Chapter 343: The Cruel Reality
Chapter 343: The Cruel Reality
Over the next few days, the Drakuls and the Andersons surprisingly spent a lot of time together. Initially, communication between the two families was a bit awkward, with Mr. Drakul using his broken English and gestures to communicate with Herb.
Perhaps due to their Veela heritage, the Drakuls were quite amiable towards Muggles, similar to the Weasleys.
Mr. Drakul often brought his family to the resort for skiing and was familiar with the surrounding area. He introduced the Andersons to many local specialties and fun places to visit.
However, Nia's mood remained somber. Lately, Louise had been pestering Albert and occasionally flirting with him, which was infuriating.
The fact that they communicated in French made Nia feel even more left out.
The Anderson couple noticed that their son had become a bit distant. In their communication with the Drakuls, they never imagined that Albert was so famous in the wizarding world.
This naturally worried them, as being famous at a young age was not necessarily a good thing.
Mr. Drakul expressed his understanding and took the time to comfort the Anderson couple, assuring them that Albert's fame in the wizarding world was limited to academic circles.
In truth, Mr. Drakul himself didn't understand why Albert was so renowned. He eventually attributed it to Albert's connections with many famous wizards.
After all, friends of influential figures in academic circles were usually no pushovers themselves.
If it were a one-sided relationship, perhaps not many people would pay attention. But Albert's involvement in so many diverse fields meant that— When these wizards communicated and casually mentioned Albert, they were surprised to find that they all knew him.
Naturally, this sparked interest, and they began to inquire about and collect information on Albert, remembering him as a genius.
The Anderson family didn't stay at the resort until the end of the summer vacation. By the end of July, they boarded a plane back to Britain.
After all, Nia's further education was imminent, and whether she was going to Hogwarts or another school, preparations needed to be made.
The only thing that bothered Albert was that after returning to Britain, the weather became even more unbearably hot. Having gotten used to the comfortable cool temperature at the resort, he now found the British summer heat oppressive.
The scorching weather made people irritable, especially as August approached. Nia's mood became increasingly anxious, like a prisoner awaiting sentencing, knowing that the letter from Hogwarts would be her final verdict.
Albert could understand Nia's anxiousness. It reminded him of the college entrance examinations in his previous life, and that kind of anxiety and gloom were terrible, to say the least, especially for an eleven-year-old child.
Even with Albert's best efforts to comfort her, he couldn't change the girl's anxious mood. Every time an owl flew by, Nia would rush to get the letter, hoping to be the first to see the results.
Albert had to put down his holiday homework and devote more energy to Nia, trying to distract her with other things.
"Do you want to play a game?" Albert waved the game console in his hand, a Tetris machine he had asked Herb to buy.
Yes, the kind with just one game in it.
Albert tried to divert Nia's attention with the game, but it didn't seem to be very effective.
"If you really can't wait to know the result, I can write a letter to ask for you." Albert put down the game console, moved Tom, who was lying next to it, and said calmly, "I know the deputy headmistress of Hogwarts. If you really can't wait, I can ask Professor McGonagall, the witch who came to visit us last time."
"Really?" Nia's eyes sparkled with hope, but it quickly dimmed as Albert knew what she was afraid of.
"Of course. If you want to know!" Albert looked into Nia's eyes and said softly, "But no matter what the result is, you must accept it and not throw a tantrum."
"Okay!" Nia nodded vigorously.
Albert went back to his room and fetched a quill pen. He wrote a letter to Professor McGonagall.
After he finished writing, he handed the letter to Nia, who read it aloud:
Dear Professor McGonagall, My sister, Nia Anderson, has reached the age to attend Hogwarts, and she has been troubled by this matter lately. Could you please tell me if she has been accepted to Hogwarts?
—Albert Anderson "Is that it?" Nia looked at Albert in confusion, not expecting that "asking" would be so simple.
"Professor McGonagall is the deputy headmistress, and she's in charge of new student admissions. Asking her directly is the best way," Albert explained as he handed the letter to Sheela.
"How long will it take?"
Albert rubbed the girl's head gently and soothed her, "Don't worry, there will be a reply soon."
Albert figured that Professor McGonagall's reply would probably be sent along with his letter. He wrote this letter purely to comfort Nia.
"Okay, you play the game console for a while. After you start school, you won't have much chance to play." Albert pushed the game console into Nia's hand, went to the kitchen to pour her a glass of Coke, and even added two ice cubes.
He also poured himself a glass and took a big sip before pulling out today's copy of the Daily Prophet from under Tom's butt.
Albert couldn't remember when Quirrell had sneaked into Gringotts to steal the Philosopher's Stone.
However, he knew that once this incident occurred, the Daily Prophet would definitely report on it. Even if the goblins wanted to cover it up, they couldn't stop those journalists who were always looking for big scoops.
The next morning, while the Anderson family was having breakfast, a reply came from Hogwarts, or more specifically, from Professor McGonagall.
There was only one letter addressed to Albert, and Professor McGonagall's reply was enclosed within.
The smile on Nia's face instantly vanished, and her eyes welled up with tears. She knew that she hadn't been accepted to Hogwarts.
Undoubtedly, she had no magical talent.
Albert sighed softly, opened the envelope, found Professor McGonagall's reply, glanced at its contents, and handed it to Nia.
The girl tremblingly took the note, and Herb and Daisy exchanged glances, both seeing the relief in each other's eyes.
"It's okay, Nia. Don't be sad. Even if you can't go to Hogwarts, there are other schools you can attend," Daisy hugged Nia and comforted her gently, "You've known this for a long time, haven't you?"
Yes! She had known for a long time.
This reply was just the final blow to Nia's lingering hopes.
"Go ahead and cry if you want to," Albert patted Nia's back gently, "You'll feel better after you've cried."
"Why can't I do it?" Nia was very unresigned. She also wanted to go to Hogwarts and learn magic.
Yes! Why?
There was no such thing as fairness in this world.
It was so cruel.
Albert had known this for a long time and had become accustomed to it.
However, for an eleven-year-old girl, it was still so cruel.
"Do you remember our agreement? Help me manage things here in the future, okay?" Albert said after Nia finished crying.
