Chapter 337: The Abyssal Cottage's Legacy
Chapter 337: The Abyssal Cottage's Legacy
The Abyssal Cottage's attacks weren't limited to the Viper Academy; two other major forces in the vicinity also suffered the same fate.
When confronted by the three powers, the Abyssal Cottage remained silent, offering no response.
In response,
The three forces decided to join forces to eradicate the Abyssal Creatures.
Even if they couldn't annihilate the Abyssal Cottage, they aimed to teach them a lesson and make them understand the consequences of offending such powerful entities.
The three forces were the Viper Academy, the Demon Hunter Corps, and the Black Wizard Tower.
Unlike the Viper Academy, which focused on teaching Witchcraft and had various schools of thought, the other two forces were not traditional Wizard organizations.
The Demon Hunter Corps was akin to a mercenary group, taking on tasks for money, primarily specializing in Bloodline Witchcraft and Knight skills.
The Black Wizard Tower, on the other hand, was a gathering place for Dark Wizards.
Viel Town.
Dolorin, ever obedient, followed Linen closely, holding a letter in her hand as she spoke.
"For this mission, the Academy has dispatched two Tier 2 Wizards: Gear Jack and Shadow Witch Gloria."
"In addition to the Academy Wizards, they've also recruited many Wizard Apprentices and Wild Wizards to join the cause."
"Oh?" Linen raised an eyebrow,
"Are they willing?"
"The Academy is offering a generous reward," Dolorin replied.
"Not only can you exchange the corpses of Abyssal Creatures for the Academy's potions, but you can also earn points. With enough points, you can even exchange them for potions that aid in Wizard advancement, as well as Witchcraft and Heritage Artifacts."
"Tsk tsk..." Linen clicked his tongue and shook his head,
"They're even offering Heritage Artifacts. The Academy is really going all out this time. It seems the task isn't as simple as it appears."
"Yes."
Dolorin nodded,
"I investigated our interactions with the Abyssal Cottage over the past century or so, and there have been three large-scale operations similar to this one. Each time, we suffered heavy losses, and once, it even resulted in the death of a Tier 2 Wizard."
"You..."
"Be careful!"
"Of course," Linen rubbed his forehead,
"So we must prepare thoroughly. As the saying goes, a sharp blade makes for efficient woodcutting."
"What does that mean?"
"It's an old proverb."
"Isn't your hometown right here?"
"I didn't say it was my hometown."
As they spoke, the two entered the shop.
"Aunt Mandy!"
"Oh!" Aunt Mandy, who was arranging potions, turned at the sound of her name. Her eyes lit up as she recognized the visitor,
"Look who it is!"
"My dear brother Linen, you've become quite famous in the Academy lately, a Full Wizard at just sixteen."
"You flatter me," Linen waved his hand dismissively,
"I'm here to buy a few things."
Previously, he couldn't discern her cultivation level, but now, as a Full Wizard, he could see through her strength at a glance.
A Wizard,
But unlike a typical Wizard who advanced through normal means, she possessed the strength of a Wizard without their longevity.
She must have taken a shortcut.
Taking a shortcut was a skill in itself, and arguably more challenging. It at least indicated that her background was extraordinary.
"Buying something?" Aunt Mandy leaned forward, resting her chin on her hands, her beautiful eyes signaling to Linen,
"What caught your eye?"
Her exaggerated figure, combined with her loose-fitting clothes, made this posture particularly revealing from Linen's vantage point.
"Potion,"
Linen's gaze swept over her, his expression unchanged, as he spoke in a low voice,
"Aunt Mandy, you know I have some talent in Potion Crafting. With this upcoming trip to the Abyssal Cottage, if I can craft a few supporting potions, I might be able to stay in the rear instead of the front lines."
"Hmm..." Aunt Mandy seemed deep in thought,
"The Bone Regeneration Potion for healing physical injuries, the Pure Element Potion for restoring Psychic Power, and the Essence Cream for replenishing stamina."
