Chapter 338: The Golden Galleon Award
Chapter 338: The Golden Galleon Award
"Oh... Is Mr. Scamander planning to take you to the Romanian Dragon Reserve?"
Chris looked at the letter the owl had just delivered, and at Kyle, who was eagerly awaiting an answer. He stroked his chin thoughtfully.
"Do you agree to let me go?" Kyle asked.
"If that's what you want, we have no reason to stop you," Chris smiled. "In fact, I also received an invitation."
He retrieved a letter from the cabinet in the living room.
"I knew it..." Kyle said subconsciously.
On the way back, he had wondered if Chris might have also received an invitation.
As a student of Scamander and the Deputy Head of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures in the Ministry of Magic, Chris had gained some recognition in the magical creature community.
Especially after the incident two years ago, when he and Newt returned the smuggled magical creatures to their original habitats, they gained a significant boost in reputation.
It wasn't surprising that he received an invitation this time.
"So, am I going with you?"
"No, you'll be going with Mr. Scamander. I might be a little late," Chris shook his head. "Fudge seems to attach great importance to this matter. He wants me to represent the Ministry of Magic in Romania.
So I'll have to depart from the Ministry and complete a series of tedious handover procedures with the Romanian Ministry of Magic before heading to the Reserve."
"That's indeed Fudge's style," Diana said as she sat down next to Chris.
"He probably thinks this will enhance his prestige."
"Perhaps," Chris took the hot chocolate she handed him and said nonchalantly, "Although he might not be too pleased to hear this, the name of Bartemius Crouch usually carries more weight with foreign Ministries of Magic."
Diana poured another cup of hot chocolate for Kyle.
"I don't oppose you going to Romania to broaden your horizons," she said, "but some necessary preparations are still needed... Your ring only has a few uses left."
"Two," Kyle raised his hand.
During last year's vacation, he had used it once to avoid Norbert's overenthusiastic attention by Apparating.
"Give it to me," Diana said, "it's better to be safe than sorry."
"Okay," Kyle nodded and handed the ring to Diana.
"Can you Apparate within the Reserve?"
"Yes," Chris explained, "the Romanian Dragon Reserve is vast, and completely prohibiting Apparition there is almost an impossible task."
Moreover, there was no need for it. Dragon keepers had special methods to monitor magical reactions within the area, and they only needed to focus on the dragon eggs and young dragons.
As for adult dragons, few dared to target them, let alone steal them silently and without a trace."
Kyle thought about it and realized that this was indeed the case.
For so long, the Romanian Dragon Reserve had never lost a dragon. Even the Australian Ocularis Dragon two years ago was brought in by Auren's group from elsewhere.
He had also heard that the selection of dragon keepers was very strict, almost on par with the selection of Aurors, except for the lack of certification requirements.
He wasn't sure if this was true.
After finishing the hot chocolate in his cup, Kyle returned to his room upstairs.
He didn't know how long he would be staying in Romania, but he had to complete his assignments and write a paper for Transfiguration Today within a month.
The assignments were manageable, and Kyle finished them in just a few days, but the professional paper was a different story.
Professor McGonagall had given him two months for a reason.
This type of academic paper required meticulous logic. Every viewpoint he proposed needed to be supported by extensive theoretical foundations and verified from multiple perspectives.
He would then have to conduct multiple experiments, meticulously record the entire process, and analyze the final results.
Although the Most Promising Newcomer Award is more lenient towards Hogwarts students, Kyle still bought over a dozen books on Transfiguration and spent nearly two weeks writing his thesis.
When Kyle ventured outside again, July was almost over.
Meanwhile, a significant event occurred next door at the Weasley household.
"Kyle, come and see this!"
"Haha! I bet you won't believe it!"
Fred and George rushed over, thrusting a copy of The Daily Prophet in Kyle's face.
"Congratulations to Arthur Weasley for winning the annual Golden Galleon Award from The Daily Prophet..."
Below was a photo of Mr. Weasley and the editor of The Daily Prophet, Barnabas Cuffe, both smiling happily.
"How many Galleons..." Kyle asked.
"Seven hundred," Fred exclaimed, dancing with excitement, "It was usually five hundred, but they increased the prize money because they thought the number of participants was too low."
"We participated before too," George said, "but we only won the Guessing Prize."
"A total of twelve Knuts..."

"Last time we guessed the new Minister of Magic, we got it all wrong..."
It was evident that Fred and George were genuinely happy. After their house-elf, Dobby, was taken away by Kyle, this was the first time they were this excited.
Or perhaps everyone in the Weasley family was happy.
When Kyle followed them to the Burrow, he even saw Percy, who, at this time, would usually be in his room instead of chatting with Ginny here.
"Oh, almost forgot the important thing..." Fred slapped his head upon returning to the Burrow.
"Kyle, Mom plans to use this money to visit Bill. Why don't you come with us?"
"Yes, dear," Mrs. Weasley also came over, "With seven hundred Galleons, this trip will be amazing."
"I'm already looking forward to it..." Ginny cupped her face, "Do you think Bill will take us inside the pyramids?"
"Of course..."
Everyone chatted excitedly.
"Sorry, Mrs. Weasley," Kyle sighed, "In August, I'm going to the Romanian Dragon Reserve with Mr. Scamander, so I might not be able to travel with you."
"Romania?" Ginny asked in surprise, "Are you going to visit Charlie?"
Their brother, Charlie Weasley, went to Romania to study dragons after graduating.
"You could say that," Kyle laughed, "I even plan to have him be my guide."
"Mom, why don't we go to Romania too?" George suddenly suggested, "I've never seen a dragon before."
His idea was met with everyone's agreement.
They were curious about both dragons and pyramids, so it didn't matter where they went.
"If you want to see dragons, we can go next year, but let's stick to the original plan of visiting Bill this year."
At this moment, Mr. Weasley came down from upstairs, "There's a big event happening in Romania soon, and the Dragon Reserve is no longer open to the public. Even if we go, we won't be able to see Charlie."
"But why can Kyle..."
"Oh?" Mr. Weasley wasn't surprised and asked naturally, "Are you going with your father or Mr. Scamander?"
"Mr. Scamander," Kyle replied with a smile.
"I thought so... They would definitely invite him."
Fred became even more curious, looking at Kyle and Mr. Weasley with dissatisfaction.
"Please, can someone explain to us? Why can Kyle see Charlie, but we can't..."
"Also, what's the big event in Romania, and can't we change our plans?"
