Now, Liam makes sure to spend some time with Rose Crystal every day, a habit he developed after returning from the World of Ice and Fire. Perhaps it’s just an illusion, but Liam feels that Rose Crystal is becoming more and more like a human.
A few days later, as Liam was heading downstairs after his Arithmancy and Divination classes, he heard from a classmate that Harry had experienced a nightmare during Divination that made his scar hurt. This piqued Liam’s curiosity, especially since Voldemort had already been resurrected. What did Harry’s dream signify?
To his surprise, Harry came to him not long after. As Liam was returning to the Common Room after dinner, he saw Ginny pulling Harry over and telling him, “Liam, Harry fell asleep during Divination today and woke up screaming, clutching his scar. Professor Trelawney said it was a portent!”
Harry seemed a bit embarrassed, feeling that his nightmare was drawing too much attention. However, under Ginny’s insistence, he had no choice but to ask for help. Harry was adamant, though, that he wouldn’t bother Dumbledore or Sirius Black over such a minor issue. With no other options, Ginny turned to Liam for advice.
“Ginny, I need to tell you something—” Hermione, at Liam’s signal, found an excuse to pull Ginny away. Sure enough, once the girls were gone, Harry looked visibly relieved.
Being scared by a dream and screaming was embarrassing, especially when he had to recount it to his girlfriend. Besides, the dream was indeed strange, and he didn’t want Ginny to worry.
Once they found a quiet corner in the Common Room and sat down, Liam asked in a calm tone, “Alright, Harry. Can you tell me what you saw? Maybe I can help.”
Harry looked a bit uncomfortable, so Liam tried a different approach. “We’re both Triwizard Tournament champions, and while the tournament isn’t as important now, it’s still better to do well. To do that, you need to be in the best possible state. Don’t keep this to yourself.”
“Alright,” Harry agreed, “I was in Divination class this afternoon, but, uh— I fell asleep.” He looked a bit sheepish at this.
“I understand,” Liam said with a smile. “From what I’ve heard, the number of people who fall asleep in Divination is second only to Professor Binns’s History of Magic class.”
“Yeah, I fell asleep, and then I had a dream,” Harry continued. “I think I saw Voldemort. I heard his voice, just like the night he was resurrected. There was also a large snake. They were in a room filled with stuff, and several people were lying on the ground. I was watching from the side, but I couldn’t do anything. Then the snake opened its mouth and lunged at someone lying on the ground, and my scar started to hurt. It got worse and worse until it woke me up.”
“Is that all?” Liam asked after a few seconds, seeing that Harry had stopped speaking.
“Yeah, that’s it,” Harry confirmed. “I just don’t understand why my scar hurts, and why I can sense what seems to be Voldemort’s activity.”
“The person who performed the resurrection used your blood, so there might be some kind of mysterious connection between you and him,” Liam explained vaguely, thinking it was too early to tell Harry about the Horcruxes. “However, because of this connection, your dream isn’t a small matter. You should tell Headmaster Dumbledore immediately.”
Seeing Harry’s reluctance, Liam added more urgency to his tone. “Headmaster Dumbledore has been trying to find that person, but without much success, as he’s as good at hiding as Viper. Any clue, including your dream, could be very useful. You can’t let embarrassment or shyness get in the way of something important—”
This kind of appeal to a higher cause resonated with Harry, and his resistance faded.
“I’m going to see the Headmaster.” After saying goodbye to Liam, Harry left the Common Room. It seemed he needed to have a serious talk with Professor Dumbledore about this.
“How did it go?” Seeing Harry leave, Ginny and Hermione walked over and asked.
“I managed to convince him. He’s going to see Professor Dumbledore now. I’m sure the Headmaster will be able to resolve his issues,” Liam reassured Ginny, who looked somewhat uneasy.
“That’s a relief.” Ginny visibly relaxed. Having grown up in the Wizarding World and with parents who were members of the Order of the Phoenix, she had heard many stories about Professor Dumbledore since childhood. Knowing that Harry was going to see Professor Dumbledore finally put her mind at ease.
After leaving the Common Room, Harry headed straight for the Headmaster’s Office. Although he didn’t know the password, the gargoyle guarding the entrance moved aside after he stood there for a few seconds.
Harry hurried through the opening in the wall, climbed the spiral stone staircase, and the door closed behind him. The staircase slowly ascended, bringing him to a gleaming oak door with a brass knocker.
“This must be true. There is indeed a mysterious connection between me and Voldemort, and Professor Dumbledore is monitoring it.” The automatic opening of the staircase to the Headmaster’s Office made Harry think a lot, and what happened next confirmed his suspicions.
As he reached for the knocker, the door opened on its own. Through the open door, Harry saw Dumbledore sitting in his large chair, smiling warmly at him. “Welcome, my boy. What brings you here today?”
Harry recounted the details of his dream, and Dumbledore’s expression grew increasingly serious as he listened, asking many questions about the specifics.
“Liam thinks it might be because Voldemort used my blood during his resurrection, creating a mysterious connection between us,” Harry concluded, repeating what Liam had said.
“Ah, yes, that’s quite possible. Sometimes the power contained in blood can create a mysterious bond between two wizards,” Dumbledore paused, then nodded in agreement.
“However, there’s no need to worry.” Dumbledore reassured Harry, who looked troubled. “I believe it’s likely that Voldemort accidentally showed you a fragment of his memory during a moment of intense emotion. After all, his resurrection had many complications.”
Dumbledore then showed Harry some memories in his Pensieve. Since Voldemort had already returned, exposing Harry to these memories could be considered a form of preparation. The memories included the trials of Bagman, Karkaroff, Snape, and even Barty Crouch Jr. Dumbledore also told Harry that those who were believed to be innocent were never accused of any dark magic activities afterward.
“The spell Voldemort cast on you as a baby, which failed, and the use of your blood in the resurrection ritual have created a connection between you. So there’s no need to be overly anxious about this,” Dumbledore summarized.
With Dumbledore’s explanation, Harry gradually calmed down. By the time he opened the brass door of the Headmaster’s Office, his mood had brightened like the weather outside.
“Harry,” Dumbledore called out just as he was about to leave, “please don’t tell anyone about Neville’s parents being tortured into madness by the Death Eater Bellatrix. It’s something he should share when he’s ready.”
“Of course, Professor,” Harry replied, turning to go.
“And one more thing—”
“Please inform Liam to come here at eight o’clock tonight. Finally, I wish you the best of luck in the final task of the Tournament.”
