Chapter 339: Apparition
Chapter 339: Apparition
Fred was right; they couldn't change their plans.
Early the next morning, the Weasley family set off to visit Bill as planned.
The Burrow, once bustling with activity, suddenly became quiet, and Kyle felt a bit disoriented.
With a week left until August, and Fred and George away, Kyle sought out Chris to find something to do and pass the time.
"You want to learn Apparition?"
"Yes," Kyle nodded. "Is it possible?"
"Can you tell me why?" Chris asked, puzzled. "You shouldn't need it now... Hogwarts doesn't allow Apparition, and you don't need it to get home."
Moreover, the Ministry of Magic stipulated that only wizards above the age of seventeen were allowed to learn Apparition. If you were discovered, there might be trouble."
Learning Apparition was a dangerous process; one mistake could leave your arm or even your head behind.
Seeing part of your body appear elsewhere was not a pleasant experience, and it was an even greater challenge to a wizard's mental resilience.
Historically, there had been young wizards who, while learning Apparition, saw their headless bodies and directly broke down, becoming babbling idiots.
And this was not an isolated case.
To prevent such situations from occurring frequently, a strict rule was established that wizards under the age of seventeen were not allowed to learn Apparition.
However, at Hogwarts, sixth-year students could learn it, presumably to accommodate older students.
In this regard, the Ministry of Magic turned a blind eye, as sixteen and seventeen weren't that different in age, and with professors supervising, there wouldn't be any accidents.
But Kyle was only fourteen, strictly speaking, even thirteen, so he definitely couldn't learn it.
"It's okay, I have this..." Kyle extended his hand, showing the ring on his finger.
"If anyone finds out, I can just say it's the effect of a magical tool."
Two weeks ago, Diana had returned the ring to him, and the number of Apparitions had been reset to three.
"In that case... Alright, then." Chris hesitated for a moment before finally nodding.
As Kyle had been very reliable these past few years, Chris rarely opposed his requests, even if they were a bit excessive.
Of course, if it was something particularly excessive, like wanting to learn the Killing Curse, it wouldn't be allowed.
However, Apparition was more of a test of mental resilience, and Chris trusted Kyle in this regard.
Once the decision was made, Chris didn't hesitate. That afternoon, he took advantage of a trip to Romania to apply for a week's paid leave from the department. Then, he brought Kyle to an empty space on a northern mountain.
This place was rarely visited, and they wouldn't be seen by the villagers below, making it ideal for practicing Apparition.
Several owls flew over and perched on the surrounding trees.
"Before you start learning, there are two things you must remember."
Chris spoke seriously: "When performing Apparition, you must have a clear and detailed memory of your intended destination. The more detailed, the better. This will help you avoid appearing in mid-air or getting stuck in a tree."
"Also, unless you can make Apparition as easy as eating and drinking, never use this ability in combat... Your enemies won't help you reattach your separated head.
If necessary, you can use the ring; it won't put you at risk of dismemberment.
Kyle nodded.
"Next, we'll cover the basics—target, determination, and composure..."
"Setting a target, I've already mentioned that earlier. Let's focus on the most crucial part... Make up your mind and let the thought of where you want to go fill your entire body."
"If you hesitate or have any doubts during this process, the magic will be disrupted, causing a part of your body to remain in its original place."
"Finally, stabilize your mind and move with composure... If you feel nervous, you can spin in place; it might help you relax."
Chris explained meticulously and only agreed to let Kyle try after demonstrating three times.
He casually threw a stone.
"That's your target. Remember what I just said..."
Kyle took out his wand, took a deep breath, and gradually, his eyes focused solely on the stone...
Perhaps due to his previous experiences with Apparition, Kyle naturally entered that familiar state, as if he had been thrown into a tumble dryer.
"Bang!"
Accompanied by a dizzying sensation and a loud blast, he successfully appeared five meters away.
Kyle quickly checked his body.
Perfect, his arms and legs were intact, and his head was still in its original place...
"Although there's a slight flaw, it's already impressive for your first attempt."

Chris smiled and walked over to where Kyle had been standing. He picked up a few strands of hair from the ground.
"I think you must have been distracted by the compression sensation when it appeared. This is the most challenging part."
"Try again."
Chris threw another stone, "To master Apparition, you must try to get used to and ignore the compression sensation caused by the spatial shift."
Kyle's expression became serious.
Now, in addition to wanting to learn Apparition, he had another reason to take it seriously—to keep his hair.
In the case of regular body separation, the magic from Apparition would remain at the wound, connecting the body, and as long as it was reconnected promptly, there wouldn't be any issues.
However, with hair, it would be challenging to determine where the separation occurred, and every strand lost would be one less.
During the second Apparition attempt, Kyle still experienced some distraction, and this time it was more severe, leaving half a finger behind.
Although it didn't hurt, the sensation was indeed a bit chilling.
Chris quickly reconnected it and applied some white jasmine perfume to the junction to accelerate healing.
"I feel like you're even more nervous than before..."
"It's nothing," Kyle forced a laugh twice without speaking.
He couldn't possibly say that he was nervous about going bald, so he changed the subject, "Let's try again..."
And so, the afternoon was spent in continuous practice.
It was either the seventh or eighth attempt when Kyle successfully got used to the sensation and didn't leave anything behind.
Chris was astonished. When he and Diana were in school, it took them five or six classes and dozens of failures to barely get accustomed to the effects of Apparition.
This was an excellent result, and he had always assumed Kyle would be similar to them.
However, Kyle didn't think much of it.
To be honest... Anyone, regardless of who they are, after experiencing the Phoenix's rough mode of transportation, would find it much easier to adapt to the effects of regular Apparition.
