Chapter 344: The Deal
Chapter 344: The Deal
Barrasomu, having lost both his hands and legs, lay helplessly in a pool of blood, emitting a feeble cry of despair.
Not far from him, a three-meter-tall Hundred-Face Demon, exuding an aura of terror, crouched obediently on the ground.
Lin En stood beside the demon, withdrawing his probing spell.
"The creation of a Hundred-Face Demon requires the stimulation of deep-seated fears and madness, leaving no room for rationality," he explained.
Maggie, dressed in white with white hair, approached slowly, her voice calm. "The power comes from the fusion of the negative emotions of hundreds of people, channeled through wizardry, and combined with the ancient giant bloodline."
"The chaotic consciousness is condensed into a whole. Under such circumstances, restoring your friend's sanity is like trying to refine impurities from a thousand-hammered, hundred-forged gold stone—a difficult task, I'm afraid."
"We have to try," Lin En said, pointing to Barrasomu on the ground. "If what he says is true, there's still a chance."
"There is!"
"Absolutely!"
Barrasomu hurriedly shouted, "My mentor is an expert in this field. It was he who made the Hundred-Face Demon obey my commands."
With his strength, he couldn't control a First-Rank Hundred-Face Demon, and even if he could, there was a high chance of backlash.
So, he wasn't lying.
He was also aware that lying to a wizard was as good as signing his death warrant.
"Heh..." Maggie chuckled, turning to Lin En. "You're quite the friend, or is there something more between you and this girl named Susan?"
"We've studied together for many years, so of course, there's an emotional connection," Lin En said, looking at Susan's face on the Hundred-Face Demon. "And, I owe her money."
"You owe her money?" Maggie's beautiful eyes sparkled with curiosity. "How much?"
"One magic stone."
Maggie rolled her eyes, speechless for a moment.
"I'm sorry to trouble you with this," Lin En said.
He needed to acquire the crafting method of the Hundred-Face Demon from the Skin Wizard Carpenter in exchange for helping Susan regain her consciousness.
Having just advanced to the rank of Wizard, Lin En wasn't well-connected with the wizards of the three major forces, so he had to seek help to mediate the situation.
"It's no trouble," Maggie waved her hand dismissively. "In fact, I think it's admirable. Few wizards would go to such lengths for their friends."
"I feel that the longer wizards live, the less they have true friends, only bound together by mutual interests."
"It's a good feeling."
She clasped her hands behind her back and sighed softly, "The fact that you're so dedicated to a friend from your wizardry apprenticeship days makes me want to be your friend too. No need to worry about betrayal."
Friends?
Lin En smiled.
He had sought help from several wizards, and only Maggie had agreed to intervene, earning his friendship.
"Here it comes!"
A faint mist had enveloped the area, and soft, almost imperceptible footsteps drew near.
"Lin En?"
Skin Wizard Carpenter emerged from the mist, his lifeless face now bearing a pair of cold, piercing eyes.
He stared at Lin En, a cold smile spreading across his face.
"A genius who dies young is never truly a genius, and a sixteen-year-old wizard only represents potential for the future."
"Carpenter," before Lin En could respond, Maggie stepped forward, her voice stern. "Your disciple set a trap to kill apprentices from other forces, and he claims it was at your command."
"What do you have to say for yourself?"
"Hmph!" Skin Wizard Carpenter finally turned his gaze to his disciple, letting out a cold snort. "Useless waste!"
"Carpenter," Lin En spoke calmly. "If this matter reaches the Tier 2 Wizards, even you will face severe punishment, so..."
"Let's make a deal.
"A trade?" The Skin Wizard Carpenter's eyes narrowed.
"What trade?"
"My friend was turned into the Hundred-Face Demon by you. Help her regain her sanity, and I'll let this go." Linen shook his sleeves, tossing Barrasomu, who had lost both hands and legs, in front of Carpenter.
"As a show of sincerity, he's yours first."
"Hmm." The Skin Wizard Carpenter lowered his head, looking at his apprentice.
"Mentor." Barrasomu's voice trembled.
"I... I did my best."
"You should know that I only care about results, not the process." The Skin Wizard Carpenter's voice turned cold. "So..."
"Go to hell!"
A black shadow emerged from his eye socket, piercing Barrasomu's body and pulling out a large amount of blood.
In the blink of an eye, only a piece of human skin remained on the ground.
"Murder?" Maggie shook her head at the sight. "You don't think killing someone will end this, do you?"
"I've recorded the whole process of your murder, and I have evidence left by your apprentice."
"Is that so?" The Skin Wizard Carpenter remained expressionless. "The evidence is only useful if you hand it over."
"What?" Maggie was taken aback.
"Be careful!"
Linen suddenly spoke up, waving his staff, and layers of flame shields appeared around the two of them.
"Pfft!"
"Pfft! Pfft!"
A phantom appeared out of thin air, easily piercing through the flame shields as if they were made of paper.
Fortunately, this gave Maggie a moment to catch her breath and regain her composure. She looked at the phantom with bright eyes.
Petrification Spell! The phantom instantly stiffened and turned into a thin stone chip, falling to the ground.
Human Skin!
"Carpenter." Maggie's face darkened, her eyes filled with disbelief. "You're insane!"
She was one of the most promising wizards at Viper Academy, poised to become a Second-Circle Wizard, and she was also the apprentice of a Second-Circle Wizard.
Although Linen had just advanced to the next rank, he also had great potential.
Before coming, the two had anticipated a tough negotiation, but they never expected the Skin Wizard Carpenter to dare to take their lives.
How dare he?
How could this be?
Suddenly, a burst of flames rushed towards them from behind.
At the Academy Residence, Shadow Wizard Gloria, residing in the floating Wizard Tower, suddenly opened her eyes, looking towards the distance with a puzzled expression.
"Abyssal Creatures?"
"So many of them!"
Despite the large number of creatures, they didn't concern her.
Being inside the Wizard Tower, even the appearance of a Third-Rank creature wouldn't faze her in the short term. Instead, it would provide an opportunity to slaughter the creatures and collect their corpses.
But something was amiss.
With so many creatures, it was highly likely that the Abyssal Cottage's wizard had secretly manipulated the situation.
"What's going on?"
Gloria slowly straightened her body.
"Facing the encirclement of the three forces, the wizard from the Abyssal Cottage dares to counterattack. Has he lost his mind to the Abyss's delusions?"
"Abyssal Creatures are attacking! Everyone, prepare!"
Her voice wasn't loud, but it resonated throughout the entire base, causing the outer Wizard Traps to glow with spiritual light.
In a certain house, Charles stood by the window with his arms crossed behind his back. His eyes shone with a faint light, reflecting the swarm of creatures in the distance.
"The opportunity has come."
He waved his hand towards Claude, who stood behind him.
"Go!"
"Capture that Wizard Apprentice named Isaiah and use her to lure Linen deep into the Abyssal Rift."
"Xavier has been wanting to meet Linen, and he'll get his wish soon."
At this moment, he was unaware that the two people he mentioned had already met.
