Chapter 34: The Mysterious Pokemon
Chapter 34: The Mysterious Pokemon
On his last trip to town, Naoki had purchased six Poke Balls. After using one on Motostoke, he had five remaining.
This meant he could bring five Pokemon back to the ranch today.
"One Tropius, two each of Wooloo and Goathoof, and two Salandit. Perfect! Oh, wait, I still need a Pokemon that knows Rain Dance and Water Gun." Naoki mused to himself.
Of course, if these Pokemon didn't want to be caught, he wouldn't force them. It was important that they join him willingly, or they might not cooperate back at the ranch. The Pokemon's willingness was a crucial factor.
Naoki circled the area, observing the wild Pokemon species and their habitats from the sky. He wasn't in a rush to capture any just yet; a qualified ranch owner needed to have patience. After all, good things come to those who wait.
Just then, Naoki heard someone calling out. He looked in the direction of the voice and spotted a young man with a backpack and binoculars standing on a watchtower in the distance, vigorously waving at him.
"Hey, you over there! Hey, buddy, over here!"
Naoki was slightly taken aback. Was he calling him? After a moment's thought, he instructed the Corviknight beneath him, "Go take a look."
"Caw!" Corviknight responded and turned to fly toward the watchtower standing by the lake.
As Corviknight drew closer, the man also got a clear view of its appearance. His attention was instantly captured, his eyes widening in surprise and curiosity. "What Pokemon is that?"
Corviknight gave him a sidelong glance. "Caw?"
"He's called Corviknight," Naoki introduced from beside him.
"Corviknight?" Hearing this name, the man quickly picked up a book that had been lying on the ground and began flipping through the pages hurriedly. Soon, his eyes widened in astonishment.
"A Pokemon not listed in the Pokedex! This must be a newly discovered Pokemon! Amazing!" The man, named Yosuke, exclaimed as he studied Corviknight intently.
Corviknight shot him a disdainful look.
Seeing the man's infatuated expression, Naoki asked, "Did you call me for something?"
Yosuke snapped out of his trance and quickly introduced himself, "My name is Yosuke, and I'm from the distant Galar region. Currently, I'm traveling through the Pardea region to research the local Pokemon ecology!"
He wore an embarrassed expression as he continued, "I apologize for calling out to you like that. I just saw you riding that Pokemon in the sky, and I got excited."
"But I have to say, the Pokemon ecology in Pardea is fascinating! I've been staying in this watchtower for half a month now, and I've already discovered forty-eight different species of Pokemon!"
As he spoke, Yosuke crouched down and pulled out a sketchbook from his bag, which was lying casually beside him. "Look, these are all Pokemon I've drawn myself! The book contains detailed records of their ecological habits and habitats!"
Witnessing this, Naoki's heart stirred. The scope of Great-Maw Lake was vast, and he wasn't entirely sure about the appearance patterns of the local Pokemon. Could he perhaps gain some insight into rare and infrequently spotted Pokemon from this man?
Naoki reached out and took the offered sketchbook, casually flipping to a page that depicted a Pokemon from the Galar region—a Sirfetch'd.
It was a tall Pokemon with a kind and benevolent smile on its face. Standing beside it was a young boy with short hair who appeared rather youthful.
Sirfetch'd... This was a legendary Pokemon! Naoki was astonished.
"A trainer and their Pokemon?" Naoki guessed.
"Wrong!" Yosuke shook his head, his eyebrows furrowed in excitement. "They're father and son!"
Naoki was stunned. His first reaction was that it couldn't be possible...
But Yosuke seemed to guess what he was thinking and said, "It's quite a surprise, isn't it? But it's true. I encountered them in the Galar region, and it was they who made me realize that there are other possibilities between humans and Pokemon."
"I was quite startled at first! Later, I learned that the child had been abandoned when he was young and drifted along the river to where this Sirfetch'd lived, and it took him in."
"A human and a Pokemon, a father and a son, I never imagined such a thing could exist in this world!"
As he spoke, Yosuke's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm.
Naoki thought to himself that it wasn't a big deal. He had even heard of humans marrying Pokemon! Like Sanders, the female Machamp, who were regular customers.
He didn't pay too much attention to this matter and instead focused on the handmade book in front of him.
At this moment, Yosuke leaned over and asked, "Can I draw this Pokemon? As payment, I can make you my specialty—a sandwich that even Pokemon rave about! Please!"
Naoki: "..."
He waved his hand casually and then sat cross-legged, "Go ahead."
The man was very excited. "Thank you!"
He took out another half-used handmade book and a pencil from his backpack, sat on the ground, and began to sketch Golurk's figure with great concentration.
Only then did Naoki notice that the handmade book in his hand was already filled with drawings.
"Graaa..."
Hearing Golurk's call, Naoki looked up and saw it stiffening, looking at him pitifully.
Naoki was about to say something when Yosuke said, "Don't be too tense. Just sit in the most relaxed and natural posture."
So Naoki beckoned to Golurk, who lay down next to him and rested its big head on his lap.
Seeing this, Yosuke's eyes lit up. "Good, very good! That's the perfect pose! This Pokemon trusts you a lot!"
Naoki chuckled and scratched Golurk's chin before flipping through the handmade book, browsing through the Pokemon ecology around Great-Maw Lake.
There were indeed more Pokemon in this area than he had imagined.
In addition to the ones he had discovered outside, there were also gentle Mareil, the softly feathered Wooloo, the White-cloud Woobat that lived in damp caves, and the pink-haired giant Durasteel that wielded a hammer...
The book was written from Yosuke's perspective. Apart from the Pokemon he recognized, there were also some shrouded in mist, revealing only vague silhouettes.
Next to the silhouettes was a question mark, indicating that even Yosuke hadn't seen these rare Pokemon.
Naoki couldn't identify some of the silhouettes, but as he flipped through the pages, he suddenly came across a familiar outline.
It seemed to be a cliff, shrouded in mist at the top, and within the mist was the shadow of a Pokemon.
The Pokemon's body was large and round.
Next to it was also a question mark.
Below the question mark was a description.
[Unknown Pokemon, arrives here punctually at 7 p.m. every evening, meditates here until 5 a.m. the next morning, and then flies back out to sea. Unfortunately, the cliff is too high for me to climb, and I can't see its appearance clearly, only a vague shadow.]
