Chapter 337: The Invitation from Romania
Chapter 337: The Invitation from Romania
As Kyle and Newt returned to the room, they encountered a refreshed Dobby, who had just shed his oversized and worn-out pillowcase. Tina had tailored Newt's old jacket, creating a new set of clothes for Dobby.
Dobby immediately looked more energetic in his new attire, appearing more like a proper assistant. However, his expression seemed anxious, likely due to his recent freedom as a house-elf, causing an instinctive resistance to new clothing.
But with Tina's presence, this issue was quickly resolved. She was currently gesturing with a sleeve, using Newt's large jacket to create at least three different outfits for the house-elf.
This could be considered a form of employee welfare, although there were still some areas that needed improvement.
Kyle approached Dobby, pulling out two long silver needles from the sleeves and collar, and placing them in a box on the table. Inside the box were scissors, rulers, and balls of yarn.
"Oh, I was just looking for these..." Tina exclaimed with delight.
"Why not use magic?" Kyle asked curiously, "It would be more convenient."
"When I was younger, I enjoyed using magic," Tina explained, "But now I find this method more enjoyable, like baking bread and cookies. It's a completely different feeling from magic. More importantly, it helps pass the time."
Kyle nodded in understanding.
Perhaps older wizards preferred handmade items; Tina and Dumbledore were both like that.
Dumbledore also knitted woolen socks and scarves without using any magic, relying solely on his hands.
...
Kyle didn't stay long at Newt's house. Two days later, he prepared to return.
He couldn't stay away for long, especially since Newt had been keeping him busy ever since discovering his unique ability last year.
Although Kyle wasn't needed to assist with childbirth this year, Newt had entrusted him with the listless creatures in the box.
Within two days, Kyle once again became a companionship assistant, comforting and counseling over a dozen magical creatures.
This included, but was not limited to, a dejected unicorn bison after losing a fight, a melancholy Dotley goat due to failed courtship, an invisible beast that had been stepped on by a venomous unicorn and couldn't free itself from the ground...
Additionally, the previous afternoon, Kyle spent four hours chatting with an Occamy that had just laid eggs.
The conversation was supposed to last only an hour, but for some reason, the Occamy became talkative after recovering, clinging to Kyle until Newt called him for dinner in the evening.
So, on the third day, after finishing his breakfast, Kyle made an excuse to return and write his Transfiguration Today essay, preparing to leave.
As for the counseling tasks, they could be left to Newt, who was equally capable.
However, just before leaving, Newt suddenly called out to him, "There's something I think you might find interesting."
"What?" Kyle asked warily, "Is it another invisible beast stuck in the ground?"
"That was just an accident. Usually, invisible beasts are quite vigilant."
Newt smiled and said, "Three months ago, I received a letter from the Romanian Dragon Reserve. They invited me to attend a grand event in August."
"If you're interested, I can take you with me.
"Isn't this a little too dangerous?" Tina put down her scissors and frowned, "Kyle is only in his third year."
"He'll be in his fourth year soon," Newt said, "and after his birthday, he'll meet the minimum age requirement set by the Reserve."
A grand event? And age restrictions?
Kyle's curiosity was piqued.
Newt didn't keep him in suspense and quickly explained.
"Joyle mentioned in his letter that the most powerful Ukrainian Ironbelly in the Dragon Reserve is getting old. As its strength wanes, the other dragons are becoming increasingly agitated, especially the Hungarian Firebolts. They've been frequently encroaching on other dragons' territories..."
As Newt explained, Kyle quickly understood what he meant by the grand event.
In simple terms, the "boss" of the Romanian Dragon Reserve was about to retire, and the dragons were about to hold a leadership election.
Dragons are inherently temperamental creatures, and even a glance between two dragons in other places could lead to a fight.
And in the Dragon Reserve, where several dozen dragons lived together, it was a bit crowded, so they often used force to claim more comfortable and food-rich territories.
The Reserve staff couldn't control or manage this situation; they couldn't make the dragons as obedient as Kelpies. They had to let nature take its course.
However, this situation didn't occur frequently.
According to Newt, since the establishment of the Reserve, this had only happened once. The Ukrainian Ironbelly had defeated all the dragons and occupied the highest cliff, a dominance that continued to the present.

This year was the second time.
Kyle's eyes lit up.
If that was the case, it was indeed a grand event, and it would be difficult to encounter such an opportunity again after missing this one.
"I'm fine with it," Kyle said immediately, "but will the Reserve allow me to go?"
"You can temporarily be my assistant," Newt smiled.
"But this way, Dobby might not be able to come."
Upon hearing Newt's words, Dobby, who was clearing the table, almost split his ears with his grin.
Can't go? That's great.
While at the Malfoy's, he had heard them mention that place, and the Malfoy family believed that the existence of the Dragon Reserve severely damaged their interests and reduced their gold earnings.
A place where dozens of dragons lived... It was terrifying.
Just thinking about it made Dobby's legs tremble.
If he went there, he might not even be able to walk, and he would only cause trouble for Mr. Scamander.
He didn't want Mr. Scamander to think he was an incompetent assistant.
Thankfully, this wouldn't happen.
Dobby looked gratefully at Kyle, who had saved him twice. In that moment, Kyle seemed even greater than Harry Potter in Dobby's heart.
Unfortunately, he couldn't work for Kyle's family; otherwise, he would have scrubbed the floors ten times a day...
"But..." Tina was still worried.
"It's fine," Newt reassured her, "we'll mostly be treating injured dragons, and as long as we stay away from the Reserve's core, there won't be any danger.
I'll also write to Chris and Diana to get their approval before taking Kyle."
