic locations while in the world of the Pirate King.
...
Many things on the ship, including a clump of seawater under the hull, had been given life by Feng Ye, transforming into a sea monster.
With the sea monster propelling the ship, their voyage was swift, and in less than half a month, they had already passed two islands and were heading towards the central region of the first half of the Grand Line.
At that moment, as they sailed into a certain area, the sea began to churn, and dark clouds gathered in the sky, from which lightning occasionally flashed.
A storm was brewing, but inside the ship's cabin, Feng Ye and Robin, the older and the younger, were quietly absorbed in their books, unperturbed by the rocking of the ship.
As Feng Ye turned the last page of his book, he caught sight of the final line before gently closing it, revealing the title on the cover—'God-level Sword Soul System'.
"Not bad," he mused, and with a wave of his hand, the book flew to the nearby bookshelf. Another book immediately flew out and landed in his hand.
At that moment, Robin, sitting opposite him, also closed her book, her large, dark eyes sparkling as if she were still immersed in the world within its pages.
A few seconds later, she stood up, placed her book on the shelf, and glanced out the window, a hint of worry in her voice as she asked, "It looks like a big storm is coming. Are we going to be alright, Mr. Feng Ye?"
"Yeah, it's fine. Don't worry," Feng Ye replied nonchalantly.
Robin breathed a sigh of relief. "Then I'll go prepare dinner."
Feng Ye nodded at Robin as she left the cabin, and he smiled to himself.
Indeed, there was something special about the charm of a young girl.
He wasn't particularly fond of the term 'loli,' but he had to admit that as girls grew older, they often became more interested in his body and indulged in excessive behavior. So, for now, he appreciated the innocence and cuteness of youth.
As Feng Ye withdrew his gaze, he glanced out at the sky, and in his deep blue irises, a glint of gold appeared—the image of a clock.
"Hmm?"
He had only intended to use his future-predicting ability to get a sense of the impending storm's severity, but what he saw took him by surprise.
It wasn't about the storm, but rather, he had glimpsed something else.
...
About ten miles away from Feng Ye's ship, a medium-sized vessel rode the waves, its sail bearing the symbol of a skull—a white skull with two crossed swords behind it, forming an X.
Not many would recognize this skull flag at the moment, but in over a decade, it would undergo a slight alteration—three red slashes, like scars, would appear in the upper right corner of the skull.
Jesus Burgess struggled with the ropes of the sails and called out to the helmsman, the red-haired Shanks.
At this moment, Shanks was only twenty years old. Having sailed from the East Blue and gathered his crew along the way, he now already had a bounty of several hundred million berries, all because he had once been an apprentice on the ship of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger!
"Hahaha, don't worry. This is just a little squall."
Shanks laughed heartily as he gripped the ship's wheel, showing no sign of panic.
Having sailed with the Pirate King, Roger, and having conquered the Grand Line alongside him, the storms in the first half of the Grand Line were indeed mere trifles to Shanks. In the second half, there were even skies that didn't rain but only crackled with lightning.
"It's still a little squall now, but the storm will fully unleash its fury soon!"
Lucky Roux, holding onto his flapping cloak, shouted to Shanks, "Our ship can't withstand that kind of tempest. We must get out of here quickly! Shanks!"
As Shanks held the ship's wheel, about to say something, Jesus Burgess, who was pulling on the sail ropes, suddenly paused, his eyes fixed on the distant sea. Amidst the waves that rose and fell like mountain peaks, he spotted a smaller ship.
"Boss, there's a ship ahead!"
"Their ship is smaller than ours. They might not make it," Beckman said, his voice low as he gazed at the distant vessel, his cigarette already damp and extinguished by the rain.
Shanks glanced at Feng Ye's ship, and his expression changed slightly. "They're a bit too deep in. It might be difficult to save them."
Shanks wasn't worried about their current position; he was confident he could handle it. But if they ventured further in, the ship might truly capsize, which would undoubtedly be a troublesome affair.
"We should take care of ourselves first! Boss!!"
One of the crew members shouted out.
Shanks turned to Beckman and said, "Beckman! Fire a signal flare to guide them to follow us. That way, they might still have a chance to escape the storm's center!"
"Really now..."
Beckman sigently rubbed his forehead.
Without arguing, he took out a signal pistol and fired a flare into the sky. The bullet exploded, blossoming into colorful sparks.
It was around this time that Feng Ye stepped out of the ship's cabin and onto the deck. He looked up at the signal flare in the distant sky and at Shanks' ship rocking on the waves.
"A signal flare..."
"Are they telling me to follow them...?"
As he watched the sparks and flares quickly disappear in the storm, a slight smile curved Feng Ye's lips. He lifted his chin and ordered, "Follow that ship."
"Aye, aye, Captain!"
The ship, the sails, and the ropes all responded in unison.
As the ship changed course, the storm intensified. Thunderclaps resounded, and the already turbulent sea seemed to boil. It appeared that the next wave could capsize the entire ship, shattering it to pieces.
Amidst this raging tempest, the two vessels gradually drew closer.
