Chapter 343: Susan
Chapter 343: Susan
The Crow Wader is an uncommon magical creature, prized by some Demon Hunter Corps wizard apprentices for its exceptional tracking abilities.
The Lavender Quehuan is a mutated variant, possessing the potential to become a legendary being, far beyond the means of an ordinary apprentice.
With this lead, it was easy to narrow down the target.
"Barrasomu, a well-known apprentice of the Demon Hunter Corps, is said to be on the path to becoming a full-fledged wizard within a decade."
Thanks to her good relationship with Isaiah, Melisa, who had successfully connected with Lin En, shared the information she had gathered:
"His mentor is the Skin Wizard Carpenter, a First Circle Mid-Rank Wizard. This wizard has a peculiar hobby—collecting various skins."
"He takes the skins of those he finds attractive, be they humans or magical creatures, and adds them to his collection. It's rumored that he once skinned several Demon Hunter Corps wizard apprentices in a row, leading to a reprimand. He even built a room specifically to display his collection."
At this point, Melisa's face paled.
"Hmm."
Lin En nodded slowly.
"Have you found Barrasomu?"
"Yes," Melisa confirmed.
"In the Frostbloom Forest!"
...
The Frostbloom Forest was not far from the Abyssal Rift, and it was home to the Frostbloom Tree, named for its leaves that resembled a white frost.
Several wizard apprentices from the Black Wizard Tower hid behind the trees and underground, holding their breath as they watched a group of Abyssal Creatures—Tortoiseback Ants. These creatures were the size of small water tanks, with tough hides and shells covering most of their backs.
While hunting Tortoiseback Ants didn't earn many credits, their delicious meat was highly sought after by many wizards.
Magic shops and butchers were willing to pay a high price in magic stones for them.
"Move!"
With a low shout, the prepared wizard traps were triggered, enveloping the Tortoiseback Ants.
Swamp Spell!
The hard ground instantly transformed into a powerful swamp, trapping the ants.
Thunder Net!
Arcs of electricity weaved into a net, moving swiftly through the swamp, crackling loudly.
Venom Arrows!
Dozens of dark green arrows shot out from the nearby Frostbloom Trees, rapidly targeting the ants.
The hidden wizard apprentices also rushed out, waving their staffs and casting various spells.
Even with their high spell resistance, the Tortoiseback Ants were momentarily stunned by this onslaught.
By the time they recovered, it was too late.
First Rank Rune - Frost Step!
An extreme cold descended from above, instantly freezing an area of several dozen square meters, turning the Tortoiseback Ants into ice sculptures.
"Phew..."
A female wizard apprentice with strange runes painted on her face emerged from behind a tree, grinning as she spoke,
"Our long wait in ambush has paid off. Let's collect our catch and return."
"Yes!"
The others agreed.
They used prepared ropes and fishing nets to wrap up the frozen Tortoiseback Ants and headed out of the forest.
Just as they started walking, one of them suddenly stopped:
"Sma..."
"Pffft!"
Before he could finish, an arrow pierced the air and went straight through his throat, drawing a trail of blood.
"Thud!"
The body fell to the ground.
"Careful!"
"Ambush!"
Arrows rained down relentlessly.
Some wizard apprentices waved their staffs, summoning defense shields, and even attempted to transform into windforms, but to no avail; they were all pierced by arrows.
"It's the legendary knight's magic arrows. Don't try to block them; dodge and move quickly!"
The female wizard apprentice with the runes on her face screamed softly and darted forward, disappearing behind a tree.
"Pffft!"
"Pffft! Pffft!"
When the arrow rain ceased, only three survivors remained in the clearing, while the others lay as corpses on the ground.
"Whoosh!"
Shadows darted across the field, rushing towards the trio.
A Great Knight!
A Legendary Knight!
The newcomers weren't just knights; they possessed a spiritual glow enhanced by wizardry, and their weapons were also enchanted.
"Demon Hunter Corps!"
An apprentice from the Black Wizard Tower shouted, "Don't you fear retaliation from the Three Great Forces?"
The Three Great Forces worked together to eradicate abyssal creatures, but surprisingly, members of the Demon Hunter Corps were attacking them.
"We're afraid!"
"Of course, we are!"
A cold voice echoed from a distance, accompanied by rustling sounds. A massive creature appeared, towering over three meters tall—a deformed giant with human faces covering its chest, back, and arms. The faces were twisted in grimaces, emitting low roars.
As the monster materialized, an oppressive and silent aura uncontrollably descended upon their hearts.
First-Circle Spell - Intimidate!
"Hundred-Face Demon!" someone cried in terror.
"You dare practice forbidden spells!" another shouted.
Wizardry was often bizarre, especially bloodline wizardry. Some spells were classified as forbidden due to their cruelty.
The Hundred-Face Demon was one such spell.
Practicing this spell required controlling a giant-blooded aberration and hunting down specific individuals.
The victims' faces were transplanted onto the aberration, eventually refining it.
"Who would know if we killed you?" the voice echoed again, calm and unhurried. "Kill them!"
The Hundred-Face Demon roared, and the ground beneath it exploded. It rushed forward, enveloping one of them in a cloud of black smoke.
The apprentice, overwhelmed by the intimidation spell, couldn't even think of resisting and was quickly swallowed by the smoke.
"Ah!"
"Crack... Crack..."
A sound like a beast devouring bones echoed, followed by a sudden halt in the screams.
The remaining two turned pale and fled without hesitation, casting various spells recklessly.
"You won't get away!" Barrasomu smirked, waving his hand. His apprentice and the Legendary Knight quickly gave chase.
Barrasomu, unhurried, strolled into the field, searching the corpses for useful items.
Magic stones, staves, runes, cores of abyssal creatures...
"Hey!"
"Hunting abyssal creatures is hard work. It's not as easy as this, especially for us."
Barrasomu smiled, holding the magic stone he had just acquired.
Apprentices of the Demon Hunter Corps were skilled in tracking and assassinating their own kind but had less advantage against abyssal creatures.
"Ah!"
A scream echoed from behind.
Hmm? Barrasomu recognized the voice—it seemed to be a comrade's cry.
"Boom!"
Before he could react, a violent psychic power swept through like a hurricane, scorching and fierce.
A Wizard!
Barrasomu's expression changed drastically, and he tried to dash away, only to feel his hands seized tightly.
A figure had appeared nearby, gripping his hands firmly.
"Sizzle..."
"Ah!"
An immense force tore his arms from his body, and his legs were sliced off by an unseen power.
Linen threw down the screaming Barrasomu and turned to the approaching Hundred-Face Demon. His gaze lingered on one of the faces—Susan?
