Chapter 339: Nico Robin
Chapter 339: Nico Robin
In the world of One Piece.
The Grand Line.
In a slightly dim alley, a small figure of a girl, around eleven years old, was running swiftly. She carried two bags, one filled with vegetables and meat, and the other with fruits. Panting, she rushed to a door, pushed it open, and stepped inside.
The room beyond was lit.
Walking down the corridor, she soon reached a spacious living room, neatly tidied and spotlessly clean.
On the sofa in the living room sat a person reading a book. This person had silver-white hair and eyes that shone with a cerulean light, and their beauty was enough to captivate countless young girls.
"Why are you in such a hurry?"
Feng Ye lowered his book and glanced at the girl who had burst into the living room.
The girl, Robin, was eleven years old. He had 'picked her up' by chance when he arrived in this world. However, her young and tender body held a value comparable to gold.
Yes.
This might sound strange, but it was the truth.
Because her name was—Nico Robin! The Demon Child, Nico Robin!
Currently, she had a bounty of 79 million berries on her head by the World Government. Even in the first half of the Grand Line, very few people had such a high bounty!
At such a young age and with her small stature, having such a high bounty meant that every inch of her being was worth a fortune—a very apt description.
"Huff... huff..."
Eleven-year-old Robin put down her bags and caught her breath. A gleam flashed in her dark eyes as she said, "I encountered a few stray dogs..."
She had met Feng Ye six months ago.
Back then, her new employer had recognized her identity and betrayed her, intending to hand her over to the navy for the bounty. Upon discovering this, she had fled, but she was injured during her escape. In her panic, she had run into a room and then passed out.
When she woke up, she found herself lying on a bed, her injuries healed, and her bloodstained clothes replaced with a fresh, white blouse.
After leaving the room.
She had met Feng Ye.
Sensing that Feng Ye didn't seem to recognize her identity as the 'Demon Child', and believing that he was a good person for healing her wounds, she immediately pretended to be a homeless orphan and begged him to take her in. She even offered to do any odd jobs, including cooking, which she claimed to be skilled at.
Feng Ye, however, sensed that Robin had realized he didn't know who she really was.
Finding this amusing, he agreed to take her in, and so half a year passed.
"Stray dogs?"
Feng Ye smiled at Robin's words.
Of course, there were no stray dogs; it was just Robin's excuse. The truth was that while she was out shopping, someone had noticed her resemblance to the person on the wanted poster—the 'Demon Child'. So, they had quietly followed her, wanting to confirm their suspicion.
Upon realizing this, Robin had quickly turned into an alley, ran in circles to lose her tail, and then hurried back.
Feng Ye didn't call her out on her lie.
Instead, he put down his book and looked at Robin with a slightly reproachful expression. "Then why did you still carry all these things and run back here? If you encounter such a situation again, just drop the things and run. Even if they catch up and bite you, although I can heal you, it will still cause you some pain."
Feng Ye's words warmed Robin's heart, but she bit her lip and forced a smile. "I still have to complete the tasks you assigned me, Doctor. Besides, I ran very fast, and those stray dogs couldn't catch up with me.
But... once they learned of her identity, things changed immediately because she was just too valuable. Seventy-nine million berries was an amount that most people could not earn in their entire lives, and even many wealthy individuals didn't possess such a fortune!
Money could make people betray.
One by one, those who had offered her shelter transformed, revealing their ugly, sinister natures as they sought to capture her and claim the hefty bounty.
During her time with Feng Ye, he had always treated her well, just like all the others who had taken her in. But she didn't know how long she could keep her identity hidden.
Perhaps one day, Feng Ye would suddenly see her wanted poster, then notice the resemblance between her and the Demon Child, and eventually find a way to confirm her identity. He, too, would end up like all the others.
The only consolation was that Feng Ye rarely went out, and although he always read the newspaper, there hadn't been anything about her in the papers recently.
In that case, her identity was unlikely to be easily exposed.
"It's just some vegetables. It doesn't matter if stray dogs eat them; we can always buy more." Feng Ye reached out and ruffled Robin's hair, flashing her a gentle smile.
Robin's cheeks flushed, and she averted her gaze. "I'll go cook now."
As she said this, she stepped back, picked up the bag with the vegetables and meat, and headed toward the kitchen.
Feng Ye was different from anyone she had ever met before. His handsome face and deep blue eyes, like a starry night sky, seemed like something out of a fairy tale.
If she hadn't gone through the tragedy of Ohara, the two years of fleeing and betrayal, and other dark events, the eleven-year-old her might not have been able to resist Feng Ye's charm.
But even so, Feng Ye's occasional gentle words and looks still affected her, and she had to constantly remind herself of her identity—that she wasn't an ordinary person, but the Demon Child wanted by the World Government, unable to lead a normal life.
"..."
Watching little Robin walk towards the kitchen, Feng Ye offered a soft smile.
He retracted his gaze and looked at the table in front of him. The deep blue light in his eyes suddenly flickered and silently condensed into a pattern of a blue six-pointed star.
"Finally, it's fully recovered."
Sensing the changes within himself, Feng Ye exhaled in relief.
After arriving in this world, the power of the Illusionary Clock remained unchanged, and the abilities of the four notches could still be used normally. However, the power of the World Tree Fruit he obtained from the Naruto world had been severely suppressed and was incompatible with this world.
But as time passed, this suppression gradually lessened, and his power slowly integrated with this world. After half a year, he could no longer sense any suppression at all.
The pattern of the blue six-pointed star slowly rotated.
The teacup on the table floated up quietly and landed in Feng Ye's hand, from which he took a sip.
Once again, he smiled.
