Chapter 340: Shadows Stir
Before the city gate of Cang Zhou Fu, several figures clad in plain attire stood tall, their postures rigid, radiating an eerie, cold aura.
"Cang Zhou Fu," one of them said, gazing at the gate, "our intelligence confirms that months ago, a young man once slaughtered recklessly here, eradicating an entire Xian Tian Jing family. Though the youth's appearance and build differ greatly from the one who slew Xuan Ming and the others in Sheng Cheng, the trail we've followed suggests he may well be the same individual who caused such chaos in Sheng Cheng."
"The report from Sheng Cheng indicates this youth is surnamed Lu and has close ties with Tian Ji Lou," added another. "And over two years ago, Tian Ji Lou held its final Qian Long Bang. Among the standout prodigies that time, there was a young man surnamed Lu—this very Cang Zhou native."
"Two years ago, he was only Jin Gu Jing. Now, less than three years later, he’s already reached Xian Tian, triggered a Jie Lei, and survived the Heavenly Tribulation with no sign of weakness. He just broke through the cultivation barrier and immediately defeated Xuan Ming and even bested the Third Holy Lord. Who would have thought such a prodigy could emerge in the outside world? The Heaven and Earth Rules are still only beginning to stabilize, yet he’s already managed to endure the Heavenly Tribulation—truly a demon-born talent."
A third figure spoke, awe in his voice. "This is exactly what the Lord spoke of—Tian Di Bian Hua, the moment when Qi Yun shifts during Qi Lu Fu Su. The celestial Qi will realign, birthing countless Qi Yun Zhi Zi. But only those born in the outer world can truly receive the mark of Heaven’s Qi. This Lu youth must be one born with a great destiny, a natural heir of vast Qi."
"Yet I doubt it’s just about inherited Qi," another said, eyes narrowing. "There must be more to him. Otherwise, how could he defy all natural laws and grow so fast?"
The others nodded, their expressions brightening with interest—except the leader, who spoke coldly: "Don’t entertain any illusions. Regardless of what secrets he hides, he’s now beyond our reach. Before we left, the leader made it clear: our mission is only to uncover the truth behind Xuan Ming’s death and assess the current state of the world. No distractions. Understood?"
"Yes!" The others replied sharply, their voices tinged with caution. Though each of them considered themselves elite, none dared show disrespect to the man before them—because their entire strength had been forged by him.
"Yu Chang Lao," one asked, "what now?"
"Enter the city first. See if we can learn anything about him."
The figures quieted their auras and slipped into the city like shadows. Though Cang Zhou Fu was heavily guarded, to these mysterious figures, the defenses were as nothing.
Once inside, they split up, each taking separate routes to gather intelligence.
That night, the silhouettes leapt down from the city wall and landed in the wilderness.
"Well? Any progress?" one asked.
"Nothing. I interrogated a few noble wastrels, but got no useful leads."
"Same here. I tortured a family patriarch with extreme methods, but he still claimed ignorance of the youth’s true identity."
"I questioned officials at the City Lord’s residence. Still nothing."
After exchanging reports, they realized: no one in Cang Zhou Fu knew the origin of the youth named Lu Qing from Qian Long Bang.
"Not a single soul in the entire city knows who this Lu Qing is?" one murmured, puzzled. "Could he not even be from Cang Zhou?"
"Impossible," Yu Chang Lao shook his head. "Qian Long Bang is linked to the unseen Qi Yun path. Tian Ji Lou wouldn’t leave an error in its records."
"There’s only one explanation," he continued. "The boy’s true cultivation realm isn’t within the city. It must be hidden in some remote, secluded place."
"Yu Chang Lao, what should we do now?"
"Move on. Search elsewhere. Have you cleaned up your traces?"
"All done. By the time they discover the bodies, we’ll be far beyond their reach."
"Good."
The figures vanished into the night.
It wasn’t until deep into the night that chaos erupted within the city.
A noble family discovered their patriarch had been murdered in a dry well, his body drained of blood, all without a sound.
Other factions found their disciples dead in their rooms, servants and maids slain in their sleep.
Even high-ranking guards at the City Lord’s residence were found lifeless, their deaths as silent as the grave.
The entire Cang Zhou Fu trembled. The City Lord was roused from his slumber, but it was too late—no clues remained. The killers had long vanished, far beyond the city’s reach.
Lu Qing, of course, knew nothing of the turmoil.
Since successfully setting up the Array, his life had once again grown peaceful. He spent his days cultivating, occasionally checking on the Medicinal Field.
With Ju Ling Bei continuously gathering Earth Qi and Qi, the field transformed daily. Within just a few days, the spiritual energy had thickened to the point where it rivaled that of Qinglong City.
And among all, the most delighted was the Thousand-Year Ginseng.
Bathed in the dual nourishment of rich Earth Qi and spiritual essence, its body seemed to plump slightly. Its spiritual intelligence even showed faint signs of awakening.
By the fifth day, Lu Qing sensed that Ju Ling Bei had reached its peak—no more Qi could be gathered.
But he was already satisfied.
After all, Ju Ling Bei was merely a Jade Stone fused through ordinary means. It had limits. That it had gathered Qi to this degree was already exceptional.
So, once he confirmed the limit, he immediately began clearing the remaining plots of land beside the Medicinal Field.
"Senior 'Yan'," Lu Qing asked, "now that the spirit fields are ready, what should we plant first?"
"Yan," a being older than time itself, revered in the Lihuo Sect and a master of alchemy and cultivation, was the kind of elder who, by ancient wisdom, deserved to be listened to.
"You’ve just cultivated these fields. The foundation is still shallow, the spiritual resonance weak. Precious herbs won’t survive here yet. I suggest you start with Ling Gu."
"Ah, Ling Gu?" Lu Qing asked.
"Indeed," the voice replied. "Though Ling Gu may seem unremarkable compared to rare herbs, it’s easy to grow and its spiritual essence is gentle—perfectly suited for absorption. I suspect you’re cultivating the foundation for Xiao Yan. Ling Gu is ideal for nourishing her body."
