Chapter 338: Dragon Egg
Chapter 338: Dragon Egg
After informing everyone, Bagman had wanted to keep Harry back for a few words. However, Harry found an excuse and left with Liam.
"I really hope this Tournament ends soon. Honestly, it doesn't seem important to me at all right now. I have other important things to do and don't want to waste any more time on this", Harry complained on the way, feeling comfortable enough to share his inner thoughts with Liam, who shared his secret.
"Don't think like that", Liam said. "From what I know, that person has been spreading fear and chaos, hoping to make the entire world a place of despair. The best way to fight back is to live each day to the fullest. So you should try to relax and not let yourself become what the enemy wants you to be."
Liam had noticed that Harry had been looking troubled lately, and a few times it seemed like he wanted to talk to him or Hermione but ultimately didn't. Liam knew that Harry was still dealing with the psychological shadow cast by seeing Voldemort, and Dumbledore, being so much older and with a generational gap, couldn't fully alleviate Harry's concerns. So he took this opportunity to offer some guidance.
The conversation seemed to have some effect, especially with the help of Liam's mental soothing magic. Harry appeared more relaxed and less tense than before.
"Liam, what did you think of the Tournament grounds today?" Hermione called out to Liam just as they reached the entrance to the Gryffindor Common Room. Harry, noticing this, tactfully excused himself and entered the Common Room.
"A Maze, a dungeon, some magical creatures, and a few spells. It's a fairly standard Tournament setup, and the biggest challenge might be the Champions from other schools. I think Dumbledore will thoroughly check all safety measures, so the final event shouldn't be too dangerous", Liam said to Hermione.
"That's a relief", Hermione nodded. "The last attack was quite shocking, and I really hope nothing like that happens again during this Tournament."
"Someone as experienced as Professor Dumbledore, who is over 100 years old, won't make the same mistake twice. So you can rest easy", Liam reassured her. "By the way, I'll be giving you a gift in the Room of Requirement this Saturday."
"You don't need to go to so much trouble", Hermione said, feeling that she had already received a lot of help from Liam and naturally declined his offer.
"This gift is about improving your strength, as the war is coming. In this situation, any increase in your power will be beneficial to everyone", Liam explained. Hermione decided to accept the gift, understanding that it represented more than just a gift; it was a responsibility.
When Saturday arrived, they hurried to the Room of Requirement after breakfast. Upon entering, they found the room transformed into a laboratory, with a white-clothed table in the center, filled with various instruments.
"Alright, have a seat", Liam said, gesturing for Hermione to sit down. He then pulled out three coconut-sized, scale-covered ellipsoids from his dimensional bag.
"What are these?" Hermione couldn't immediately identify them, as they didn't match anything she had read about in her books.
"Dragon Eggs", Liam replied simply. "We found a book on Nymph's Transfiguration in the world of the Beautiful Beast, which contains several methods to improve oneself using natural power. I discussed this book with experts from other worlds and improved these methods. Today, we're going to use one of these methods."
In the world of Ice and Fire, Liam had obtained five living Dragon Eggs, but he also managed to acquire three others that had lost all their vitality. Today, he planned to use these Dragon Eggs as the raw material to enhance Hermione.
As for why he wasn't using this method to enhance himself, it was because he had already undergone numerous enhancements, especially in alchemical power, which made this method less effective for him.
“This is too expensive—” Hermione looked a bit uneasy.
“I’ve prepared everything. If we don’t proceed now, it would be a waste,” Liam bluntly interrupted her.
“How is this different from Hagrid’s Dragon Egg in our first year?” Hermione, seeing that the situation couldn’t be changed, decided to shift the topic and pointed at the Dragon Egg. “And this thing looks like a stone.”
“After all, the worlds are different, and so are the dragons,” Liam explained. “That world went through a long period without magic, and only recently has the power of magic returned. The deterioration of the magic environment caused some Dragon Eggs to lose their vitality, making them suitable as reinforcement materials for you.”
“Does it have to be a dead Dragon Egg?”
“Certainly. If it’s alive or has been killed, you would need a lot of power to assimilate another soul, which could leave hidden dangers. Additionally, this would go against the essence of this magic, which is to be in harmony with nature, and the complexity of the magic operation would be much greater,” Liam said.
“Alright, sit in the center of the Alchemy Array. Once you’re in, don’t move or think about anything; just follow my instructions,” Liam called out to Hermione after completing the preparations. “If anything goes wrong during the ritual, tell me immediately.”
Hermione nodded and knelt in the center of the Magic Array as instructed. Liam placed the three Dragon Eggs at the three corners of the Magic Array’s hexagram and then poured Heavenly Silver from a bottle into the Magic Array.
As soon as the Heavenly Silver touched the Magic Array, it flowed along the intricate patterns, eventually enveloping the Dragon Eggs. After using three ounces of Heavenly Silver, the Magic Array was fully formed.
The liquid silver, like blood circulating through veins, connected every part of the Magic Array, and a blood-red glow slowly emerged. The three Dragon Eggs and Hermione began to emit a pulsing light, like a steady breathing rhythm, making the entire Magic Array seem alive.
After a few minutes of the Magic Array’s operation, the frequency of the light pulses from Hermione and the Dragon Eggs gradually synchronized. Seeing this, Liam took out a writing brush made from his own hair, dipped it in Dragon Blood, and began drawing runes on the Dragon Eggs.
During this process, Hermione remained still, her slight sweat indicating her inner tension. However, her trust in Liam kept her in the Magic Array.
Once the runes were completed, Liam began chanting a spell to activate the ritual array, revealing the laws contained within the Dragon Eggs. Although Liam appeared relaxed, this was because the main power for the ritual array came from the Heavenly Silver and Dragon Blood. He only needed to expend a minimal amount of magic power to guide the process.
If he were to rely solely on his own power, driving a similar Magic Array would require the strength of wizards like Dumbledore and Voldemort or Nicolas Flamel. Thus, it was crucial to seek resources from other worlds, as resources could indeed be converted into power.
The resilient Dragon Hide, powerful ancient magical defenses, and the invincible Dragon Breath—all contained countless laws, forming various combinations that granted dragons their formidable strength.
Tiny runes floated up from the Dragon Eggs, forming different patterns in the air. Each time a rune left a Dragon Egg, the egg would dim a little. When the last rune departed, the three Dragon Eggs simultaneously turned to ash.
Liam chose three Dragon Eggs because these eggs had already lost their vitality, and the laws they contained had become incomplete over time. To ensure he could extract the necessary elements, Liam decided to use all the dead Dragon Eggs he had.
