Chapter 341: Departure to the Dragon Reserve
Chapter 341: Departure to the Dragon Reserve
The following morning, Kyle descended the stairs for breakfast and found Newt already seated at the table, chatting with Diana.
The house-elf, Dobby, bustled about in the kitchen, tirelessly serving fried eggs, sausages, and toasted bread...
"Good morning, dears," Diana greeted them warmly. She adjusted Kyle's collar, "Let's have breakfast quickly; you'll be leaving soon."
"Good morning..." Kyle greeted them both before picking up a slice of bread and asking, "Are we leaving this early?"
"Yes, we need to leave in ten minutes," Diana replied.
Newt smiled and explained, "They sent me another letter last night, saying Pino... the Ukrainian Ironbelly, has a broken wing. The dragon keepers had to relocate him, and the Reserve is in chaos. Even the usually docile dragons are caught up in the turmoil."
Kyle hastened to finish his meal.
Meanwhile, Newt and Diana continued their previous conversation.
"It's surprising that Black managed to escape," Diana remarked.
"I believe he must have discovered the Dementors' weakness... They sense their surroundings through emotions, and while there aren't many ways to escape them, it's not impossible," Newt said.
Diana poured him a cup of tea, "And the Ministry relied too heavily on Dementors. There were only two Aurors on such a large island."
"True," Newt took a sip of tea, "But it's still an impressive feat. No one has ever escaped before."
"Perhaps," Diana glanced out the window, "Who knows..."
Kyle quietly ate his breakfast, remaining silent.
A week earlier... The Daily Prophet, in an attempt to encourage more people to participate in the lottery, had featured the Weasley family again.
In the photograph, they stood in front of a massive pyramid, including Ron's half-dead rat...
By the time Kyle finished his breakfast, it was almost time to leave.
Newt took out a glass bottle.
"Portkey, you should know how to use it," he said.
Kyle nodded and placed his hand on the bottle.
Newt glanced at his watch.
A few seconds later, a whirlwind enveloped them, and both men vanished from the room.
To be honest, after getting used to Apparition, traveling by Portkey was relatively gentle.
Upon arrival, Kyle landed steadily, straightening his wind-tousled hair and shirt.
"Welcome, Mr. Scamander... Oh, Kyle, I didn't recognize you at first," a voice called out from the side.
Kyle looked up and found himself in a vast valley, facing a burly man who stared at him in surprise.
"Charlie!" Kyle exclaimed, equally taken aback.
The man before him was Charlie Weasley, looking more robust than two years ago, with a large burn scar on his exposed arm.
They embraced briefly, and Kyle blurted out, "What are you doing here?"
However, he immediately regretted asking the question... It was like asking why Professor McGonagall was at Hogwarts.
Charlie understood Kyle's intention and smiled, explaining, "I'm here to welcome Mr. Scamander. So, you're his assistant now?"
He looked at Newt.
There was no response...
From the start, Newt had been fixated on the enormous figures soaring in the sky.
Charlie didn't find the situation awkward; he had hosted Newt twice before and was accustomed to such scenarios.
Fortunately, this time, there was an additional person.
"Yes, I'm Mr. Scamander's assistant," Kyle confirmed, extending his hand. "Shouldn't be a problem, right?"
"Of course not, Mr. Assistant," Charlie assured him.
"Charlie smiled and shook his hand, "After all, you're already fourteen, right... Did you receive the gift I sent?"
"It's a great gift. I've never seen such a large dragon tooth before."
"Old Pino has been shedding his teeth faster these years, and I picked the biggest one for you."
Charlie led Kyle to a nearby field where some people had already gathered.
Kyle saw Professor Kettleburn, who had been living in Hogsmeade after his retirement and was also invited to this event.
Standing next to him was a tall wizard with a bushy beard.
Professor Kettleburn was already considered tall, but standing next to him, he only reached the other wizard's shoulders.
The other wizard seemed to be over two meters tall.
"Edward Lima," Charlie whispered, "Peru's famous magical creature master, who lived with the Peruvian Vipertooth for ten years."
Upon hearing this name, Kyle suddenly froze.
He remembered that this man was the author of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," and he had seen him in that book.

It seemed that this person, like Hagrid, had a soft spot for more ferocious-looking magical creatures.
"Hey, Newt, you're here!"
Professor Kettleburn walked over and, from a distance, laughed heartily, "I guessed you'd bring this kid over... It's been a while, Kyle."
"It's been a while, Professor."
"Don't say that. I'm no longer a professor." Professor Kettleburn waved his hand, "I'm just an ordinary retired old man now."
"Ordinary retired folks wouldn't travel all the way here to see dragons." Kyle smiled.
"Hello."
At this moment, the tall Edward Lima also walked over and greeted Kyle politely.
"I've heard of you, the youngest member of the Merlin Order. I didn't expect you to be interested in dragons, too."
His accent was very standard, and he didn't have any unusual accent.
It must be said that magical creature masters who travel far and wide have excellent language skills.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Lima." Kyle said, "I've read your book."
"Oh?"
He looked a little surprised, "Do you even read such niche books?"
In Britain, his book could indeed be considered niche, as the wizards there preferred "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."
"In fact, 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' is this year's textbook at Hogwarts." Kyle explained.
"Is that so..." He glanced at Newt with a teasing look and said in a proud tone, "It seems you have a new professor with a unique perspective."
"This perspective isn't that great." Newt replied with a smile.
Then, they hugged each other, obviously old friends.
Newt became more talkative after seeing his acquaintances, and he chatted happily with them.
Charlie took Kyle around the area, introducing him to the situation at the Dragon Reserve.
"The closest one to us is the Swedish Short-Snout Dragon. There are seven of them, the only place that isn't as lively.
But it's only temporary..."
He pointed to a pillar of fire rising into the sky not far away.
Providing a pillar of fire that lasted all night...
I only have one request for you. Later, don't get weak in the knees. It would be embarrassing if you accidentally sat down on the ground."
"That won't happen." Kyle said.
"I hope so..." Charlie smiled and patted Kyle's shoulder, "I actually wanted to see that scene—a Second-Class Medal recipient of the Merlin Order, scared stiff by dragons.
It's incredible. Last year, after receiving a letter from my mother, I thought she was joking with me.
The Merlin Order Medal... I never expected that you would achieve such a great honor right after graduating."
