Chapter 341: One's Fate Must Be Controlled by Oneself
Chapter 341: One’s Fate Must Be Controlled by Oneself
“What’s…”
The pale morning light filtered in as Luo Wei opened his eyes, his entire body aching. Before him stood a sterile infirmary.
“He’s awake, he’s awake!”
A crisp voice rang out, and Kerla leaned closer, asking, “Are you okay, Luo Wei?”
“Kerla?”
Luo Wei shifted slightly, triggering waves of pain that made him suck in a sharp breath. His body felt sluggish, and only now did he notice his limbs were wrapped in bandages.
He remembered—the ambush by Rita.
That technique…
“A thousand strikes in an instant?”
Luo Wei held up his trembling hands, staring blankly. He recognized traces of his own martial cultivation principles within that attack, something he should have grasped instantly. Yet now, no matter how he analyzed it, the secret eluded him.
“Wait—where’s Luo Shen? Where are we?!” Luo Wei suddenly snapped out of his daze, realizing this wasn’t the time to dwell on martial arts.
“Gone.”
Sabo stood by the door, arms folded. “When we arrived, there was no sign of him—no aura, nothing. Chances are, he’s dead. Killed by Lucius Kro himself.”
Luo Wei’s eyes widened as he whispered, “Dead?”
That indomitable figure, the ruler of Tui Town and the patriarch of the Luo Family for decades, feared by all—gone.
Part of Luo Wei refused to believe it. Yet his current physical state left no room for doubt.
His ability to grasp martial cultivation techniques had vanished entirely.
“Sabo, could you demonstrate your Dragon Claws Fist once?” Luo Wei turned to Sabo.
“Huh?”
Sabo stiffened defensively. “What, you think you Luo Family can just steal unarmed combat techniques by watching once? You want to learn my Dragon Claws?”
“Please!” Luo Wei’s voice turned urgent.
Sabo hesitated. He’d known Luo Wei for only a short time, but he knew this man’s pride—he never bowed his head, never said the word ‘please.’
“I understand.”
Sabo exhaled, nodding reluctantly. He curled his fingers, aligning his index and middle fingers while joining his pinky and ring finger, forming a claw-like shape. “Once only. Watch carefully!”
Whoosh!
The air split with a sharp whistle.
With a single strike, Sabo’s claw seemed to tear through the air, whipping the nearby curtains violently.
Luo Wei saw it clearly.
The Dragon Claws Fist—a technique honed through years of training to harden fingers into unyielding weapons. Yet this time, he couldn’t absorb it.
He could see the movements because of his martial cultivation prowess, but the hunger to master it had vanished.
That missing desperation toward unarmed combat techniques…
It confirmed it.
Luo Shen was gone.
“Luo Wei, the king’s under our control now, and Luo Shen’s disappeared. According to the plan, you should take the throne of Insect Country. Are you ready?” Sabo asked, studying him.
“Ah, that stuff doesn’t matter anymore. Do whatever you want.”
Luo Wei waved a hand dismissively. “I’m exhausted. Let me rest.”
“Fine. We’ll come back when you’re refreshed. There’s still much to handle.” Sabo nodded, ushering Kerla out.
“Gone… really gone…”
Once they left, Luo Wei’s body trembled. His shaking hands unconsciously reached for his face.
His expression was unreadable, but a sound escaped his lips—half a sob, half a laugh. Whether mourning the loss of his martial hunger or rejoicing at the collapse of that oppressive darkness, no one could tell.
“Hey, Sabo, what’s wrong with Luo Wei? He doesn’t seem happy. Isn’t becoming king his dream?” Kerla asked as they walked out.
Sabo gazed into the distance, lost in thought. “Perhaps… our perspectives differ.”
Shaking his head, he continued, “Regardless, we’ve saved a nation. Luo Wei will keep his promise. The civilians here won’t suffer as before. They could even become a military force for our Revolutionary Army. Now, it’s Beti’s turn.”
“Twin-Horse Kingdom?”
Kerla blinked. “Isn’t that Lucius Kro’s base? Was Beti already there?”
“Pegasus Island and Twin-Horse Kingdom aren’t the same. Even if Lucius Kro seeks aid, he can’t return in time. By the time he does, Twin-Horse Kingdom will be liberated.”
Sabo’s lips curled slightly. “The moment I knew that man was coming here, I ordered Beti to act in Twin-Horse Kingdom. With no interference, we’ll reap rich rewards from our campaign in West Blue, no matter how things unfold.”
It took days to sail from Pegasus Island. Days enough for Beti to make her move.
…
Twin-Horse Kingdom, once a two-island nation, was unremarkable except for its proximity to Reverse Mountain. Pirates entering the Grand Line often used it as a base for supplies.
After wartime devastation, Twin-Horse Kingdom ceded Pegasus Island to the World Government in exchange for support. The civilians there were abandoned to their fate.
Beti hadn’t come to overthrow the kingdom entirely. Twin-Horse lacked strength, but she aimed to ignite rebellion.
“Why should the strong dominate freely while the weak suffer endlessly?”
In Twin-Horse Kingdom, Beti, wearing a red hat and sunglasses, stood atop a downed pirate, rallying the gathered civilians:
“Are you cowards for being weak? Will you let pirates plunder you without resistance?!”
Her gloved hand pointed toward a group of nervous pirates hesitating to advance.
Her red long-sleeved vest hung open, her ample chest swaying with movement. But no one noticed now.
All eyes followed Beti’s gestures toward the pirates.
“Are they strong? No! They’re mere mortals like you, armed with weapons. But you outnumber them a hundredfold. Why flee? Do you wait endlessly for a hero? Heroes bleed, starve, and fear bullets too. They’re just braver than you!”
“Find courage! This is your home. Why let pirates ravage it? Why watch them loot without lifting a hand? Courage alone can drive them out. No more begging for salvation—you can save yourselves!”
“You’re trash, no doubt. Those too timid to defend their homes, to grasp a weapon, deserve that title. But even trash, even the weak, have the right to choose!”
“Fate belongs to your own hands. Choose!”
Beti’s voice rang like thunder:
“Will you wait to die passively, or fight to expel these pirates from your homeland? Heroes aren’t always others—you can be your own hero by wielding a weapon and daring to act!”
“I…”
Her words carried a strange power. A civilian stood frozen, then slowly picked up a stone fragment, gripping it tightly. Strength surged through his body in that moment.
“I’ll be my own hero! I’ll protect my home!”
His roar ignited the crowd. Stones, farming tools, and makeshift weapons flashed as the civilians turned on the pirates.
“Hey, what’s this woman doing? What can these civilians do with sticks and stones?”
A pirate tightened his grip on his blade, glaring at Beti.
They hesitated not from fear of numbers but from the woman who’d single-handedly defeated half their crew.
“The Navy! The Navy’s here!”
A sudden shout erupted as a warship appeared on the horizon.
Onboard, a Navy officer lowered his telescope, saluting Kas. “Lieutenant Kas, we’ve spotted the pirate ship. They must be the ones plundering Twin-Horse Kingdom!”
Kas nodded, unsheathing his saber with a roar. “For Justice! Let us destroy these pirates and uphold the Navy’s honor!”
