Chapter 343: Cedric is a Jinxed Mouth
Chapter 343: Cedric is a Jinxed Mouth
Sherlock’s words made a lot of sense.
However, Cedric, who was being squeezed under Sherlock’s arm and struggling to breathe, still managed to raise a question.
“But, Professor, all of this is based on the assumption that only those people are chasing us. I heard you call out that person’s name just now. He—he is the Dark Lord? If he were to act personally—”
Sherlock decisively cut him off.
“Shut your jinxed mouth! There’s no way that’s possible. If he had the ability to chase us, he would have done so from the start. He planned all of this to capture Harry and bring him here, intending to use him to restore his power. Now that Harry isn’t here, his plan has already failed.”
Despite Sherlock’s reassurance, Cedric still felt an inexplicable shiver run through his body. He suppressed the unexplained unease and muttered to himself, half as a self-comfort and half as a prayer.
“Okay, Professor, you’re right. The Dark Lord can’t possibly come here himself…”
But just as he finished speaking, the sky behind them suddenly darkened.
A thick black mist enveloped the ground, spreading like ink in water, steadily advancing towards Sherlock and Cedric. The darkness then coalesced in front of Sherlock, blocking his path.
Voldemort, having regained his full power after his resurrection, emerged from the darkness. All the black mist converged into his body, and he stood there, holding his wand. His noseless face bore a cold, cruel smile as he locked eyes with Sherlock.
Sherlock, who had already expended a significant amount of magic and energy, stopped in his tracks. He tried to steady his breathing and held Voldemort’s gaze without flinching.
The Death Eaters in the sky also ceased their attack on Sherlock. They landed their broomsticks and surrounded him, their wands all pointed at him.
A dozen transparent Armor Charms still flickered around Sherlock, and his wand floated nearby, moving erratically. He took a moment to glare down at Cedric and whispered a curse.
“You really did jinx us!”
Cedric hung his head in shame, feeling that this might indeed be his fault. He decided to keep his mouth shut from now on and not say another word.
Voldemort paid no attention to Sherlock’s small actions. His crimson eyes glinted with amusement, and he gently caressed the shaft of his wand.
“Sherlock Forest, you and your mother are so alike.”
Sherlock remained silent, focusing on finding a way out of this nearly hopeless situation. He had no interest in engaging in conversation with Voldemort, who seemed to be reminiscing about the past.
“She almost succeeded in her plan to assassinate me,” Voldemort’s voice was as cold and sharp as ever.
“Who would have thought she would use such a method? Unfortunately, she fell just short. Even though she sacrificed a part of her soul, it wasn’t enough to make up for it.”
Hearing this, Sherlock couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh.
“If she didn’t affect you at all, why are you so obsessed with killing me yourself? You’re just a more powerful wizard, not invincible.”
As he spoke, the wands floating around him began to move, but their target wasn't the Death Eaters or Voldemort in front of him. Instead, they aimed at Cedric, who was clutched under his arm.
No spell incantations were heard, yet the transfiguration cast by the dozen wands took effect immediately.
Cedric's body started to shrink, and his human form gradually transformed. Within five seconds, he had turned into an insect and fell into Sherlock's pocket.
Whatever happened next would undoubtedly be a fierce battle, and he couldn't afford to worry about Cedric's safety. The only solution was to temporarily transfigure him and hide him on his person.
Sherlock's transfiguration skills weren't as advanced as Dumbledore's or Professor Mcgonagall's. While temporary human transfiguration was less time-consuming and risky than becoming an Animagus, it still required intense concentration.
He hadn't had the time to use this technique while fleeing, but now that he had a moment to spare, he could ensure Cedric's safety.
At least, Cedric wouldn't die in front of his professor before Sherlock did.
Voldemort didn't interrupt Sherlock's actions. It wasn't out of any gentlemanly courtesy but rather because he was deeply intrigued by Sherlock's method of casting spells with multiple wands.
"Of course, I don't think I'm invincible. There are still a few ways to harm me, even if they are few."
"Is your technique of manipulating souls something your mother left you?"
Sherlock, having temporarily resolved the burden of Cedric, had adjusted his state of mind. The wands floating around him spread out like a hedgehog, their tips pointing outward to form a half-circle. Sherlock himself also held his wand, aiming it at Voldemort.
"If you want to learn, I can teach you in a real combat scenario."
Voldemort raised his hand to stop the nearby Death Eaters from interfering.
He fixed his gaze on Sherlock.
"It's been a long time since anyone has dared to speak to me like this. I've read your file; you seem to be a Ravenclaw graduate. Perhaps that foolish hat should have reconsidered and sent you to the House of arrogant fools."
"I won't let my subordinates attack you." He pointed to his head. "She is watching you now. I will kill her last mental support right in front of her, turning your so-called bravery into a futile effort!"
With Voldemort's words, the Death Eaters slowly lowered their wands. Even if some of them secretly doubted their master's judgment, no one dared to attack Sherlock.
They all stepped back a few paces, creating a space large enough for Sherlock and Voldemort to battle.
"Avada Kedavra!"
Without any warning, Voldemort's Killing Curse shot from the tip of his wand!
Sherlock knew the correct way to counter the Killing Curse. As soon as Voldemort's spell incantation rang out, numerous fragments of stone were drawn to his front, forming a barrier that blocked the curse.
But along with the Killing Curse, an endless black mist also surged toward Sherlock!
