Chapter 344: A Bountiful Harvest
Chapter 344: A Bountiful Harvest
The chaotic battle in the sky continued into the next day without any signs of abating.
Under normal circumstances, when dragons faced other magical creatures, they would typically end the fight with a single burst of dragon flame, their primary method of attack.
However, this ability was less effective when facing other dragons.
Dragons inherently possessed high resistance to dragon flame, their innate ability.
Unless there was a significant power disparity, a burst of dragon flame would only leave a noticeable mark on their opponent.
Two dragons with thick hides and high defense, deprived of their primary attack capability, would eventually resort to a battle of endurance and combat instincts.
The Swedish Short-Snout Dragon, for instance, lacked in this regard and was among the first to be eliminated.
Despite the dragons' seemingly harmless tussles in the sky, any wizard or even a robust troll would face instant dismemberment if they dared to intervene.
As the sky gradually brightened, Newt was showing signs of exhaustion, his body swaying as he stood.
Although he had spent his younger days carrying a case around the world, often going days and nights without sleep, that was decades ago.
For a man approaching a hundred years old, staying awake was a challenging task. Newt had consumed two bottles of Wakefulness Potion just to stay on his feet.
As Newt prepared to drink a third bottle, Kyle swiftly snatched the potion bottle from his hand.
The Wakefulness Potion was effective, but it wasn't meant to be consumed like water.
Moreover, this potion only forced one to stay alert, and the more one drank, the more difficult it became once the effects wore off.
"Who knows when this will end? Why don't you rest for a while? I'll handle the rest," Kyle said as he tucked the potion bottle into his pocket.
"Alright..." Newt glanced at the situation in the sky, hesitated for a moment, and then accepted Kyle's suggestion.
He was indeed exhausted.
"Although this place is relatively safe, you should still be cautious. If you encounter danger, move away immediately... I remember you have a ring for Apparition."
Newt gave Kyle another reminder before opening his case.
Inside was a small bed, just enough for a temporary rest.
After Newt went inside, Kyle picked up the case and continued observing the battle in the sky.
...
This was destined to be a tedious process.
By midday on the second day, Newt woke up, and then it was Kyle's turn to rest...
From night to day and back to night...
It wasn't until the early hours of the third day that the chaotic battle gradually subsided.
Not because it ended, but because the dragons were too exhausted to fly, swaying in the sky as if drunk. The once massive dragon flames had diminished to small flickers, forcing a temporary ceasefire.
Once the Hungarian Firebolt had also calmed down, Newt, accompanied by Kyle, returned to their previous location.
Soon after, the others gradually returned as well.
Most of them appeared exhausted, and without saying a word, they went straight to sleep.
The Dragon Reserve had prepared tents for everyone as temporary accommodations, located next to the dining area.
Kyle curiously entered the tent marked with the name 'Newt Scamander.'"
Inside was a relatively spacious three-bedroom suite, complete with a bathroom and kitchen. Although the furniture looked a bit old, everything was spotlessly clean, and there was no hint of a musty odor.
Having taken turns to rest, Kyle didn't feel sleepy at the moment. He walked over to the table and sat down, preparing to tally their gains from the past few days.
Newt had previously mentioned that they were here to help, and the Dragon Reserve wouldn't interfere with their collection... This was an unspoken agreement between them.
Opening the Transfigured Lizard Hide Bag, Kyle took out its contents one by one and placed them on the table.
First were the dragon's teeth and scales, which filled two large bags. However, the quality varied greatly, with some intact and others severely damaged. Kyle didn't have time to sort through them carefully, so he piled them carelessly in a corner.
Then, he took out a large, deep red bottle and placed it heavily on the table.
This bottle contained dragon blood, approximately a pint's worth.
In Diagon Alley, a bottle of dragon blood cost twelve Galleons, and the quantity was meager.
The amount Kyle had collected could fill about thirty such bottles.
Three days... Strictly speaking, two days, three hundred and sixty Galleons, or one hundred and eighty Galleons per day.
Even if they split it between the two of them, it would still be ninety Galleons each... Plus, there were other miscellaneous items, making their earnings for the day exceed Mr. Weasley's monthly salary.
"Oh... Is this all dragon blood?"
Newt, who had just entered the tent, immediately noticed the bottle on the table.
"Yes," Kyle nodded, then added with a frown, "But there are at least three types of dragon blood here. I wonder if that will have any effect."

"As long as there's no Peruvian Vipertooth blood, it's fine," Newt assured him. "Their blood also contains toxins."
"That's good," Kyle sighed in relief.
Peruvian Vipertooth blood was green, and he had specifically taken note of it before. Moreover, the green blood had a particularly pungent odor, making it easily detectable if mixed in.
"Oh, right," Newt pointed outside the tent and smiled, "I just saw Lockhart acquiring some items. He seems to be offering fair prices. You can go to him if you need to."
Lockhart, the professor from Bosworth?
Kyle thought about it but decided against it.
He didn't need Galleons at the moment, and these items were useful to him as well, whether for alchemy or potion-making.
Most importantly, they were 100% authentic, and he didn't have to worry about any adulteration.
Kyle took out another bottle and divided the dragon blood, giving half to Newt.
Newt didn't refuse and accepted it with a smile.
After diluting the dragon blood, it could be used to make medicine for other magical creatures. With just a small addition, the quality of the medicine would immediately improve.
In a shop, this would be the difference between regular stock and premium stock.
For Newt, who had a box full of magical creatures, dragon blood was a necessity.
However, Newt didn't take any other items, leaving them all to Kyle.
It took Kyle over half an hour to sort through and remove all the severely damaged items. Later that evening, he sold them to Professor Lockhart from Bosworth.
A large bag, weighing thirty Galleons, not a small amount, but better than nothing.
In fact, Kyle had initially thought that Professor Lockhart wouldn't buy these items, but to his surprise, the professor was willing to take anything related to dragons.
"You might not be aware of this at Hogwarts..."
Professor Lockhart handed Kyle thirty Galleons and said with a smile, "Bosworth has an alchemy course. For beginners, there's no need for high-quality materials. These are more than sufficient."
He also told Kyle that if he had any more subpar items in the future, he could sell them to Lockhart at the same price, weighed and paid by the pound.
Kyle agreed.
Now, he couldn't help but wonder if the materials used in Hogwarts' Potions class were also sourced by Snape from somewhere, weighed and bought by the pound.