"I have the materials needed for these three potions, but the recipes..."
"I have them," Linen spoke up,
"Mentor Kito left me quite a few resources."
"That's good then." Aunt Mandy smiled.
"Also," Linen added,
"Please give me an Advanced Restoration Water as well.
"Restoration Water?" Mandy's smile deepened.
"Will one be enough?"
Wizard Artifacts, like Wizard Robes and Staffs, often had special spells cast on them to prevent others from claiming them. To make use of such items, one needed Restoration Water to soak and remove the markings.
After Kito's death, Linen had possession of all his belongings, but they remained unusable.
To use them, he needed Restoration Water.
Linen thought for a moment and nodded.
"Then I'll take two."
"Alright," Mandy smiled. "Two portions of Restoration Water, and at least twenty of each of the three potions. It won't be cheap."
"..." Linen hesitated before asking, "Do you accept pledges or loans here?"
"Yes," Mandy nodded. "But... I recall you haven't received the Academy's recognition yet, so you can't dispose of Wizard Kito's inheritance."
"That's not a problem," Linen assured her. "I am the sole disciple of my mentor. By participating in this mission, I'll earn the Academy's recognition. Even if I encounter trouble during the mission, those items will still belong to me."
"I can write a pledge letter and offer Wizard Kito's Wizard Tower as collateral."
Wizard Tower? Mandy's eyes lit up, and she licked her lips.
Kito's Wizard Tower, passed down from his mentor, was a top-tier First-Rank existence, inherited generation after generation.
If she could acquire it, it would be a massive fortune in Magic Crystals!
"Great!"
Mandy took a deep breath and nodded firmly. "However, we'll need to go to the Academy for a fair assessment. Whether you encounter trouble or not, we will have priority in handling the future disposal of the Wizard Tower."
"No problem," Linen agreed without objection. Then, he added, "And I'll take a portion of Demonic Purification Potion, Tier 2."
Hmm? Mandy raised an eyebrow and glanced at Dorothea, who stood behind Linen with clenched fists and hopeful eyes. The potion could lift the curse from her.
Of course,
This potion was also incredibly expensive, and even Wizards rarely spared the cost. Kito himself had not purchased it.
Flamefire Robe—An Advanced First-Rank Wizard Robe that increases a fire-attuned Wizard's affinity with flames.
It is engraved with two First-Rank Spells: Lava Storm and Flame Shield.
Phoenix Feather Staff—An Advanced First-Rank Staff crafted from the tail feathers of a Tier 2 Phoenix. It enhances the user's affinity with fire and increases the power of fire-based spells.
It also bears a First-Rank Spell: Scarlet Flame!
Thousand Birds Emerald—A First-Rank Heritage Artifact that combines water and fire elements, housing the spirit of a firebird.
This was Kito's most powerful item. Once activated, it releases hundreds of fist-sized firebirds, capable of destroying an entire village, rivaling the power of a Tier 2 Wizard's spells.
There was also a space bracelet for storing items, dozens of spellbooks, and a complete laboratory...
"External items are just that—external. One's cultivation is the true foundation."
Linen put down the items and fell into deep thought.
Before taking action, he needed to create a First-Rank Spell to face potential dangers.
Kito's Great Flame Bloodline heritage was of a relatively high tier, at least Fourth Rank, but it was incomplete. Fortunately, it was more than sufficient for a First-Rank Wizard.
In the end,
He chose the Shape-Shifting Magic.
"Now that I have Kito's Flame Scale Serpent Bloodline, mastering this spell will grant me the power of a late First-Rank Wizard, enough to handle most situations."
"Hmm..."
"I also need to cultivate the Flamefire Eye Spell. This spell pairs perfectly with the Flame Scale Serpent Bloodline."
Unbeknownst to them, half a month had passed, and the Academy urged Linen to take action.
Dorothea, now free from the curse, stayed at the Academy to watch over the items while Linen prepared for his journey.
