Chapter 338: You Will Regret This!
Chapter 338: You Will Regret This!
Mary Geoia.
Pangu Palace.
The Corridor of Power.
Inside the spacious hall, four of the five elders sat, while one stood with his hands in his pockets and his back straight.
Those seated struck various poses, as if they were a quintet striking a group photo pose.
Before them stood Akainu, his arms crossed, his hat pulled low, and a cigar clenched between his teeth.
"Your Excellencies, the Five Elders! And Admiral Sakarski!"
A Navy Rear Admiral entered, kneeling on one knee and reporting, "We've received news from the surveillance ship. The battle between Big Mom and the Heavenly Disaster has concluded! Both sides sustained minor damage, and Big Mom retreated first. The Heavenly Disaster Pirates are victorious!"
As he finished speaking, he felt the temperature in the room rising, causing him to break into a sweat.
"Quiet, Sakarski,"
Satan, with his hands crossed under his chin, glanced at Sakarski and said, "Charlotte Linlin is a clever one. She wouldn't fight to the death for an island she doesn't care about against a formidable opponent like the Heavenly Disaster, especially outside her true territory."
"Indeed."
Shepherd X. Pete mused, "Pirates of their caliber wouldn't engage in a brutal battle so easily. They're waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike when their opponents are at their weakest."
"More importantly..."
Nas Shou Lang, holding his sword, pointed a finger at his bald head and said, "The Heavenly Disaster has reached a level where they cannot be taken lightly, even by the Yonko."
"The decision was sound."
Mazzie continued, "To engage in war with such an opponent, we must give our consent. Otherwise, we would only be wasting our military strength."
Wochuli nodded, "Yes, let them create chaos in the New World for now. We'll deal with them when the opportunity presents itself."
Akainu's temper flared as he listened, the veins on his temples becoming more pronounced. He lifted his head, letting the cigar smoke curl around his face, and said, "Wouldn't it be better to deal with them now? Why let the Heavenly Disaster grow stronger? It hasn't even been a year since we took down Whitebeard, and now we have to deal with a new Emperor of the Sea?! Why are we doing this? Taking care of them now would be the best course of action!"
"Also, I've seen the intelligence from the surveillance ship. Why was CP9 there? Do you have some deal with the Heavenly Disaster? Answer me! If the World Government is making deals with pirates, where does that leave my reputation?!"
Akainu could not contain his anger.
That Heavenly Disaster had destroyed Marinford, the very symbol of justice!
This lawless pirate posed a greater threat than his predecessor, Bondi Walde.
Bondi Walde was foolish, but the Heavenly Disaster was certainly not.
"Mind your tone, Sakarski!"
Satan said, "My reputation? The Navy is merely an external arm of the World Government, and we are the ones in control. CP9 is there because of the Judicial Island incident; the Heavenly Disaster recruited them, but we have since brought CP9 back under our control. With our agents in their midst, we can keep a close eye on the Heavenly Disaster's movements."
"Leave the Heavenly Disaster's movements to the CP agents," Nas Shou Lang added.
"CP?"
Akainu blew out a puff of smoke, "Have you been overruled by the Celestial Dragons, Five Elders?"
"Shut up, Sakarski, and mind your own business! You share the blame for Kuzan's departure from the Navy despite his immense strength!" Wochuli rebuked.
"Kuzan..."
Akainu's eyes twitched, "He's no longer part of the Navy. What he does is none of my concern!"
"Then focus on your own duties and take care of the World Recruitment matter!" Wochuli snapped.
Akainu glared at the Five Elders, clenching his teeth, before turning and striding toward the door.
"You will regret this!"
"We are the Five Elders, Sakarski!"
The heavy door slammed shut.
The five elders exchanged a glance, falling into a brief silence.
"He knows nothing. Balance is the most important thing," Mazzie said calmly.
"Indeed, the Navy Marshal only needs to manage the Navy. We, on the other hand, have much more to consider," Nas Shou Lang added.
Shepherd X. Pete pondered for a moment before speaking, "The disappearance of Columbus and Thias has cost us more than half of our weapons and warships in the New World. Now, we can only rely on Donquixote Doflamingo's connections for our military purchases."
Just as Sakarski didn't care about what the World Government thought and was unconcerned about the intelligence he could provide to them.
The Five Elders, likewise, didn't care what Sakarski wanted to do with CP9.
Intelligence?
CP0 didn't have access to much intelligence, and it wouldn't touch the true core anyway.
The World Government's true core had always been that one person.
As for the rest of the intelligence, what use could Sakarski make of it?
He was a pirate, and he wouldn't know how to truly utilize the value of that intelligence.
Moreover, from the reports they'd received, that Heavenly Disaster Pirate rarely paid attention to this aspect. The only thing he focused on regarding the Navy was through CP organizations, which were two separate systems, and intelligence was not easily obtainable there.
So, it was with their tacit approval that CP9 remained within the Heavenly Disaster Pirate crew.
Whether it was a mutual understanding or because neither side feared the other, it was hard to say.
But regardless of whether Sakarski feared them or not, the Five Elders were unafraid.
Compared to the risk of leaking intelligence, they valued the movements of the Heavenly Disaster Pirates and the military supplies and resources from their land.
The weapons produced there were of quality no less superior than those from the Country of Wano.
As for the Country of Wano itself, what truly mattered were the armaments made from sea stone, while ordinary weapons were better sourced from Ohara, the land of the scientist, Vegapunk.
Even the warships they produced were of excellent quality.
Donquixote Doflamingo's connections included those of the World Government.
Especially after Sakarski had destroyed Columbus, the land of iron ore, and Thias, the manufacturer of warships, their influence in the New World had drastically diminished, and now they had no choice but to rely on Donquixote Doflamingo's channels to procure supplies.
In fact, two-thirds of the military supplies obtained by Donquixote Doflamingo were consumed by them.
Aside from armaments, the food and other resources produced there were also of great quality, and these resources could be provided to other affiliated nations through the World Government, or even used to control some starving non-affiliated nations.
On the high seas, sometimes these resources were even more important than armaments.
Because while armaments could be purchased elsewhere, many places were self-sufficient when it came to food.
The lack of circulation between islands and the disparity in information also allowed the World Government to utilize these resources to bring about greater stability in that vast ocean.
Having CP9 within the Heavenly Disaster Pirates was beneficial to the World Government, as compared to secretly planted spies, the agents there had access to far more valuable information.
Who knew? Perhaps they would even find an opportunity to replicate the failed attempt to take down Bonding Walde and bring the developed Ohara under their control.
As for making deals with pirates...
Well, they certainly didn't care about that.
"Indeed, there's no need to get worked up over a matter of pride. What we need is balance," Satan said in a low voice.
For them, the world remained the same, and it was crucial to ensure the World Government had sufficient armaments to maintain that balance.
It was all a transaction, no matter who it was with.
Pirates were no exception.
